Chapter 68
“Eunji? The name sounds kind of weird.”
Kaiden said that, but Eunji seemed to like it. Clinging to my leg and rubbing against it, she made a huge fuss as if she were thrilled.
Still, the cold sensation of scales brushing against my leg was far too unfamiliar.
“Eek!”
Startled, I reflexively lifted my leg, and as a result Eunji was flung onto the ground.
Panicking, I forgot all about the scaly texture and quickly scooped her up with both hands.
“Are you okay? I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose—I was just startled.”
The little creature lay on my palm as if unconscious, then peeked around before wobbling as she lifted her body.
From the looks of it, she wasn’t injured at all—it felt like she was just pretending to be hurt.
“…Why are you pretending to be knocked out? You scared me!”
Even after being scolded, she simply smiled brightly and flopped back down on my palm.
“That’s really strange.”
Kaiden, who had been quietly watching the two of us, propped his chin on his hand and spoke.
“Can you understand what this snake is trying to say? I have no idea what she’s doing, but you look like you do.”
Only then did I realize it—I had been sensing Eunji’s emotions.
How could anyone tell whether a snake was happy or not just by looking at its expressionless face?
And yet, right now, I could vaguely grasp what she was feeling.
“Doesn’t this mean she really is a monster that’s imprinted on you?”
Even at Kaiden’s words, Eunji lay calmly on my palm, completely at ease.
“If you say so… then I guess that’s what it is?”
Honestly, there wasn’t any other explanation that made sense in this situation.
If she was a monster imprinted on me and recognized me as her master, then at least she wouldn’t harm me.
That was a relief. I was a little curious about what Enoch would say if he saw her, though.
“Alright, let’s go for now.”
I tucked Eunji into the pocket of my dress. She wriggled around, then poked her head out of the pocket.
After gently patting the pocket, I headed back to the cabin with Kaiden.
Everyone must be worried, so we needed to hurry.
But unfortunately, the problem lay elsewhere.
While we were gone, the cabin had been completely trashed.
