Episode 1

The Divorce and the Turning Point

A mansion located in the best residential area.

Rain had been pouring since dawn, fiercely tapping against the window.

In a bedroom filled with luxurious interiors and famous brand furniture, Seo-eun woke from a restless sleep.

Her room was on the eastern end of the third floor, while Jaehyun’s room was on the west. Since the beginning of their marriage, they had always used separate rooms — and never once crossed that line.

She glanced at the calendar. It was their wedding anniversary.

> “It would’ve been better if I had forgotten too.”

With a bitter smile, Seo-eun opened her desk drawer.

Inside was an envelope she had kept for a long time — the divorce agreement.

Both their signatures were neatly written on the document, only the date was left blank.

She recalled the day she went to Jaehyun’s study before everything broke apart.

His study, overlooking the Seoul night view, was as tidy and cold as his personality. The documents on his desk were neatly arranged, and a warm desk lamp gently lit the side of his perfect face.

Though it was late at night, he continued working. Without even looking up, he spoke.

> “What is it?”

Her hand trembled slightly as she handed over the document.

He didn’t hesitate. He took it without a glance and signed it swiftly with a fountain pen.

> “It’s done, right?”

His tone was cold, but firm — just like the heir of the Seowon Group.

Later, Jaehyun appeared confidently in a televised interview:

> “Our new project will greatly benefit the national economy.”

When asked about monopolizing the Korean auto industry and the importance of helping small companies:

> “We prioritize mutual growth. Last year alone, we created a 500 billion won support fund and actively help small enterprises with tech development. We’re not dominating — we’re growing together.”

The camera showed his confident posture, clad in a perfect black double suit and wine-colored tie. His presence was both cold and commanding — and far from reachable.

Seo-eun could only watch him from a distance.

They were close, yet never truly close. That was the relationship between her and her husband, Cha Jaehyun.

Even though she dressed up and did her makeup every morning, he never looked at her.

> “I should’ve known better… I was never meant to be part of his life.”

She thought, looking at her reflection in the glass.

Then, her phone rang.

[Jaewoo’s Check-Up Appointment]

Her face stiffened.

> “If only Mom were here…”

But she couldn’t afford to be weak now. She forced back tears and gathered herself. Sitting before her vanity, she glanced once more at the envelope with the divorce papers.

> “It’s really time to end this… for your sake too.”

After enduring his coldness and emotional neglect for three years, Seo-eun once believed it was the price she had to pay.

But now she realized that staying out of guilt was selfish.

> “It’s time to let go.”

She packed the divorce papers in her bag. Outside, it was still raining.

> “As a wedding anniversary gift… I’ll return your freedom. That’s the only thing I can give now.”

Holding an umbrella, she stepped out with a bitter smile.

In the car on her way to the Seoul Family Court, silence filled the space.

The city outside looked unfamiliar.

Though she had made up her mind, it was hard to believe that three years of marriage were ending like this.

Even the driver sensed something and glanced at her through the mirror. She looked out the window, trying to hide her red eyes with more makeup.

The roads were unusually clear.

> “Ma’am, we’ve arrived.”

> “Thank you.”

She gave what could be her last polite goodbye.

At the court, many people were already waiting in line — each with their own painful stories. Some looked relieved, others tense.

As she waited for her turn, Seo-eun kept touching the papers in her bag.

> “Is this really the right thing?”

Her father would never approve if he found out. Still, she couldn’t go back now.

> “Number 265.”

Her number was called.

She stepped forward — and hesitated.

Is this really okay?

At that moment, her phone rang again.

She looked at the screen — her expression shifted.

> “Yes, Secretary Jang?”

– “Madam… There’s been an accident. The President was injured during a factory inspection. You need to come immediately.”

Everything went silent.

She couldn’t hear anything else the secretary said. The world stopped. Her grip loosened, and the documents scattered on the floor.

Someone tried to help her pick them up, but she was already running.

Daehan University Hospital

Seo-eun rushed into the hospital lobby, breathless, heart pounding. Her eyes darted frantically.

> “Please… let him be okay.”

Then she spotted a familiar face — Jang Tae-soo, Jaehyun’s secretary.

> “Madam.”

He hurried to her.

> “You got here quickly.”

> “I was nearby…”

His voice, usually calm, was shaky — a sign the situation was serious.

The last image of Jaehyun the night before — coldly walking past her — flashed in her mind.

> “Please… take me to him first.”

> “Yes, this way.”

She followed him to the VIP room where Jaehyun was hospitalized.

Inside the elevator, she squeezed her trembling hands and whispered:

> “What… happened?”

The night before had been just like any other. Cold. Distant.

He had married her against his will, and she had always known that.

When she came down to prepare breakfast, the housekeeper was bustling around.

> “The President left early again.”

> “Yes.”

He wasn’t avoiding her because of work — but because he didn’t want to face her.

She had grown used to eating alone.

> “I know today is special.”

The housekeeper gave her a pitiful look. Seo-eun smiled weakly.

> “It’s just another ordinary day.”

As she sat alone at the dining table, Jaehyun’s interview played on the TV again.

There he was — standing confidently in front of their company’s impressive new headquarters.
