Chapter 7 Youâre Really Bold, Arenât You
The air seemed frozen in place.
Nan Xiaoâs knee was pressed against his hard abdomen, one hand braced against his firm chest, the other covering his eyes. Hovering above him, she panted softly.
She had planned to get off him immediately, but when he suddenly barked âDonât move!â she truly didnât dare move.
Her mind was still a little blank, mixed with grievance.
Clearly, she was the one who had been run into head-on. She was the one shivering with goosebumps as bare skin met cold air.
She hadnât taken advantage of the situationâshe only wanted to leave as quickly as possible.
So why had Xie Chengyu yelled at her?
Thinking this, she bit her lip slightly, feeling she couldnât just let his scolding stand.
Softly, she said, âClose your eyes. Iâll leave right away.â
After speaking, Nan Xiao cautiously lifted her hand. Seeing his eyes tightly shut, lashes trembling faintly, jaw taut, she quickly got off him and dashed toward the bedroom.
Still lying on the floor, Xie Chengyu gasped heavily.
Hearing the slam of the bedroom door closing, he pushed himself upright, looked down past his belt, and his face darkened.
Inside the bedroom, Nan Xiao hurried to calm her pounding heart, put on clothes, and carefully adjusted her mask.
In the mirror, after confirming nothing was out of place, she finally stepped outside.
She had already spoken with her doctorâthough her face was healed, the tender new skin couldnât be exposed to air yet. She needed to wear a mask for another three months.
When she entered the living room and saw Xie Chengyu again, both felt awkward.
In three years of marriage, he had never once returned home. Now, on the rare occasion he did, it had to be during such an embarrassing scene. Neither felt at ease.
Nan Xiao turned her back to him, asking casually, âWhy are you here?â
Xie Chengyu replied flatly, âTo move some things.â
Nan Xiao paused.
Just as she was about to ask what he was moving, he noticed the open suitcase lying on the bedroom floor. Lifting his eyes to her, he asked,
âYouâre moving out?â
Nan Xiao nodded, her heart heavy with bitterness.
He was divorcing her. How could she still stay here?
âYou didnât read the divorce agreement?â Xie Chengyu said. âThis house belongs to you.â
Nan Xiao was shocked. She quickly protested, âNo, thatâs too expensiveâŠâ
This villa was worth 150 million yuan. She could never earn that much in her lifetime!
And the Xie family had already given her plenty of money. Holding onto so many assets felt scorching hot in her hands.
Xie Chengyu gave her a strange look.
In their circle, whether man or woman, the weaker party in a divorce would scrape the other clean if they could.
Why was she backing away?
âDonât think too much.â
His voice turned sharper, firmer.
âIf I give it to you, you take it.â
Years of power and authority had carved that unquestionable tone into his words.
Nan Xiao had been ready to argue.
But suddenly she realizedâin three years, only she had ever lived here. Every corner of the house carried traces of her life. Xie Chengyu would never come here in the future. Leaving this house to her was simply another form of disposal.
Her eyes lowered. âThen you go ahead and pack. Iâll go out.â
At the time of their wedding, some of Xie Chengyuâs personal belongings had been moved here, but not many. He would pack quickly. Nan Xiao thought to walk outside, then return when he was done.
As she left, Xie Chengyuâs gaze lingered on her back for a long moment before finally pulling away.
This woman wore a mask year-round. When looking at her, oneâs eyes were drawn instinctively to her ownâalways watery, luminous, as if they could pull someone straight in.
Abruptly, he remembered that moment earlierâthe warm, soft body colliding into his arms, the slippery smoothness against his palm. His body heated instantly, his abdomen tightening.
Muttering a low curse, he pulled out clothes left from three years ago and went straight to the bathroom for a cold shower.
Outside, Nan Xiao wandered the garden. Suddenly, her phone rang.
She answered, only to hear Old Master Xieâs furious voice on the other end.
âYou child! How dare you do such a thing! Get back here at once!â
Confused, but unable to defy him, Nan Xiao returned to the old residence.
For three years, Old Master Xie had treated her kindly. He often bought her things. When her stepmother and stepsister once made a scene at the villa, he had been the one to drive them away.
Stepping inside the old house, she saw Old Master Xie sitting in his grand chair, glaring at her in anger.
Nan Xiao was about to speak when he slammed the armrest and roared:
âYou two are really bold! How dare you divorce! Iâve already sent someone to withdraw your divorce application from the Civil Affairs Bureau. You are not leaving the Xie family. That little actress Xu will never set foot through our doors!â
