Chapter – 41
The Master’s Hand is So Small and Soft
Jiang Xi’s gaze fell on the corn cob that had been bitten into, and she fell silent.
Lu Liufeng was about to speak when a blur flashed in and out, snatching two ears of corn before disappearing from the kitchen.
Mu Ling’s voice came from outside, growing fainter and fainter.
“I’m going to chop bamboo!!”
Lu Liufeng: “…”
Jiang Xi looked at the now-empty seat across from her and fell even deeper into silence.
The kitchen grew quiet.
Jiang Xi awkwardly tried to lighten the mood.
“So that’s speed ability. So fast.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, the atmosphere became even more awkward.
Lu Liufeng coughed once.
He took the corn from her bamboo bowl—the one she had taken a bite from—and placed it in his own bowl, then gave her his untouched ear.
“Master need not pay him any mind.”
Yi Yuexi said with a smile, “Beastmen with speed abilities love doing things like that.”
Jiang Xi looked at him in confusion, not understanding.
Yi Yuexi: “Their brains aren’t as fast as their ability.”
In short, they’re dumb!
Jiang Xi was even more lost.
“If their brains were as fast as their ability, wouldn’t that be something else?”
Yi Yuexi looked at her pair of innocent dark eyes and thought to himself, only such a naive master would accept such a dumb beast-husband!
He wasn’t going to play with dumb people!
The next moment, he raised his hand, showing off.
“My ability is much prettier than his speed ability.”
As soon as he finished speaking, ice-blue snowflakes began drifting through the kitchen.
Jiang Xi reached out in surprise to catch them. The hexagonal snowflake had barely touched her fingertip before the cold made her shiver.
“So cold!”
The snowflakes didn’t stop, landing on her hair and the steaming hot dining table.
Lu Liufeng shook his head helplessly.
He waved a hand, blowing the snowflakes outside.
“With this cold weather, the snow outside is plenty.”
Yi Yuexi curled his lip and retracted his ability.
Seeing each of them display their abilities, Jiang Xi remembered the business at hand.
She looked toward Lu Liufeng.
“After we finish the potato noodles later, I’ll help you regulate your ability!”
She had only done this for Duan Si before. Duan Si’s ability was more volatile, so the feedback to her healing ability was substantial.
She wanted to try helping Lu Liufeng to see if her healing ability would also grow afterward!
If that were really the case, she could speed up the growth of her ability!
Although there was no immediate danger for now.
After all, the Cursed Land was the greatest danger. What if something happened someday? With her current healing range, she wouldn’t be much help.
When Lu Liufeng heard this, his face instantly flushed red.
He glanced quickly at Yi Yuexi at the table before looking back at his master.
“Okay, okay.”
His voice was a little unsteady with nervousness.
Would… would the master really help him regulate his ability so soon?
So fast.
He’d heard it felt very comfortable…
His thoughts began to wander, and he ate breakfast absentmindedly, his mind completely occupied with the coming ability regulation.
Yi Yuexi watched Lu Liufeng’s lovesick expression, his fox-like eyes slightly raised.
He was from the fox tribe. Even without personal experience, he had observed enough to be very familiar with matters of love and affection.
He had originally thought that Lu Liufeng stayed for largely external reasons.
But now, it seemed he genuinely liked the master.
His gaze subtly shifted to the master.
Her hair was black and glossy, her pair of dark eyes beautiful, but her entire body was clad in black!!
How could anyone like that!!??
Could he have fallen for her without even seeing her face??
He didn’t understand.
After breakfast, Lu Liufeng helped the master prepare the potato noodles faster than ever before.
Yi Yuexi also stayed after the meal, curious enough to help make the potato noodles.
Jiang Xi put him to work using bamboo tubes to make a noodle press with holes for later use.
First, they needed to make a slurry for the potato noodles.
Mix potato starch with warm water into a thin paste. Then, while pouring boiling water, quickly stir the paste with a wooden stick until it thickens into a paste-like consistency—similar to lotus root starch—signaling success.
After that, add cornstarch and potato starch, kneading until it becomes non-sticky and elastic, able to stretch without breaking.
It was somewhat like dough, but with a slightly higher water content.
By the time Yi Yuexi brought in the bamboo press, the water had been heated to just below boiling.
A pot of cold water for cooling was also prepared beside the stone pot.
Seeing Yi Yuexi, Jiang Xi remembered his ability to freeze and quickly said,
“Can you make the cold water in that pot even colder?”
Yi Yuexi paused in confusion.
“How?”
Jiang Xi was even more confused.
“Use your ability.”
Yi Yuexi: “…”
He never imagined that one day, his ability would be used in the kitchen.
Though he thought this, for the sake of a good meal, he dutifully went to chill the water.
The three had a clear division of labor.
Yi Yuexi was responsible for holding the bamboo press over the pot of near-boiling water.
Lu Liufeng was responsible for filling the press with the kneaded potato starch dough and, using his wind ability, cutting and controlling the length of the noodles.
As for Jiang Xi, she used extra-long chopsticks to scoop the potato noodles from the pot into the ice water for the final setting.
Lu Liufeng was working, but his mind had long since drifted away.
His gaze kept falling on the master, then he’d somewhat shyly look away. His amber eyes gleamed faintly, his face flushed, and even the tips of his ears were red.
Jiang Xi would only think it was from the heat of the fire.
After all, all three of them were around the hearth.
Making potato noodles wasn’t difficult—just a lot of steps and troublesome.
But the sense of accomplishment after making them was fulfilling!
The three worked all morning, and it was soon time for lunch.
Jiang Xi reheated the remaining pork head meat, added the potato noodles and shepherd’s purse greens. With meat, vegetables, and staple food all in one pot, it was all solved!
Neither Lu Liufeng nor Yi Yuexi had eaten this kind of long, noodle-like food before. They didn’t know how to slurp or twirl them.
When picking them up with chopsticks, they had to stand up to match the length of the noodles, then bend over to catch them from below.
The scene was downright comical.
Jiang Xi almost laughed out loud.
No choice—she had to teach them how to twirl the noodles around their chopsticks and put them in their mouths, or simply bite them off.
Sandwiched between the two large chairs, she taught left and right.
Lu Liufeng learned quickly, but Yi Yuexi remained a bit awkward.
He held his chopsticks wrong from the start.
Jiang Xi had to take his fingers in her hand to correct his grip.
Feeling her hold his fingers, Yi Yuexi instinctively wanted to pull back.
But for the sake of eating, he endured.
However…
The master’s hand was so small and soft.
Yi Yuexi curled his fingers somewhat uncomfortably.
Jiang Xi spread them back out.
“Don’t make a fist.”
Yi Yuexi: “Oh.”
Lu Liufeng glanced at him before speaking up.
“Master, you should eat. I’ll teach him.”
Jiang Xi considered it.
“Alright, it might be more convenient for you.”
Both had big hands—unlike her, who had to adjust each finger one by one.
She switched places with Lu Liufeng.
Lu Liufeng faced Yi Yuexi’s flickering fox-like eyes, then lowered his own gaze slightly, demonstrating his own chopstick grip for Yi Yuexi.
Yi Yuexi said another “Oh.”
But this one was much colder.
