Synopsis
A man who rose in status by loving a noblewoman.
Yet in the end, he falls into ruin because of that love.
I was the closest friend of the woman he loved.
When he appeared as if following the predetermined path to propose to my friend,
all I had left was one year to live.
So I decided—willingly—to exchange his ruin for the time I had left.
“Marry me, Dylan Fitzroy.”
A reckless decision, made in a fleeting moment,
carried out in a beautifully romantic way.
“Why are you going this far? If there’s something you want, just say it instead.”
Dylan was certain the table between them had tilted toward him.
After all, he had wealth—and with wealth, negotiations are always in one’s favor.
“I can give you anything you want, as much as you desire.”
“But I don’t want anything from you except marriage.”
There was, however, one thing Dylan did not yet understand.
The most dangerous opponent for someone who has everything… is someone who has nothing left to lose.
“Oh, there is one more thing. I want you to live happily ever after.”
“You’re insane. What is your real reason?”
Evelyn paused.
She had known since the moment she first anticipated being asked this question that she would prepare the most plausible answer.
But now that it was on her lips, she hesitated slightly.
Because that answer was—
“Because I love you.”
Even to herself, it was a pitiful lie.
