Chapter 6
It was finally time for my unexpected “main job.”
‘This time I’m definitely charging extra. My job is not to protect the target!’
But once I learned that someone was targeting my ten-million fortune, I couldn’t just stand by and watch.
Before moving in, I waved my hand in front of the sleeping Liss’s face just to make sure he was really asleep.
‘Let’s see… smooth skin, neat hair, soft-looking eyelashes, red lips…’
I always thought he was pretty, but his sleeping face was even more…
No, no. That’s not what I should be thinking.
Anyway, his steady breathing confirmed he was deeply asleep.
I immediately lifted the maid uniform that reached my ankles and pulled out the weapon hidden on my thigh.
Then I quietly walked toward the faint presence outside the window where moonlight seeped in.
‘About four steps away. Closer than I thought.’
So the enemy was this close and I only noticed now… was I too focused on being a maid?
Finding the intruder didn’t take long. I quickly located him and silently opened the window, stepping out onto the terrace.
At this hour, any loud noise could give me away.
So I carefully climbed up toward the rooftop where I felt the presence.
And then…
“…Where did you roll in from?”
What I saw was not an assassin… well, technically it was, but…
“Cough… p-please… s-save me…”
The man lying face-down on the roof reached out to me desperately, like I was his savior.
CRACK.
A chilling sound echoed from his arm as if his bones were already broken.
With a sword at his waist and a hood covering his face, he was clearly an assassin targeting my ten-million—no, Liss.
But he looked like he was about to die already.
Strange. I hadn’t even touched him yet.
Suddenly, he jumped up and charged at me with a knife.
“Grrr… die!”
“Wow, impressive. He can still move like that.”
I simply stepped aside, and he rolled across the roof. For a final attack, it was full of openings.
As I approached him again, he cried in pain.
“P-please… spare me!”
I didn’t expect to hear that from an assassin.
THUD!
Knocking out someone already half-dead was easier than breathing.
I struck the back of his head with the scabbard instead of using the blade, and he collapsed unconscious.
The wounds under his torn clothes suggested he had been severely injured by someone skilled.
“Something’s weird.”
There were no guards or knights in the Cassio mansion.
Then who did this to him?
Rustle.
At that moment, I sensed movement below. It was a familiar presence—not an intruder.
‘W-what?! Since when…!’
Was I discovered? But I was sure Liss was asleep…
My heartbeat thundered in my ears as tension surged through me.
I slowly turned toward the sound.
Meanwhile, inside the bedroom…
click.
As the door closed, Liss’s lips curved into a smile.
‘So Aeil can really sing.’
He couldn’t stop laughing as he remembered her annoyed face when he asked for a lullaby.
A maid who openly showed dislike toward her master was something new to him.
Whether she was bad at hiding her expressions or simply didn’t bother—it was unusual, but not unpleasant.
“It should take about ten minutes to bring Del.”
Liss had deliberately left something out.
Del could only be caught by approaching slowly.
If you rushed in, Del would think it was a game and run away excitedly.
Aeil, unaware of this, was probably unknowingly playing with Del right now.
“…That should be enough.”
Liss’s smile faded as he looked toward the moonlit window.
A shadow was flickering on the terrace railing.
Because of that annoying presence, he had ended his conversation with Aeil early.
He couldn’t let an intruder be discovered by an “angel.”
Tsk.
Brushing his hair back with irritation, Liss stepped onto the terrace without hesitation.
At that moment, someone lunged at him as if waiting.
“Die!”
CLANG!
The assassin’s blade clashed with Liss’s dagger, producing a sharp metallic sound. Liss jumped onto the roof, and the assassin followed quickly.
“You monster! You can’t escape!”
“…So loud.”
In an instant, a cutting sound sliced through the air.
The assassin thought it was a blind swing from fear and tried to laugh—but—
“Ugh… aaagh!”
His nose was sliced off in an instant, and he collapsed, clutching his face.
“Aaaagh!”
Relentless attacks followed—strikes to vital points and legs to prevent escape. The assassin screamed in agony.
“P-please… spare me!”
But his mouth was suddenly sealed by an unseen force.
Unable to breathe, his face turned pale.
“I told you to be quiet.”
Liss’s violet eyes briefly flashed a blood-red glow as he stared coldly. The invisible force tightened around the assassin’s neck.
“Mon… monster…”
“Me? A monster?”
Liss tilted his head with a faint smile.
“Who, me?”
His black-red pupils flickered dangerously.
“Y-you monster… God will never forgive you…”
“I was saved by an angel.”
His calm voice made the assassin tremble.
He remembered what he had been told:
“The young master of the Cassio Duke family is still young. Not dangerous.”
They said he couldn’t control his so-called “monster power” yet.
They said there were no guards, so infiltration would be easy.
They said rumors were exaggerated.
‘That was a complete lie!’
Dark energy tightened further. Bones cracked as blood spilled from his mouth.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t block the invisible attack.
So this was the “monster duke house” power.
Overwhelmed with fear, the assassin finally lost consciousness.
“Too durable.”
Seeing he wasn’t dead yet, Liss raised his dagger again.
At that moment—
A strange scent reached his nose.
…sweet smell?
He froze.
‘Ah. Del must have been caught already.’
He felt Aeil’s presence below.
Then this sweet scent must also be hers.
‘If Del is caught, she’ll be coming here soon.’
The darkness in his mind cleared.
He remembered Aeil mentioning she had eaten cake with other maids.
So that’s why she smells sweet.
His red eyes returned to their usual violet.
He needed to return to the bedroom before Aeil saw him.
“…Guess I’ll postpone killing him.”
