After finishing his schedule and boarding the ship heading to Paro Village, Lycaon felt uneasy.
He rested his arms on the railing and gazed at the increasingly distant port of the Empire.
“Such a nuisance.”
This summons was not the Emperor’s will.
It was because the higher nobles of the Empire, upon hearing about Lycaon’s engagement, had pressured the Emperor.
“Not that I didn’t expect it…”
Lycaon let out a slight sigh.
Beside him, Jed, who was standing tall and watching Lycaon carefully, cautiously spoke up.
“Your Majesty, please have patience.”
Lycaon glared at Jed with a cold smile.
“Have I not already endured enough? The problem is that they let go, thinking I was going to die.”
“Your Majesty…”
Jed looked visibly uneasy.
Lycaon was someone who didn’t show his emotions easily, but the calmer he was, the more likely a big incident would occur.
Jed knew this well, having stayed by Lycaon’s side since childhood.
“Don’t worry, Jed. I can still endure those disgusting old men a bit longer.”
Lycaon, softly saying this, furrowed his brow and looked out at the deep, blue sea.
It was a color that resembled Fresa’s eyes.
Just looking at it made his heart feel as if it was sinking to an unknown depth.
‘If I receive help in moderation…’
Fresa had been assertive from the beginning.
Even knowing that Lycaon was a duke of the Empire and a high-ranking noble, she refused his help.
Perhaps it was because of her strong personality that they could meet in the first place.
Although the poison dragon still flowed through his veins, it wasn’t as agonizing as before.
‘Now, though, it’s a different kind of torment…’
Lycaon still found Fresa intriguing.
But it was a different emotion from their first meeting.
He didn’t know how to define it, but one thing was certain.
He wanted to watch over Fresa closely.
And to do that, he needed to lead Fresa to come to the Empire, not Paro Village.
‘That won’t be easy.’
Fresa had just started expanding her business.
Lycaon believed she would certainly succeed in her contract with the guild.
So, it wasn’t the right time yet.
There were still many things Fresa needed to settle.
He would help her with her revenge, just as he promised, and watch over her from beside her.
Maybe this feeling…
Suddenly, the midday sun felt unbearably hot.
At that moment, the magic circle installed at Fresa’s mansion resonated faintly and clearly from this distant place.
“Looks like another filthy intruder has appeared.”
Lycaon furrowed his brows, looked up at the sky for a moment, and muttered suddenly.
“Jed, I’ll go ahead.”
“Huh?”
Jed was surprised and widened his eyes, but Lycaon’s figure had already disappeared long ago.
He had used teleportation magic alone, in a sneaky way, and vanished.
Left alone on the deck, Jed clenched his hair with both hands and gnashed his teeth.
After signing a contract with the guild to establish his own home, Fresa became very busy.
It also took quite some time to gather information about the World Tree.
He was so overwhelmed that even ten hands wouldn’t be enough.
Fortunately, Isaac sent a hefty deposit as soon as he returned to the kingdom.
Thanks to that, Fresa decided to hire two more staff members.
“I have Jed and Lycaon, but honestly, I don’t know how long they’ll be able to work.”
First, he posted an advertisement in the village newspaper, then purchased a luxurious new potion cabinet, a sales stand, and a signboard.
He spent all day cultivating herbs, making medicines, and carefully preparing items for delivery to the guild.
Moreover, thanks to word of mouth, visits from outsiders to Paro Village increased.
Their main purpose was to visit <Resa’s Pharmacy>.
Many people queued from opening until closing time.
Some even signed up on the reservation list and left empty-handed.
Thanks to this, Fresa had to get a new safe.
Anyway, everything was going smoothly and in a good direction, so he didn’t have time to worry about the characters from the original story.
He felt it was a waste to spend time on such trivial humans, anyway.
‘Since they aren’t taking any notable action either, what can I do?’
Lost in his busy work, it was already time to close the pharmacy.
Once again, Lycaon and Jed hadn’t returned.
Three days had already passed since they left, and it irritated Fresa that Lycaon hadn’t even contacted her.
After tidying up the pharmacy and preparing a simple dinner, he decided to make medicines for the next day’s sale.
He was about to pick some cucumbers from the garden to make a cold dish when someone appeared unexpectedly.
A handsome man with striking white hair, beautiful purple eyes, and tall stature.
The only person Fresa knew who looked like that was just one.
“Lycaon?”
Fresa widened her eyes and looked at Lycaon.
Lycaon was dragging someone by the nape of the neck, holding him roughly.
It was someone with bright red hair, whose face was familiar.
Fresa grimaced and muttered his name.
“Jerome?”
Lycaon threw him in front of Fresa like a piece of luggage and laughed.
“I’m back.”
“What’s going on…?”
Before Fresa could even grasp the situation, Jerome was wheezing and crawling toward her, babbling incoherently.
Fresa recoiled in horror, fearing his touch.
She looked at Lycaon, silently urging him to explain quickly.
Lycaon slowly took off his pristine white gloves and said.
“I’ve been spying on you like a rat. So I caught him.”
“That’s not it… What happened to you? Don’t tell me you said not to say anything!”
Jerome kept rambling excuses, then pressed Fresa to say something.
Fresa’s expression turned cold as she realized this human still saw her as an easy target.
“Because I’ve changed my mind. But why are you here again?”
“You, you, your words… are getting shorter…”
Jerome arrogantly pointed at Fresa, trying to act as her big brother.
Lycaon pinched his finger and looked at Fresa.
“I could break it.”
“Y-You…!”
Jerome flailed in horror.
Fresa watched him helplessly, a look of disappointment on her face, then let out a sigh.
“It’s okay, Lycaon. And I think I understand why you’re here.”
Lycaon slightly showed a disappointed expression and released Jerome’s hand.
Fresa lowered her gaze and met Jerome’s eyes.
“Elias sent you, right?”
“That’s…”
“Did he hear I was alive and tell you to come see what I was doing here?”
“…”
Jerome glanced nervously at Fresa and nodded very slightly.
“People have been talking about you. That you developed some incredible medicine. It seems you’ve made quite a bit of money…”
“Be quiet.”
Lycaon interrupted with a frown.
He probably watched Fresa’s pharmacy all day long, trying to find out what she was doing to survive here.
“Jerome, go and tell everything you saw and heard.”
Fresa said with a sly smile. Jerome looked confused but didn’t miss the chance to sneak away hurriedly.
“Maybe you’ll get involved in trouble soon.”
Lycaon muttered, feigning concern.
Fresa expected this reaction.
“I can cast a spell to erase your memories.”
“Lycaon, you’re still recovering. The more you use magic, the faster the poison dragon flows through your veins. Well, it’s as you wished, after all.”
Fresa replied casually, plucking two perfectly ripe cucumbers and placing them in a basket.
“Are you thinking of something else?”
Observant as always, Lis, who was quietly watching the situation, seemed curious about what Fresa was thinking.
Fresa shrugged and continued.
“Honestly, I’ve had a dream I’ve wanted to achieve for a long time.”
“A dream you want to achieve?”
“To have the people who troubled me kneel and beg at my feet. Now, I’m the only one left from the Thorpe family. It’s certain they’ll come looking for me soon.”
Since she decided to give back what she’d received, she wanted to see those things she’d imagined come true in reality.
The Thorpe family already knew Fresa was alive.
But they didn’t know she had succeeded in her business.
How would they react if they found out?
“It’ll be a bother, but it’s actually a good opportunity to see their true nature.”
Usually, in revenge stories, the female protagonist kneels and pleads at the feet of her enemies.
From now on, the story here would unfold as Fresa envisioned, not according to the writer’s predetermined plot.
Of course, the proud siblings of the Thorpe family wouldn’t make such a choice easily.
But in the end, they would end up kneeling and begging.
Just as Fresa did in the original story, kneeling and begging from the ground.
With a bright expression, Fresa turned to look at Lycaon.
“I’m thinking of making cucumber cold dishes for dinner. Would you like to join?”
Lycaon, who had been looking at the direction where Jerome disappeared with an inscrutable expression, finally met Fresa’s gaze.
And without any hesitation, he nodded.
“Of course.”
“You have no idea how busy I’ve been without Lycaon and Jed.”
“Sounds like you have quite a few things to talk about.”
“Of course. Oh, by the way, I haven’t seen Jed.”
Fresa, chatting away, looked back at Lycaon as she entered the mansion.
Lycaon, who had quietly followed her, simply replied.
“Jed will be a bit late because he’s on the ship.”
“Did you come alone again by magic?”
“I didn’t want to waste the talent I was born with.”
Lycaon smiled shamelessly.
Poor Jed.
Whispering to herself, Fresa quickly closed the front door as Lycaon entered.
