~Chapter 66~
Normally, Evangeline might look at someone with disdain, but she never raised her voice like that.
She had always been seen as cold, noble, and arrogant, the type to look down on others.
âThis is the first time Iâve seen the Lady get angry so sincerelyâŠâ
Seraphina gulped without realizing.
âJust what do you think youâre doing?!â
âI-IâŠâ
Seraphina couldnât even open her mouth to respond.
She had always felt inferior to Evangeline, but this time, she had truly made a mistake.
Yet Evangeline didnât even give her a chance to explain.
âJust wait and see.â
Evangeline glared sharply.
âIâm not going to let this go.â
Seraphina felt a chill go down her spine.
Evangeline, still furious, grabbed Laritteâs arm and turned away.
âLetâs go to my house.â
âHuh?â
âYou need to get checked by a doctor, clean up, and change clothes.â
âHuh?â
Laritte was too shocked to say anything else.
But Evangeline pulled her along with firm steps.
The other ladies followed, unsure what to do.
âLady Ansie, oh my goodness!â
âWhat should we doâŠ!â
Meanwhile, Lady Sanchez tried to quietly slip back into the group.
âLady Sanchez, do you not know your place?â
Evangeline snapped like she had eyes in the back of her head.
âHow dare you even think of following me.â
âW-what? Lady, I didnât meanâŠâ
âStay where I canât see you. I donât even want to look at you.â
Sanchez shrank back, unable to say anything.
And with that, Evangeline took Laritte and left.
Lady Sherwood walked over to Lady Sanchez.
âLady Sanchez.â
Lady Sanchez flinched like she had been slapped.
Lady Sherwood smiled faintly.
âYou donât need to come to the next meeting.â
It was a clear expulsion from the group.
Lady Sanchezâs face turned ashen.
âLady Sherwood, wait!â
She ran after her, and only Seraphina was left behind.
âWhat have I doneâŠ?â
She looked down at the vase in her hands.
Half the water had spilled out.
She had almost drenched Evangeline with it.
Thanks to Laritte, that disaster was avoidedâŠ
âThe Lady⊠truly turned her back on me.â
Seraphina felt dizzy.
A while later, a man walked confidently into the chapel.
His light brown hair fell gently across his forehead.
He had soft sky-blue eyes, clean features, and wore a neat priestâs robe.
He looked like a saint from heaven.
A priest looked surprised and called out,
âHigh Priest Evans?â
Isaac Evans â the youngest High Priest in history and beloved by all the senior clergy.
The startled priest asked cautiously,
âWhy are you here, sir? Didnât you decline the meeting request earlier from Lady Claudius?â
Isaac raised one finger to his lips.
âShhh.â
His sky-blue eyes landed on Seraphina, still standing in a daze.
Isaac stared at her for a long while.
âHmm.â
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
âInteresting.â
I didnât even know how I ended up at the Claudius townhouse.
On the way to the room, the Lady kept asking me with a worried face,
âAre you okay?â
By the way, I think she asked me that like five times alreadyâin the carriage too.
I replied lifelessly,
âIâm fineâŠâ
âHow can you say youâre fine?â
The Lady frowned at me.
âWait, werenât you the one who just asked if I was okay?â
I gave her a tired look.
âYouâre soaked. Thereâs no way youâre fine.â
Since she looked so frantic, I just kept quiet.
âJust wait a moment. Iâll call the doctor. Okay?â
She really wanted to get a doctor⊠for this?
I hesitated,
âI really am okay thoughâŠâ
âStill! You never know! If your body tenses up too much, you could get sick later!â
The Lady kept talking in a worried rush.
Honestly, I was a little embarrassed.
Itâs not like I got into a carriage accident. It was just a bit of water.
Thenâ
âEva?â
A smooth, pleasant voice called out.
Turning around, I saw the Duke, looking at us curiously.
âI thought you went to the temple. Why are you back so soon⊠wait.â
His eyes narrowed.
âWhy is Lady Ansie all wet?â
âWhy? Because of Lady Lopez, of course!â
Evangeline snapped.
âLady Lopez?â the Duke asked, frowning.
âShe almost splashed me with water! But Lady Ansie jumped in the way!â
The Lady kept ranting, then paused and shook her head.
âNever mind, Iâll explain later. I need to get her to the doctor first.â
âDoctor? Why?â
The Dukeâs expression grew serious.
âDid Lady Ansie get hurt?â
âNo! Iâm not hurt!â
Feeling like the situation was getting out of hand, I quickly jumped in.
âI just got a little wetâŠâ
âEven so. If you catch a cold, it could be serious.â
âHuh?â
But the Duke was already nodding toward the Lady.
âTake Lady Ansie to the doctor right away.â
âSee? Even my brother agrees with me!â
The Lady then dragged me inside.
My eyes were wide with panic.
âSeriously⊠Iâm fine!â
Dietrich, left alone, looked troubled.
âLady Lopez tried to splash Eva with water?â
It probably wasnât on purpose.
Lady Lopez had a good reputation and wouldnât risk it over something so stupid.
Besides, Evangeline was the only daughter of the powerful Claudius family.
Even if they didnât get along, doing something so bold in public wasâŠ
âToo risky.â
From what he had learned, Lady Lopez seemed like a careful, calculating person.
It was probably a mistake, and Lady Ansie protected Evangeline.
ââŠ.â
His blue eyes darkened.
He was grateful that Lady Ansie helped his sister.
But stillâ
âCanât she look out for herself too?â
It was a hard feeling to explain.
Evangeline was safe, and that was good.
But seeing Lady Ansie come back soaked and tremblingâŠ
It bothered him.
She looked too fragile. Too pitiful.
âŠHis hand almost reached out on its own.
âJust what happened between her and Lady Lopez?â
Seraphina Lopezâlike a tiny stone in his shoe.
Annoying and always in the way.
Just like back at the Ansie party, and now againâŠ
âSheâs getting more and more irritating.â
Dietrich clenched his jaw in frustration.
If the high priest is a bad person as seraphina, I guess they will be a the bad guys together
I was thinking the same like if bro has a personality similar to Seraphina then he better stay away from the FL đ§đ§
Maybe it’s better for them to be together and get out of the way
“Interesting.”
The immortal line for male leads
Yeah, I mean having the two-faced liars end up together may end up being the best solution
Kiss her~
Hahaha, I like how, indirectly, Seraphina is totally ruining her chances with the Duke. They haven’t even officially met but he doesn’t seem to like her at all.
