Chapter – 75
Hiding Beneath the Beast Husband’s Wings
Jiang Xi: “?”
Before she could speak, Mu Ling let out an angry shout.
“If you want to fight, then fight! Who’s afraid of who!!”
In a flash, he appeared on the ice.
Yi Yuexi stepped on drifting snowflakes and swiftly swept over as well.
Jiang Xi covered her face, torn between laughter and tears.
These two childish idiots—when were they ever going to grow up and be steady?
At that moment, Huo Lun’s voice suddenly rang out.
“Female Master, should I go too?”
Jiang Xi slowly lifted her eyes to look at him.
The man’s neck and sharp jaw were still covered in gleaming golden scales. His head of golden hair shone brilliantly, and his green lion eyes gazed at her—as if the moment she gave the order, he would rush in and turn it into a three-way melee.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Xi shook her head.
“Forget it. Your combat strength is higher than theirs. If you join, it’ll throw things out of balance. Let them play on their own.”
Although Yi Yuexi wasn’t as strong as Mu Ling in pure physical combat, his icy blue snowflakes were razor-sharp.
Mu Ling wouldn’t find it easy to gain the upper hand against him either.
Snow fell thickly. On the frozen river, the two figures occasionally flashed together, accompanied by the howl of wind, the hiss of snow—and the childish shouts of battle.
“Come on!”
“Come on!”
“Don’t think I won’t hurt you!”
“You think I’m scared of you?!”
However…
As the fight intensified, Jiang Xi instead noticed that the recovery speed of the healing ability within her body had increased again.
Her eyes flickered thoughtfully.
Could it be that the fiercer the battle, the more her beast husbands used their abilities, and the faster her recovery became?
Lu Liufeng noticed her silence and asked,
“Female Master, did you discover something?”
Jiang Xi hurriedly shook her head.
“No, no. I was just thinking that if they keep fighting like this, the mental power I recover might not even be enough to heal their injuries…”
She had no intention of telling them the “the fiercer the better” theory.
Right now, it was family fighting family, so they were all holding back.
If she encouraged them to fight more intensely and things went too far—if someone died—that would be disastrous.
After all, she was the Female Master. If she gave the word, they would absolutely go all out, fighting viciously just to give her the effect she wanted.
And when facing outsiders, she wouldn’t even need to say anything—they would already fight with everything they had.
So… better not say it. Better not fan the flames.
Peace and love.
Peace and love~
The feeling of strength returning to her body was wonderful. She patted Lu Liufeng’s hand, signaling him to put her down.
“Put me down. I’m basically fine now.”
Being held like this the whole time was honestly a bit embarrassing.
Lu Liufeng hummed in response. Though he set her down, his arm still lightly wrapped around her waist, preventing her from falling backward.
Jiang Xi leaned against him. His drooping feathered wings wrapped around half her body, warm and cozy.
Without realizing it, she snuggled a bit closer into his embrace.
Sensing her movement, Lu Liufeng lowered his gaze with a smile and shifted his wings forward, almost completely enveloping her within them.
Jiang Xi tugged at his wings, poking out a fluffy little head, and grinned at him.
Huo Lun stood off to the side, awkwardly unsure where to look.
Watching the fight on the frozen river—there wasn’t much to see.
Watching the Female Master and Lu Liufeng—he felt like a third wheel who shouldn’t be there, an eyesore.
Huo Lun had never experienced being ignored like this before. A strange emptiness welled up in his chest.
This winter… was really cold.
But soon, someone came to his rescue.
When Huo Lun noticed more than a dozen beastmen returning upstream along the frozen river, he immediately spoke up, interrupting the sweet moment between Jiang Xi and Lu Liufeng.
“The beastmen who went to investigate the black fish are back!!”
Jiang Xi followed the direction Huo Lun pointed, not noticing his slightly forced enthusiasm.
Lu Liufeng, however, did notice.
He sighed inwardly, feeling as though this was exactly as expected.
Hong, the First Female’s beast husband, descended from the sky.
He glanced at the frozen river in surprise. Although it wasn’t uncommon for beastmen in the tribe to fight over a Female…
This level of intensity was rare.
Still, since the other party was a Female Envoy, Hong didn’t say anything. He simply reported what he and his group had discovered while searching along the river.
“We searched all night and didn’t find any black fish. We were planning to return, pack our things, and then send out two separate teams—one upstream toward Mangjiao, and one downstream toward the territory under Lingkong’s control—to see if either tribe has been affected by black fish contamination.”
Jiang Xi slipped out from under Lu Liufeng’s wings and stood beside him.
She nodded. There wasn’t much she could do to help with matters like this, so she could only offer a few polite words.
“Thank you for your hard work. If—”
Before she could finish, Jiang Xi suddenly sensed something.
That aura—the same one she’d felt yesterday when Lu Liufeng and the others came into contact with the black fish.
But this time, it was far stronger. Much, much stronger!!
And the moment that aura surged toward her, it coincided perfectly with the beastmen who had gone out with Hong drawing close.
Jiang Xi instantly became alert.
She tightly grabbed Lu Liufeng’s hand and squeezed twice, then looked at Hong and quickly shot him a meaningful glance.
Lu Liufeng sensed something was wrong. He lowered his gaze, scooped the Female Master up in his arms, and used the wind to retreat rapidly toward the frozen river.
Hong wasn’t stupid. The moment the Female Envoy signaled him, he knew she must have discovered something—and that it was related to contamination.
When Lu Liufeng carried the Female Envoy away from the accompanying beastmen and retreated toward the ice, Hong immediately understood.
The problem lay with those beastmen.
As she retreated, Jiang Xi shouted loudly,
“Spread out! Something’s wrong with them!!”
The golden scales that had just faded from Huo Lun’s neck instantly reappeared. Golden light spiraled around his body as his green lion eyes swept inch by inch over the beastmen.
The dozen or so beastmen looked at one another in confusion, then slowly began to spread out.
They had set out to search the frozen river before the black fish were burned yesterday.
So they had no idea what had happened later in the tribe.
Aside from Hong, the others still regarded Jiang Xi’s words with skepticism.
They firmly believed that the First Female and the Chief were simply stirring up trouble to curry favor with the Female Envoy.
After searching all night, they were exhausted. All they wanted was to go back, eat something hot, and get some sleep.
But when they thought about how Hong would organize two more teams to head toward Mangjiao and Lingkong’s territory, an indescribable irritation and resentment surged in their hearts.
In this cursed weather, a round trip would take at least a month. Whether they’d even survive the journey was uncertain.
So annoying.
But just as one beastman thought this—
He suddenly felt a chill in his chest.
Cold wind pierced through him.
The beastman blankly lowered his head, looking toward his chest—only to see a black, shriveled hand thrust straight through it. In its palm, a bright red heart thumped wildly.
A piercing scream—“AH—!”—rang out, no one knowing who it came from.
The beastmen instantly recoiled in terror, unleashing their abilities and attacking in the direction of the black hand.
