Chapter 1 of “I Married My Fiancé’s Younger Brother”:
“You’ve just reached adulthood, right? Your life’s about to take off. From your youth until the end, you’re destined to be showered in wealth. Money will stick to you even if you don’t want it!”
That’s what the fortune-teller told me the moment I became an adult. Thinking “How lucky could I really be?” I bought a lottery ticket for the first time on my way home.
I won first place. Suddenly, 2 billion won fell into my hands. I couldn’t believe it, even as I collected the money from the bank.
Of course, I never imagined I’d end up holding that kind of money. I had found money on the street before during my school years, but never 2 billion won.
Just in case, I bought another ticket the next week.
This time, I won 4 billion.
In total, I won the lottery five times.
I started investing in stocks out of boredom, just to follow a friend—and the stocks skyrocketed. Wallets and lost items I found on the street always turned out to belong to rich people, and I received generous rewards. I used the money to buy real estate, and the property values went wild.
I bought my own house, my own car, and eventually, with nowhere left to spend money, I started making small donations. And just like that, the money came back to me even more abundantly. Just as the fortune-teller said, a life buried in money had begun.
You think having all that money must have been great?
Absolutely not.
I came from an ordinary family.
In other words, the money was no longer just mine. At first, I willingly gave some out of gratitude for being raised. But over time, their demands became excessive.
“Hey, Geum-hee, send me some cash. I’m going golfing with my boss.”
“Geum-hee, let’s go shopping. The new arrivals are in!”
“Yo, Kim Geum-hee. Gimme some money to go on a trip with my girlfriend.”
In the end, I cut ties with my family and left home.
Sadly, it wasn’t just my family that tormented me. Friends, distant cousins I’d never even heard of, everyone tried to mooch off me.
After pushing them away with all my might, my health deteriorated from the stress—and the result was terminal cancer.
People often say, “That’ll give you cancer.” In my case, it was literal. I got cancer and died.
What a ridiculous, empty life.
If there’s a next life, please—don’t let me die like that again.
That’s what I prayed.
And then…
“What did you say?”
“What, are you deaf already, kid?”
A luxurious restaurant that far outshone anything from my life as Kim Geum-hee.
At that thunderous comment, I blinked blankly, a forkful of meat still in my hand.
“Dear…”
A handsome middle-aged man with soft pink-blonde hair, who looked out of place in this dark, gothic castle, hesitantly tried to stop his wife. The young man next to him, who shared his pink-blonde hair, looked equally worried.
But the Duke of Praviche paid them no mind. With a flick of his hand, he took my plate and scolded his husband.
“Don’t interfere. This is unacceptable behavior from a member of the Praviche family.”
By the time I realized my plate had been taken, the meat had already been neatly sliced and served back to me. The Duke gave me a cold glare and pulled out a heavy pouch from his coat.
“If you can’t spend all of this money by tomorrow, you won’t get an allowance next month. A true Praviche knows how to spend money.”
At his reprimand, the Duke’s husband and the younger brother sitting across the table teared up. The older brother beside me sneered.
This was the novel Oh, My Dahlia.
I had possessed the body of the youngest daughter of the richest villain family in the novel.
* * *
“Damn it…”
After that uncomfortable meal, I flopped onto my bed, unable to comprehend my situation.
“I’m Evelyn Praviche?”
I let out a hollow laugh.
Who was Evelyn Praviche?
Pink-blonde hair. Eyes the color of lavender blossoms. With her beauty alone, she actively interfered in the love between the male and female leads of Oh, My Dahlia and ended up dying a villainess.
And what about the Praviche family?
Frankly, the entire family served as obstacles to the love between the leads. Evelyn’s role was mostly to highlight how villainous her family was. Even though she was treated like a minor villain in the original story, within the family, she was a beloved daughter.
When Evelyn died, the Praviche family erupted in rage. The Duke’s husband and second son Asil lashed out at Dahlia in high society, which would’ve been fine—except the real problem was the eldest son, Douglas.
Douglas, consumed by the shame of the family’s disgrace, challenged the crown prince to a duel and died meaninglessly.
“And that just sent the final boss—the Duke—completely off the rails…”
After losing both his daughter and son, the Duke prepared a rebellion. But the brilliant white mage Dahlia thwarted him completely.
Thus, the Praviche family was destroyed.
“Well… Whatever the reason, now that I’ve possessed Evelyn, there’s no way this family is going down.”
There’s no way I’d fall for the male lead, the crown prince. Just reading about him in the novel gave me the ick—he’s so rude, definitely not my type.
If I had to choose a favorite from the original story, it’d be the second male lead, Raphael.
Great looks, good personality—what’s not to like?
But still, I didn’t want anything to do with him here.
“He’s a psycho who kills people. No thanks.”
I’d just lay low. Quit the story altogether.
So far, Evelyn had only been publicly dumped by the crown prince. She hadn’t committed any crimes like attempted murder yet.
Which meant if I just stayed holed up at home, I could probably escape the plot.
“Even though I have to spend all this money by tomorrow…”
Shopping can be done from home, so no big deal. In this life, I’m rich again—and thankfully, so is my family.
I didn’t care if Evelyn’s villainous reputation stuck around. If you’re nice and rich, you just get taken advantage of. A bad reputation is actually helpful.
“Alright. This time, I won’t be anyone’s pushover. I’ll live quietly and just enjoy spending money.”
I wasn’t interested in the story. I didn’t even like going out in the first place, so unless a character deliberately came looking for me, I could live this life in peace.
After being worn down by people in my previous life, this peaceful comfort was more than welcome. As I set my new life goals, I heard a knock.
“Honey, are you asleep?”
It was the Duke’s husband, Henry Praviche. I paused to consider my reply, then gave a neutral answer.
“No, I’m awake.”
“I’m coming in, then.”
The door opened gently. Henry entered with quiet steps and, seeing me sitting on the bed, gave me a look of deep concern. He sat beside me and patted my shoulder.
“Your mother was a bit too forceful earlier, wasn’t she? I’m sorry about that. I’ll apologize for her.”
His unexpected words made me tilt my head.
Apologize? Sure, her tone was harsh, but wasn’t she just saying I could spend a ton of money? Who wouldn’t like that?
Still, Henry looked genuinely worried and started rambling.
“She’s just worried about you. You haven’t been shopping since what happened with the crown prince, so she thought treating you to something nice might cheer you up. You get where she’s coming from, right?”
…Is this guy really a villain? Why is he so sweet?
The Duke gave off major villain vibes just from looking at him. But the Duke’s husband looked like a gentle, handsome middle-aged man. Compared to my past life’s family, he seemed a lot less villainous.
He let out a deep sigh and gently smoothed my pink-blonde hair, tousled from lying down.
“Sweetheart, there are plenty of men in the world. Forget that rude bastard already. Or do you want me to find someone new for you? Best way to get over a man is with another one. Just say the word. What’s your type? I’ll get you one.”
Scratch that. He’s definitely a villain too.
Henry is a major player in high society. If I said anything, he might really drag all the eligible bachelors here. Internally shouting “No outsiders, ever,” I shook my head.
“No thanks. I’m not doing romance for a while.”
I meant it as reassurance, but Henry just looked more distressed.
“Why are you speaking so formally? Are you mad at me or something?”
Oh, right. I forgot and slipped into my usual speech pattern.
I quickly corrected myself.
“No. I’m not mad.”
He didn’t look convinced. Muttering something about heartbreak, he suddenly exclaimed:
“That’s it! Let’s call the designers right now. You’ll feel better after seeing some pretty dresses and jewelry!”
“What?”
It was 9 p.m. Even for a villain family, would designers really show up right away?
Despite my bewildered expression, Henry ordered the butler to summon them.
And 30 minutes later, in the drawing room—
“You called, my lord.”
“You brought the catalogs, right? My daughter’s going to pick something.”
“Of course. We always have exclusive designs ready for Lady Evelyn.”
It was 9:30 p.m., and they really came.
Well, this is the villain family, after all.
Despite the sudden summons, five designers appeared as if they’d been waiting. Catalogs from five boutiques—fifty in total—were presented, along with countless fabric samples.
“What is happening…”
I flipped through the catalogs with glazed eyes. Every dress was ridiculously revealing. Though overwhelmed at first, my eyes soon began to sparkle.
They were totally my taste.
“Evelyn, this one would suit you.”
“Asil, how can you be so blind? She’ll take the whole catalog. Every one of these was made for Evelyn.”
…At some point, the second son had joined in picking out my dresses too.
This family… I just can’t get used to them.
Before I melted from all this affection, I needed to let the world know I was totally over the crown prince.
To get the designers out of here quickly, I slapped the catalog shut and said:
“What’s the point of picking? Just bring them all.”
“Evelyn!”
Henry and Asil called my name in unison. For a second, I wondered if buying everything was too much.
“You finally feel like spending money!”
“Are you feeling better now?”
Their faces lit up. Even though we’d just blown through the price of two mansions in the capital. The one who was heartbroken was Evelyn, not me—but I already knew what she would say.
“No. Not yet.”
SQUISH.
At my reply, Henry and Asil hugged me from both sides. They thought I was finally returning to normal.
“…This isn’t so bad.”
When was the last time I was hugged by family?
Hiding my embarrassment, I casually waved the designers away.
And at that moment—
“What is all this.”
Black hair, violet eyes. Douglas entered the room, frowning. If Asil looked like Henry’s son, Douglas looked like the Duke’s clone.
The moment Douglas entered, I scowled. We mirrored each other’s expressions of distaste. Asil watched us nervously.
Henry, oblivious, smiled cheerfully.
“Oh, Douglas, you’re still up? Help Evelyn pick a dress!”
The designers, about to leave, scrambled to present the catalogs again. Douglas ignored them and stared straight at me, sneering.
“No matter what you wear, you and the crown prince don’t match. Stop wasting your time.”
Even in this fantasy family, there’s always one who acts like my real-life relatives.
…That guy is Douglas.
He’d been the only one to mock me during dinner too.
Henry gasped.
“Douglas! How can you say that to your sister!”
“Are you crazy, bro?!”
Asil jumped in. But Douglas didn’t back down.
“Father, you’ve spoiled her too much. She’s an adult now, yet she acts like a child. You should make her do some work instead of letting her waste time on nonsense. It’s pathetic.”
“Douglas!”
Henry shrieked. Asil glanced at me anxiously. But surprisingly, I wasn’t upset at all.
I’m not really Evelyn, after all. His nagging didn’t affect me.
“Still… that smug face is really pissing me off.”
The words slipped out before I realized it.
“It’s always the ones who contribute nothing who run their mouths the most.”
Three sets of eyes turned toward me.
…Oops. I accidentally said that out loud.
I quickly clapped a hand over my mouth.
