Was the young lady a wizard?
Loren opened her eyes wide and stared at Fresa in stunned surprise.
âY-You became a wizard after being resurrected?â
As soon as Loren stammered out her hesitant question, Fresa broke into a bright, cheerful smile.
âWhat? Haha, no way. I got some help, that’s all. By the way, are you okay?â
âYes, I’m fine, but…â
âGet out of the way immediately! What on earth is going on here?â
Amy, who had collapsed on the floor, finally regained her senses and tried to stand up, pushing Fresa aside.
However, before her hand could reach, Fresa stepped on Eliasâ fallen body, firmly stomping on him as she descended to the ground.
âEek!â
Amy, who had missed her attempt, lost her balance and tumbled forward again.
Coincidentally, that was right where Elias was lying, and Amy fell right over him.
Fresa looked regretful as she glanced at the two siblings.
âOh, sorry. I didn’t realize youâd be standing there. Elias, are you okay?â
â…â
âDid I twist my jaw? I think I need to call a doctor, Amy.â
Despite knowing that Elias was feeling insulted and refusing to answer, Fresa clicked her tongue lightly.
âSorry, big brother!â
Amy hurriedly lifted her tangled dress and stood up.
Elias silently glared at Fresa, then slowly got to his feet.
Fresa greeted him with a bright smile and looked him in the eyes.
âFortunately, it looks like nothingâs broken.â
âWhat the heck is this, arrogant behavior?â
Elias asked in a voice brimming with suppressed anger.
But for Fresa, it was nothing more than a petty emotion.
Fresa, having lived as a Thorpe, was never truly afraid of them.
She had to pretend to be scared quite a bit, but just following her destined path made it bearable.
She could only endure for the inevitable ending.
However, in the end, she was entangled again, but this time she didn’t have to worry about the plausibility of the original story.
Because it was they who had first provoked Fresa.
Fresa crossed her arms and stared intently at Elias.
âYouâre the ones who attacked my people first. Iâm just giving you what you deserve.â
âHave you forgotten that our family belongs to us? The Thorpe family is in danger right now, and you dare to do this over just one maid…!â
âFamily? Itâs a bit late for us to be considered family.â
At that moment, the heavy sound of someone stomping down the stairs was heard.
Fresa didnât need to turn around to know who it was by their footsteps.
But Elias, Amy, and Loren all turned their gazes towards the stairs at the same time.
A figure in a dark uniform, descending the stairs slowly, was Lycaon, who naturally stood beside Fresa and spoke.
âSorry. Looks like the coordinates were off again. I almost got thrown in the trash.â
âDuke Granadine…â Elias muttered softly through a narrow gap in his teeth.
It seemed he hadnât expected Lycaon to come along, as his pupils flickered nervously.
Fresa looked up at Lycaon with a slight sigh.
I suppose I should tell Lord Cade to find another partner. The scrolls are not very reliable.
Trust that man? No way. From now on, Iâll just use magic myself or make scrolls.
Lycaon still needs more rest.
Overprotective.
Staff and patient management.
Fresa and Lycaon exchanged words as if they were only the two of them here.
Amy, possibly frightened, clung close behind Elias.
âB-Brother…â
Elias briefly glanced at Amy, then turned his gaze back to Fresa.
He brushed his disheveled red hair aside and calmly spoke.
âYou told me to come alone.â
âI did come alone. Lycaon came separately.â
Fresa retorted teasingly.
Itâs true I told him to come alone, but since Lycaon appeared later, it wasnât really together.
Elias looked displeased at Fresaâs teasing tone but forced himself to stay composed.
ââŠWell, Iâll forgive this much rudeness. Since youâre here, I assume youâre accepting my proposal.â
He seemed to have no intention of even showing politeness to Lycaon.
Fresa could easily guess why Elias behaved this way.
âHeâs looking down on Lycaon because he thinks Iâm easy.â
Thatâs why she was treated like this just by being near him.
But Fresa decided not to care too much.
After all, these were the kind of people they were and would continue to live as.
Trying to teach them would only be a waste of effort.
People like these respond better to money and power.
Fresa stared at Elias intently for a moment, then smiled kindly.
âI donât think so.â
âWhat… did you say?â
Amy blinked repeatedly in surprise.
Fresa glanced once at Lycaon.
Lycaon had been watching Fresa the entire time, and immediately made eye contact.
Since Lycaon had made a sort of promise with Fresa, he hadnât spoken a word to Elias and Amy.
He couldnât let Fresa go alone, so he came along; but after all, Lycaon was a member of the Empire, so he couldnât let himself get involved in unnecessary conflicts within the kingdom.
He was already wary enough; meddling too much in foreign affairs could be a big weakness.
âIâll stay quietly, even without you telling me.â
Lycaonâs eyes softened as if he read Fresaâs thoughts, and he silently smiled.
Fresa, who returned his smile, turned her head again.
âMiss…â
Loren, still looking shocked, was gazing at Fresa.
Fresa nodded slightly, signaling her to stay calm.
It was about time to wrap things up, as she no longer wanted to remain in this gloomy place.
She looked back at Elias and said clearly.
âIâve come back just to see you all fail.â
âWhat nonsense…â
Eliasâs face twisted into a mess as he silently stared at Fresa.
âSo, youâre saying you donât care if our family falls apart?â
Fresa finally couldnât hold back and burst into laughter.
Her light laughter echoed and reverberated inside the narrow prison cell, then quickly faded away.
âFresa!â
Elias called her sternly, like Count Sopf.
At last, Fresa slowly stopped smiling and looked directly at Elias.
âYou never once considered me as family, but now that you need money, suddenly you call me âweâ? I thought you had no conscience, but this is taking it too far.â
â…â
âBrother…â
Elias was speechless at Fresaâs icy words.
Amy, clinging to Elias, kept pleading for something to be done.
âQuiet, Amy.â
Elias looked down at Amy with cold eyes and roughly pushed her away.
âThe key to the prison isnât here anyway. What are you going to do? You know well that this cage is impervious to magic. If you donât pay, Iâll sell her as a slave.â
Elias lifted his chin and spoke arrogantly.
Indeed, the underground prison of the Sopf family was made from special materials that blocked magic.
But did Fresa really think she could come here without any plan?
She was the eldest, raised carefully and loved dearly within the Sopf family.
She always just watched from behind, feeling lonely all alone.
Knowing this was all a story in a novel didnât mean she didnât feel loneliness or unreceived love.
On the contrary, she felt sorry for the original Fresa Sopf.
From outside the story, as a reader, she could only see through the perspective of the protagonists, and all she ever thought was that Fresa Sopf was a foolish, one-dimensional villain.
A villain who loved the male protagonist too much, trampled on her familyâs honor, and envied and schemed against the gentle, beautiful heroine.
Maybe the reason Fresa was reborn in this novel was because she hoped at least one reader would understand her unfairness?
Anyone, really.
Fresa looked at Elias and Amy leisurely with her calm blue eyes.
Then she took out a small vial filled with red liquid from her cloak sleeve and spoke.
âUnfortunately, I never needed a key in the first place.â
