Episode 2 – The Gacha Game Begins
She stared blankly at the golden rabbit statue, then looked down at the piece of paper in her hand with the same dazed expression.
Written on it was:
One Free Summon Ticket.
The moment she saw it, her palms got sweaty.
It was a system she knew too well.
Now she understood exactly what kind of “game ability” the god had given her.
Her thoughts raced.
“This is!”
The huge golden rabbit statue was decorated so extravagantly that it looked like it could empty your bank account.
She could feel it just one press of that front paw and ultra-rare, super-special characters would come flooding out.
But she also knew the moment you pressed it, it would most likely spit out trash.
That’s right.
It was the betrayal gacha.
Her realization:
“I’ve been given game powers. And the genre is a character summoning game.”
Out of all possible game types, it had to be a mobile gacha game, the kind that drains your wallet.
In these games, if you want a specific character, you throw money at it.
If you’re lucky, you might get something good.
But most of the time you end up broke and disappointed.
Just like how the casino always wins in the end.
She understood the system instantly.
“My 5 years of playing completely free have taught me well.”
She was a pure free-to-play (F2P) player, through and through.
While studying for the civil service exam, she couldn’t afford to spend money on games.
So, she would read one page of her book, press auto-hunt in the game, read another page, and press auto-hunt again.
She worked harder than anyone to keep up with paying players.
She ranked in the top 10 of her server without spending a single coin
and failed the civil service exam in return.
That’s why the god of beauty chose her.
God’s reasoning:
“A pure no-lifer like her could spread my religion far and wide!”
She never gave in to temptation.
To her, summons were sacred.
She was the only Korean who used 3-star characters that people called “trash” and still made it to the top.
Now she stared at the ticket in her hand.
Her mind panicked.
“R-Resetting… Wait, no! This isn’t a game I can uninstall and start over!”
In mobile games, you usually get one free premium summon at the start.
So players keep deleting and reinstalling until they pull a good unit.
That process is called “Rerolling” or in Japanese, “Risemara.”
It was a trick every veteran player knew.
Maybe the god knew too, maybe that’s why he gave her just one free pull.
But this was reality, not a game.
No take-backs. No retries.
You can’t die and start over again.
Her (desperate):
“Ugh… why this genre of all things?!”
Why not a strategy?
Why not romance?
Why not training sims?
Why did it have to be the one that destroys your finances?!
Still she had no choice.
She needed a helper to survive in this world.
The golden rabbit statue suddenly spoke in a cutesy voice:
[Press my paw to summon an ancient hero~☆]
Her (thinking):
“Shut up, you devil rabbit! I’ll summon you, alright?!”
She tried to stay calm.
Her: “Focus… I have to focus.”
This was it.
She had to pull.
The summon ticket glowed with temptation.
She stood before the golden rabbit statue.
It looked like you had to insert the ticket into its mouth and press the front paw.
Her: “Where’s my phone? Ah. Right. I don’t have one anymore.”
She instinctively looked for her phone, forgetting it was gone.
“So this is freedom from auto-hunting… huh.”
Old habits die hard.
She sat on the bed and took a deep breath.
This was the meditation every true gamer did before summoning.
Her thoughts:
“It’s my first pull. I don’t even know what’s good or bad here.
So, this is the calmest I’ll ever be.
No greed, no expectations. Just peace.”
She inhaled deeply through her nose and exhaled slowly from her mouth.
Then, with a serene heart, she pressed the rabbit’s front paw.
Clunk!
The golden rabbit’s belly began to spin.
It felt like destiny.
Her heart raced.
A chill crawled up her spine, as if her body was about to short-circuit.
And then
[Super Ultra Mega Special Rare—!!]
The rabbit’s belly opened. A glowing orb rolled out.
As she picked it up
A portal burst open!
[5-Star Ancient Hero Appears—!]
Her eyes widened.
A 5-star?!
That’s an insanely rare pull in games like this!
Lights exploded around her.
The music swelled.
She stood frozen in shock.
Her: “I… I got a 5-star on my first pull?!”
The sound was dazzling.
“So, what kind of hero did I get?”
She squinted through the light.
A figure stepped out, backlit by glowing energy.
Her heart pounded with excitement.
What kind of hero would appear to help her?
“This is a fantasy world, so a great mage? A sword-wielding warrior? An elf archer?”
So many gacha characters flashed through her mind.
And then
POOF!
Out stepped a man in a black suit.
Man (bowing):
“It is an honor to serve you, my master.”
[Legendary Hero Butler!
Once defeated the Demon King, and now works as a loyal servant—]
[Villain Attribute: Radelk!]
The man took her hand.
His white hair swayed in the breeze.
He had a cold, emotionless aura as if he had no color or warmth at all.
He knelt and kissed the back of her hand.
Radelk: “I have come at your call, Master.”
Her (stunned):
“W-What the… I can’t move”
A hero who defeated the Demon King
And then became a butler?
What kind of ridiculous life story is that?!
Before she could say anything, Radelk turned to look at the rabbit statue.
The rabbit spoke again:
Your free summon has ended.
To summon more, gather Faith Points~!
More faith = more summons~!
Okay then! Bye-bye~!]
