Chapter 45

Accidents During Class Are Everyday

‘Hmm. The saint has tremendous mana, but it’s such a waste.

It’s like trying to write with a fine tip, but instead, using a huge brush and slathering on a bunch of paint. Her mana leaks everywhere in the wrong direction.

Deceptive magic doesn’t suit her. But control-type magic should work fine.

She can overwhelm with her sheer mana.

Still, to really improve her skills in the long run, she’ll need to be able to finely tune her magic too.’

‘On the other hand, this girl, Isolde?

Her overall proficiency is quite impressive.

She must have been learning magic for a long time. Mesmerize magic would require illegal practices if learned outside the academy.

She’s been studying magic by breaking the law.

She’s definitely determined.’

‘Fiona. This one… her magic style resembles that of a Vatican envoy, doesn’t it?’

Cardinals in the Triune Church run their own elite force of knights and select the most capable to become envoys.

These envoys become location hunters, tracking down and hunting down rogue mages or spying for the Church.

Interestingly, the magic Fiona uses strongly smells like that of an envoy.

‘The saint’s magic can also be classified into the same school as the envoys, but she’s not as skilled as this one. Interesting. Now, what’s left is…’

Sadia frowned as she observed Idnia’s spell.

“Would it be possible for you to try again, Idnia?”

“Ah… Is there something wrong?”

“The duration expired while I was watching the other students’ magic.”

A low-level command spell makes the target obey a single word.

Usually, the command “drop it” is used to make the target drop something like a wand or weapon during combat.

It’s not difficult to use, but it consumes valuable time and mental energy for something so simple.

One cast of this spell is already enough to drain time, making it difficult to analyze.

“Alright. How about this? Would it be okay, Bolson?”

“Ah, yes. It’s fine. Please go ahead.”

Bolson got ready again.

“Command, drop it!”

Idnia cast the low-level command spell.

Bolson immediately dropped the wand he was holding.

But it didn’t stop there—he started rummaging through his pockets, throwing his wallet and dagger to the ground along with everything he had.

“Ha…”

Sadia couldn’t help but marvel.

Normally, a low-level command spell only makes the target drop the wand, but Idnia’s magic clearly surpassed the typical duration for such a spell.

She completely controlled Bolson’s nervous system, causing him to drop not only the wand but all his valuables.

‘She didn’t even modify the spell to extend its duration? Incredible.

As far as spell structuring goes, Isolde might be more skilled, but Idnia’s magic… it’s like hitting the most vulnerable part of the body.

She understands the nervous system so well.’

Sadia analyzed Idnia’s magic and marveled at her mastery.

While Isolde was good at magic itself, Idnia’s spells showed a complete understanding of the target’s body, like an expert surgeon.

Even with magic arrows, some people might just shoot them at the torso, but Idnia could make them fly into the nostrils or the mouth, targeting the most precise spot.

“Impressive… Have you ever dissected a person?”

“Ah, no.”

Idnia shuddered as Sadia analyzed her magic.

She had never actually dissected a body, but she had studied physiology, chemistry, and anatomy while working at a bio-tech company.

‘Well, I did study anatomy, but I’m not licensed as a doctor, and I’ve never done dissection practice, so that’s the proper answer.

Still, compared to anatomy books from Earth, the knowledge I gained here is nothing compared to that.
Scary.

Sadia really sees through everything.

How does she detect it just from a simple low-level spell?’

Idnia felt a fear that Sadia might be able to see through her past life.

“Idnia, Isolde, Fiona. You three will receive 1 point each.”

Sadia awarded points to the girls who successfully performed the low-level command spell.

“Now, it’s the boys’ turn. We’ll stick with the ‘drop it’ command for everyone. Let’s cast it right away!”

The boys all cast the spell simultaneously.
Bolson, too, cast it on Idnia.
But the spell was too difficult for him, and he failed while trying to structure it.

“Ugh?!”

A spark flew from the tip of Bolson’s wand, and he staggered backward.

“Total failure. I’m sorry.”

“No. Hmm, may I give some advice?”

“Yes? Lady Idnia?”

“Yes. First, you should practice structuring the spell. Only perform the incantation once the structure is complete.
The moment you speak the incantation, the spell starts pulling in the structure, causing the magic to trigger.
What happened now was that the spell structure wasn’t complete, but the incantation activated the protective function in the wand, causing it to discharge its mana.”

“Oh, that’s a problem… The wand’s durability is now slightly worn.”

“That’s fine. It’s not a serious issue. Just be careful while using it. Let’s try again.”

Idnia helped Bolson with his magic, explaining why he failed and how to reduce mistakes.

This teamwork was making everyone’s skills improve, fulfilling the purpose of working in pairs.

‘Hmm. This is nice. It’s clear that love beyond the barriers of status is starting… but there’s no real possibility of that happening, is there?

The boy seems to like the girl, but the girl doesn’t care about him at all.

Sigh. How innocent. How pleasant to watch.

I’m tempted to give them points, but maybe it’s not appropriate.’

Sadia felt pleased seeing how well Idnia was taking care of Bolson.

“Professor! I managed to perform the spell!”

“Oh, yes.”

Sadia looked over the boys’ progress.

Lorenzo from Notos, Carl from Boreas, Atos from Euros, and Percyfaire succeeded.

However, Crown Prince Rudolf seemed to have had a bad matchup, and although he cast the spell properly, it was resisted.

Mari from Astraea had remarkable anti-magic resistance.

‘Hmm, those from the ruling families have all learned their magic well. Crown Prince Rudolf, though just as skilled as Isolde, had a bad matchup.’

Mari had such high mana that she was in a constant state similar to using Protection magic.

She had purposely let Idnia handle the extraction during the class to maintain the average, while she stopped just above the average.

In contrast, the other students, who had drained their mana during the morning’s extraction competition, couldn’t resist Mari’s magic, and the spell was countered.

“Hmm, I didn’t want to give points to those who had pre-learned the material… but seeing them hide their abilities is irritating, so I’ll give points.
Lorenzo from Notos, Carl from Boreas, Atos from Euros, and Percyfaire each receive 1 point.”

Sadia awarded the points and projected another spell structure on the chalkboard.

“Next, I’ll teach you this spell.
It’s a lower-level command, but this one is a control-type, not a deceptive one. It’s much easier, so as long as you have strong mana, you’ll succeed. However, it consumes far more mana than a deceptive spell, so be prepared for that.”

“Now, ladies! Cast the spell!”

“Yes!”

The girls cast their spells all at once.

‘Hmm, this is tiring.’

Idnia, having drained her mana during the extraction competition, cautiously cast the control-type low-level command spell.

She only imbued a little mana, but Bolson couldn’t resist and dropped everything he was holding.

But then…

“Ah! This is bad!”
“Ah?!”

A commotion suddenly erupted.

Control-type low-level command spells work by forcibly implanting the command directly into the target’s brain.
The structure is simple, and if the caster has enough mana, it’s easy to control the target.

However, this also makes it easy for the target to resist since they can feel the mental intrusion.

In contrast, deceptive spells give the target the sensation of hearing a voice in their mind, making them believe it’s coming from within or from some divine being.

But with control-type magic, once the spell is cast, the target knows who’s casting it and what command is being given.

With this difference, resistance is triggered, and the target can fight back with everything they have.

‘With the skill in deceptive magic, Isolde from Zephyrus, Fiona from Notos, and Idnia from Euros should easily succeed.’

As expected, three of the girls easily succeeded with the spell.
The problem was with Mari from Astraea, the saint candidate.

“Myunghanoni, drop it!”

“Ugh!”

When Crown Prince Rudolf was hit by Mari’s mental wave, it felt like fireworks exploded inside his brain.
It was as if he was inside the center of a fireworks display, and his surroundings flashed with intense force that overpowered him.

He tried to resist, but Mari’s mana was too strong.

Crown Prince Rudolf dropped his wand and even threw away his precious pocket watch and wallet.

But Mari’s command grew louder.
What else should he drop?

  • “Is this my son?”

Suddenly, Emperor Franz’s cold gaze flashed in Rudolf’s mind.

  • “Hmm…”

The Emperor smiled as he watched his son.

  • “I wish to build the great empire of a thousand years.
You, my son, shall be its foundation.
But if you lack the strength…
You must forfeit your life and step aside for the one who will take your place.”

Rudolf shivered as he recalled the memory of his father.
The images and stories didn’t exist in his mind, yet as he turned, he saw countless broken puppets stacked up—other versions of himself.

The moment his eyes met those empty eyes, he screamed and recoiled.

In his panic, Rudolf bumped into something.
Turning around, he saw young Idnia Betelgeuse, looking coldly at him.

“Your Highness, I’ll return the excessive gift and the excessive engagement.”

Just like when she declared their engagement broken all those years ago…

But this time, she added a new line.

“And you, too, cannot bear the position of the Crown Prince of the Empire.”

“Ah… Aaahh!”

Crown Prince Rudolf screamed as something inside him began to stir.
Suddenly, intense mana surged from him, shaking off the lower-level command spell.

The space around him twisted as pure mana swirled.
