Chapter 52

As Kanin screamed in pain, the black-robed agent calmly picked up the documents scattered on the floor.

Kanin’s eyes widened as if they would rip apart.

“N-No! Stop!”

It was the final plan he had so confidently presented.

He absolutely couldn’t let it be taken.

That file was filled with sensitive information related to Sinion—and even worse, something that must never be exposed!

With a sudden surge of desperate courage, Kanin lunged forward with a punch. The black agent dodged it easily.

“Wow, you really need to work out~”

He kicked Kanin to the ground and pressed down on him with his foot.

“Your speech is trash, your body’s trash… You’re useless, old man.”

“Guh… khak!”

“Remember this. When someone’s that pretty and that much of a genius, you should be praising and worshipping her.”

“Kghh! Aaargh!”

“Go relearn from your parents. Oh wait, you’ll have to be reborn first. Hahaha.”

Still stepping on Kanin, the agent casually skimmed through the documents. Then, he bent his back gracefully.

With a sharp whistle—

A man was sent flying, his sword missing its mark. He belonged to Sinion’s forces.

“Hand… over the document…!”

The black agent’s eyes narrowed slyly. His laughter was full of mockery.

“Sinion’s knights and their famous unique thrusting sword techniques. Quite well-known, aren’t they?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

The black agent tapped the sword with the document. Even though the sword wasn’t made for thrusting, the form had been perfect.

“I thought you were just some grunt. But you’re a higher-up?”

“Stop talking nonsense.”

“I’ve dealt with plenty of you before. You’re all the same.”

Just as the black agent said, the man from Sinion was indeed a high-ranking knight. He was also an earth mage—skilled and powerful.

“This ends here!”

The knight, showing off his elegant swordplay, stomped his foot intentionally.

The floor collapsed, trying to trap the black agent’s feet.

“I’ll finish this.”

But the agent didn’t panic. He simply dropped to one knee and avoided the sword aimed at his throat.

“Reminds me of the old days. I was constantly being ambushed at night—those were rough times.”

With a burst of strength, the agent freed his foot, crouched low, and then gracefully leapt back.

“Unemployment really is the best. Don’t you think, buddy?”

As the agent closed the distance, the knight from Sinion flinched.

“Who the hell are you…?!”

“See you later~”

The black agent’s eyes narrowed to slits.

“From behind bars, maybe?”

Just for a moment, the knight replayed those words in his mind—and finally figured out his identity.

The Black Family.

But it was already too late. The knight instinctively dodged. A black scorch mark burned into the spot his foot had just been.

He should’ve realized it sooner.

‘Damn it, a lightning mage…!’

But again—it was already too late.

Boom!

The knight’s head slammed into the ground with a sickening thud. Blood gushed from his mouth as he lost consciousness.

The black agent silently stared at the blood on his hand.

‘So red.’

That was dangerous. Sometimes, his madness was triggered by the sight of blood.

“It’s just a matter of perception. Just because I see blood doesn’t mean I have to recall only the bad.”

In therapy and regular checkups, they’d said this was a habit of the brain. Something that could be changed.

That the illness would slowly get better.

“Here. I bought this when I went out with Dad. Pretty, right? It’s red too!”

She had handed him a red paper flower—beautiful and vibrant, just like her face.

“And when Byu smiles, her cheeks turn red too. Red things can be happy too, okay, Uncle?”

Now, when he saw something red, he tried to think of that instead.

The black agent covered his face and laughed.

“Ha.”

Did she even realize how powerful her playful little words were?

That fragile, innocent niece of his—did she know just how much she had saved him?

She had become someone neither he nor his son could imagine life without.

He thought of his recently cheerful son, and the reason he smiled—Byu.

“Hey? Hey!!”

Another voice snapped him out of it. The other black-robed man, Biryang, stood slouched, pointing at the room.

“Why aren’t you listening? I thought you’d gone catatonic! Everything’s ready—ugh!”

“That title’s annoying.”

“You! It’s all done, okay? Okay! You good now?!”

They had agreed not to use the word ‘hyung’ (big brother), but now he was acting all equal. He gave his younger brother a swift punishment.

“Ugh, it’s time. Let’s go already. But why hasn’t that woman he mentioned shown up yet?”

Aside from the two men, only Kanin was awake in the room. He was frozen in fear.

‘A senior knight of Sinion…’

That knight had been a high-ranking officer. And yet, these people had toyed with him like a child and knocked him out.

Then it happened.

Creak—

The window opened.

Kanin turned his head—and saw a familiar face.

“Well, hello there. Made it just in time, huh?”

Bright red hair and a smiling face, completely unhidden.

It was Jeok Yoon-ha.

“Ahahaha, Kanin? You look hilarious!”

“Y-You…!”

As Jeok Yoon-ha clutched her stomach and laughed heartily, Kanin was flooded with unbearable humiliation.

Everything had been going perfectly—so why now?!

But the laughter didn’t last long. Jeok Yoon-ha’s eyes gleamed.

“An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth.”

She pointed toward the room.

“Hey, cool warrior guys? Everything’s ready. Go wild.”

Jeok Yoon-ha flashed a grin.

“You’re going to pay back every penny of the damages you caused.”

I’m not going to be the only one who loses out, you know?

Rumble—

A sound that shouldn’t have existed in this space filled the air. Jeok Yoon-ha spread her palm wide.

A fierce flame burst into life from her hand.

Boom!

Lightning struck throughout the building. It was divine punishment in every sense.

Soon, the entire structure was ablaze.

Of course, the fire had been her doing.

It was a stylish ending—one that neatly erased any trace of the lightning magic.

Jeok Yoon-ha looked down at the unconscious Kanin and smiled faintly.

“Try pulling that again next time.”

You’ll get it worse, I promise.

Because now… I’ve got some very reliable allies.

* * *

A short break.

I slurped my tea.

‘By now… everything should be over, right?’

A few minutes into my next consultation, a patient burst in, face flushed with excitement.

“Doctor, did you hear? There was a huge fire in the marketplace today!”

The patient sounded oddly thrilled.

“But what’s strange is—it only burned one building, and didn’t touch any of the ones next to it…!”

Apparently, the owner of the burned building was a notorious thug who constantly harassed fellow merchants, commoners, and even innocent foreigners.

“The owner barely escaped. According to someone from the next shop, he looked totally insane. Hah! Maybe there really is such a thing as divine punishment.”

I glanced over at my dad, who sat indifferently beside me—and then smiled brightly.

“Yes. Seems like divine punishment really does exist.”

The kind my uncle dishes out, anyway.

Looks like the joint operation between Uncle, Dad, and Jeok Yoon-ha had gone smoothly.

‘Just as I expected.’

Black Agent (Uncle) may have disappeared quickly in the original novel, but even the female lead’s dad, Biryang, was powerful and full of useful skills.

I thought back to a few days ago.

“Wait, you wanna come with us? How is that even possible?”

Four days ago, I was supposed to head to the clinic with Dad and Assistant Brother.

That was the day the new clinic sign was going up—I had been really looking forward to it.

But then, two men who hadn’t been around for days—my uncle and dad’s younger brother—suddenly popped up and insisted on coming with us.

Weren’t they under house arrest?
