Chapter 42
“W-wow…” Tank was astonished.
A luxurious residence on a vast property, like a high-end inn: party rooms doubling as offices, guild party accommodations, training grounds…
“Y-yeah, they really are rich… this is surprising,” said the Saint.
“Hm. I want to live here…” said the Magical Girl.
“Rich, huh… kind of obnoxious,” muttered the Hero.
Even though he’s ranked #1 among Heroes and Explorers and is still a minor, he’s already earning quite a lot. But the scale here was on a completely different level, as the party members could clearly feel.
Moreover, being a minor, a portion of his earnings were taken, plus he had to pay huge taxes, and various other ways were used to pinch him. The fees for quests and buying magic stones were sent to his parents, and he would receive pocket money from them. That’s why the minor party members had a relatively commoner-like perspective.
“Knock, knock. Excuse me. The Hero Party has arrived. I’ll guide them to the reception room,” said a maid with a slight chuunibyou flair.
“Ah…” Honestly, a bit of a hassle. But, I thought, let’s go! Full plate armor and all, I entered the room.
(By the way, in Japan, I don’t want anyone to see my face—so if I mess up, I can escape or deny everything back home. Naturally, even in the bath or my private room, the armor takes my intention and shrouds my face in pitch-black mist.)
Come to think of it, it feels like the armor has a will of its own… oh well! We’ve known each other since childhood.
I entered the reception room silently where the Hero Party was waiting and plopped down arrogantly.
“Welcome.”
Honestly, I just want them to leave soon.
“Ah, sorry for the delayed thanks, Black Knight. I am the Saint of the Hero Party. Thank you for saving everyone that time.”
“Same here, Tank. Thanks, Black Knight.”
“Thanks, Black Knight,” said the Magical Girl.
The Hero, however, didn’t bow or say thanks.
“I have received your gratitude. That is enough,” said the Black Knight, already wishing they’d leave.
The Saint noticed the Hero’s bad attitude.
“Ah, I’m sorry, Black Knight! Um, he’s a Hero. We’re all childhood friends in a student party, but he seems to misunderstand… or rather, misjudge you a bit.”
“That’s correct. I am not a citizen of this country. It’s only natural to be cautious,” I said. I didn’t care and just wanted them to leave quickly.
“Hahaha! Look at that!!! He admits he’s suspicious! Even that fight against the demon—you would have won without me! What exactly did you do, Black Knight?”
The Hero had fainted, so he didn’t remember being helped. He saw the YouTube live stream replies but suspected editing or fabrication.
“…,” I stopped listening entirely, thinking of leaving soon.
“He admitted it… he admitted it after all!! I was right… wahahahaha!!” the Hero laughed eerily.
“C-come on, let’s stop! That’s not why we came here today!” the Saint said firmly.
“Ugh… fine!! Eventually…” the Hero muttered quietly.
“I am truly sorry. Today I came to check when it would be convenient for you to accompany the exploration. Also, we wanted to stream it, so I came to ask you, Black Knight,” said the Saint.
Annoying… I thought, better to finish this quickly. “I’ll leave the details to you. Talk to the maid about the rest.” I stood to leave.
“You!! How dare you act like that toward me, the world’s #1 Guild Ranking member!!”
The Hero, enraged by my attitude, lunged at me.
