Li Chunhua stared fixedly at the three bars of soap in Su Jin’s hands.
If she went home today, how would her family even wash themselves?
Su Jin didn’t pay any attention to her thoughts. Instead, she asked the salesperson, “Let me see the bedding.”
The salesperson showed her two sets of bedding, and Su Jin carefully examined them, while the women around her mimicked her, inspecting the quality of the bedding.
“That stubborn girl, didn’t you hear me?”
Su Jin meticulously checked the bedding in her hands, completely ignoring Li Chunhua’s unreasonable yelling.
Li Chunhua’s anger ignited instantly. She charged forward, snatching the bedding from Su Jin’s hands. “I told you to look!”
She wanted to push Su Jin further, but Jiang Heng stopped her with a firm arm, solid like a wall, shielding Su Jin. His large hand wrapped around her small, soft hand protectively.
“We’ve already bought everything. The salesperson said we’ll have to wait for more stock anyway. Looks like you’re the one who didn’t understand, huh?”
Li Chunhua froze, her mouth twisting in anger. “No way! If that stubborn girl hadn’t held me up just now, I could have bought it!”
Su Jin’s lips curved into a full-blown smirk. “Oh? So this is how shameless you are? You’ve got a dog clinging to you, and it’s a problem?”
Li Chunhua’s eyes widened like a cow’s, her nails digging into her palms, but she held back. Her expression softened, and she said in a more measured tone, “Ah, Jiang Heng’s household, I just got flustered looking for the goods and spoke out of turn. Don’t blame me!”
Su Jin shrugged nonchalantly. “It’s fine. I don’t bother with dogs.”
Li Chunhua bit her lip, muttering a curse internally, but forced a pleasant face.
“Jiang Heng’s, you two don’t need this much soap, right? But our family is different—full of strong men. After a day of work, when we strip off our sweaty clothes in the heat, we can wring out a whole bucket of water. Without soap, washing is just wasting water; you still won’t get clean.”
Su Jin knew that just a moment ago, Li Chunhua had been baring her teeth like she wanted to devour her. And now suddenly, she was speaking sweetly—it all seemed completely fake.
“Oh~ so then, this comrade, do you have many men in your household?”
Li Chunhua almost blurted out, Didn’t that stubborn girl hear what I just said? But she endured, answering, “Yes.”
Su Jin: “I bought the soap, right?”
Li Chunhua: “Yes.”
Su Jin: “Then what does my soap have to do with the men in your house? It has nothing to do with it!”
Li Chunhua was speechless, her lips trembling from anger.
“You dare play me?”
Her face turned purple and blue with fury.
Jiang Heng commented calmly, “Dogs are dogs, humans are humans. There’s a difference, especially when you’re comparing two completely different species.”
Su Jin couldn’t help laughing at his words. “Exactly. I’m a long way from aging, but you skipped the blooming stage entirely. According to your logic, your husband should have—”
Li Chunhua flailed her arms wildly, her panicked movements betraying her thoughts.
Su Jin: “Fine, dreaming to yourself is probably best.”
“Wait, what are they saying?”
“Yeah, one moment it’s about humans, the next about dogs… I have no idea what they mean.”
The curious women trying to eavesdrop failed. Rural women like Li Chunhua are fiercely protective of their husbands, suspicious of any other woman, always fearing someone might steal their man.
Li Chunhua furrowed her brows tightly and spat angrily, “Just wait!”
Su Jin waved at her. “Even fleeing in defeat, you still need to feel important. You really fail at life.”
As she stepped forward, Li Chunhua felt a surge of old anger rising in her throat.
This new bride was different—clever, sharp-tongued, and utterly infuriating.
Looking at the small figure in front of him, Jiang Heng thought how Su Jin really had a way of wielding power like a fox pretending to be a tiger.
