Chapter 3
I finally understood why this demon asked them about a hideout only after our house suddenly appeared near the location they mentioned.
‘Couldn’t you have just checked real estate in a normal way?’
Anyway.
‘I finally have a home!’
—would have been something to celebrate, but my situation wasn’t exactly good.
Living together with a demon.
It was a situation I had never even imagined.
‘But where did that demon go?’
When we were moving around, she never let me out of her arms for a second, but the moment the house was ready, she placed me on a crib and suddenly disappeared.
Even after I dozed off and woke up again, all I could see was a pink ceiling.
Um? Hello? Demon lady?
“Uh?”
Did she seriously abandon me here?
“Ah!”
So that’s why she kept carrying me around so carefully the whole time.
I was the fool for trusting a demon.
‘I’m hungry…’
So is this how I die in this life? Starving?
I had died of starvation a few times in past lives, so I wasn’t even that surprised.
‘Though it’s my first time starving as a baby.’
I flailed my tiny hands in the air for a moment, then gave up and went limp.
What could I even do in this body?
At least the room was decorated nicely—fancy and cute enough to be interesting.
But even that lost its charm after staring at it for too long.
As I lay there blankly staring at the ceiling, the door suddenly swung open, and a beautiful woman walked toward the crib.
“You’re awake?”
Wait, what?
You didn’t abandon me?
Confused, I stared at the demon woman as she picked me up.
“If you have something to say, you can call me.”
……Do you think that’s possible for a newborn baby?
“Hungry?”
I had been hungry for a while, so I instinctively nodded.
Of course, my neck was too weak for it to actually move.
Still, the demon seemed to understand what I wanted and carried me out to the living room.
The living room was much neater and more elegant than I had imagined.
Everything looked expensive, like she had brought them from somewhere.
It reminded me of noble houses I once worked in long ago doing odd jobs.
‘So she really is a demon…’
Her standards were extremely high.
“I brought formula this time.”
Brought? More like stole after threatening someone, isn’t it?
The source was suspicious, but I was too hungry to care.
I drank it anyway.
I had never known formula could taste this good.
‘Now I’m getting sleepy again…’
Babies really do sleep a lot.
As my eyes drooped mid-feeding, the demon gently shook me awake.
“Hey, hey. Don’t fall asleep. You need to finish this and burp afterward.”
Where did you even learn that?
‘I’m sleepy though…’
But she kept interfering with my sleep.
Annoyed, I weakly swatted her hand away with all my strength—but it didn’t matter at all.
In the end, she finished feeding me and even patted my back.
“Ugh.”
A burp escaped.
And I was instantly filled with overwhelming shame.
I grumbled in embarrassment, blaming the demon, but it didn’t last long.
My stomach was full and comfortable, and I drifted off to sleep almost immediately.
Time passed peacefully.
Every morning, supplies for daily life and baby items would be left at the door, suggesting the demon had yelled at someone and blocked human access.
Other than that, it was peaceful.
Wake, eat, poop, sleep. Eat, poop, sleep.
The demon’s handling of me became gentler over time, and feeding me milk also became smoother.
Most importantly, the best thing about having this demon as my guardian was that she could clean me properly without undressing me.
With magic!
‘That part is nice, but when am I actually going to die?’
It had been nearly a year since I was born, and there was no sign of death.
In previous lives, I died soon after my memories returned.
But this time, I had no idea why I was still alive.
‘Don’t tell me I’ll just keep growing until adulthood?’
That would be annoying…
But something kept breaking my boredom.
The demon who somehow became my guardian.
“Why aren’t you growing?”
She narrowed her eyes while feeding me milk.
‘Why are you staring like that? Are you going to abandon me if I don’t grow?’
I just stared blankly at her.
‘What else can I do if I open my mouth? Just babble nonsense?’
I had never seen a demon pressure a baby to grow this fast.
“Did those guys lie? How can you become an adult if you’re this small?”
She muttered in disbelief, kneading my tiny hand holding the bottle.
‘Don’t touch me while I’m eating! Demon!’
I tried to pull my hand away, but there was no way a baby could escape the grip of an adult demon.
In the end, I gave up and let her squish my hand.
At least the bottle didn’t fall.
“Is it because you’re part fairy?”
No, this is normal!
After thinking seriously for a while, the demon stood up while holding me and gently patted me.
She seemed to be going outside for once.
I thought it was a good chance since she rarely went out.
—That thought lasted five minutes.
‘You insane demon!! Put me down!!’
“Ah! Sheer!!”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. I just need to ask you for something.”
How does that justify this?!
If a demon didn’t cause trouble daily, it probably got itchy.
“Intruder! Intruder! A demon has appeared!!”
“Combat formation!”
“If you take one more step into our land, we won’t forgive you!”
What was happening was this:
The demon had suddenly invaded a fairy territory where they were living peacefully.
She even tore through a barrier that prevented anything non-fairy from entering.
The funny part was that she repaired it neatly afterward.
‘Why are you like this, you insane demon?! There has to be a reason!’
Even as a human baby, I was overwhelmed.
Tiny glowing lights surrounded us densely.
It was a breathtaking scene, but the situation made it hard to appreciate.
“Leave before I count to three!”
“One…”
While the glowing beings flickered in warning, the demon suddenly lifted me and shoved me in front of them.
“There’s an elder here, right? Call them. I need them to look at this child.”
The lights hesitated and stared at me.
“F-Fairy energy?”
“But it’s weak. Is she a human hybrid?”
“What do we do? Should we call the elder?”
“It’s too dangerous… I’m sorry, but we can’t allow a demon in our land.”
The demon clicked her tongue.
“I’m telling you, you’ll lose if you fight me.”
“You think threats will work on us?”
“It’s not a threat. It’s fact.”
Is she seriously going to fight these tiny fairies too?
What a cruel demon.
I couldn’t take it anymore and flailed my arms at her.
“Myaa! Dyaah!”
‘Stop it! I’m sorry, our demon is just unreasonable! Let’s talk it out!’
I had so many things to say, but I had no way to express them.
Baby tongues were way too limited.
“You heard her. Move aside. She’s in a hurry.”
What did you hear, you demon?!
I was starting to appreciate the importance of communication.
“Th-That! Barbaric! Using a baby as a shield!”
“What if the baby actually asked for help?”
I gave up and stayed limp in her arms.
At this point, it was clearly the demon causing trouble.
I even lost the desire to defend her.
Just as I wished I could scream “Run away!”
At that moment—
“Everyone, stop. Move aside.”
A calm voice echoed.
Soon, an elderly fairy stepped forward with a staff.
“Elder!”
“Don’t!”
The glowing fairies quickly shifted into humanoid forms and blocked the elder.
‘So they can turn into humans.’
All of them were extremely beautiful…
‘This really is paradise.’
And the most beautiful one of all was, ironically, the demon holding me.
No wonder demons can bewitch people.
“What is this disrespect? Entering the human world is not the only violation of the treaty.”
“I politely knocked. You just rejected me because I’m a demon. I even brought gifts.”
Knocked? She means slamming the barrier?
That wasn’t knocking.
The fairies looked stunned too.
“Even so, breaking the barrier was wrong. It felt like a threat.”
“I’ll apologize for that. And I even reinforced it stronger than before. I’m not here to conquer or harm you.”
The demon shrugged.
“I have no intention of fighting fairies.”
She had the nerve to say that after tearing their barrier apart.
The fairies looked speechless.
“I only came to protect this child. How could I possibly leave a fairy child like this?”
“So you made a contract with the fairies?”
“Yeah.”
At her casual answer, sighs spread among the fairies.
“…That’s impossible.”
“Which crazy fairy would ever contract with a demon?”
