~Chapter 22~
âShe actually convinced the princess? Not bad.â
With that thought, Seraphina opened the letter with sparkling eyes.
And thenâ
âW-What is this even supposed to mean?!â
Seraphinaâs pretty face twisted in anger.
[To my dear Seraphina,
Hello, Seraphina.
How have you been?
Todayâs the day of the salon, but I noticed your name wasnât on the guest list.]
Was this a joke? A prank?
Seraphina’s eyes widened in rage.
[Honestly, I was a bit shocked.
I know how much you care about me.
So I really thought youâd show up to support me todayâŠ]
Seraphina felt her blood boiling.
But Laritâs calmly sarcastic letter wasnât done yet.
[I figured, âNo way she couldn’t get an invitation.â
So I started thinking maybe⊠you just didnât care that much about me.]
âWhat kind of nonsense is this?!â
Grinding her teeth, Seraphina continued reading.
[Seraphina, I always believed we were true friends.
But after what happened today, Iâm starting to doubt that.
I hope next time, youâll show a little more sincerity.
Have a nice day.
âLarit Ansi]
The letter ended after completely turning Seraphina inside out.
âWhat the hell is this?!â
Crunch!
Unable to hold back, Seraphina crushed the letter in her hand.
The veins on her clenched hand turned blue from the tension.
Gregory, alarmed, called out.
âSeraphina?â
âWhat did it say?â the baroness asked, confused.
Oops.
Snapping out of it, Seraphina quickly composed herself.
âOh, umâŠâ
But now she had nothing to say.
Whatâwas she supposed to admit that Larit just mocked her in a letter?
âLarit? Mocking me? Me?!â
âWhatâs wrong, Seraphina?â
Gregory asked again with concern.
âNothingâŠâ
She couldnât hide her expression no matter how hard she tried.
Seraphina covered her face with a fragile hand and stood up.
âSorry, I just feel a bit short of breath⊠Iâll go get some fresh air.â
âShould I escort youâŠ?â
âNo, Iâll be fine alone.â
She smiled and refused him gently.
Then quickly stepped out of the parlor.
In the empty hallway, she no longer had to fake a calm expression.
She let her face contort in fury.
âLarit! How dare you treat me like this?!â
Grit.
Her teeth clenched audibly between her pretty lips.
Trying to calm down with deep breaths, Seraphinaâs eyes narrowed darkly.
âI wonât let this go.â
Meanwhile, the salon ended successfully.
âWasnât this salon really nice?â
âYeah, it felt well-planned.â
The guests praised it highly.
âAnd the princess did a great job as host.â
âHonestly, I didnât expect her to be so composed.â
Naturally, the princessâs reputation seemed to rise.
And so, throughout the event, she wore a bright smile.
Soon afterâ
âYou worked really hard today, Lady Ansi.â
The princess smiled brightly at me.
âNot at all. You worked the hardest, Your Highness.â
âWhat? I just followed your advice.â
The princess replied coyly, sneaking a glance at me.
âAnyway, itâs getting late now⊠so what are you going to do?â
Huh?
I blinked in confusion.
âGo home, of course?â
Our townhouse wasnât farâit was right in the capital. I could easily ride home.
âAh, I already had the carriage prepared. I was going to head back nowâŠâ
âYouâre going home?!â
She jumped like a startled cat.
âWhy? Whatâs wrong with going home?â
I stared at her with wide eyes.
âAhem.â
She cleared her throat a couple of times and spoke stiffly.
âUm, Lady Ansi. Isnât it a bit too late to go home?â
âIs it?â
I glanced out the window.
Sure, it was getting darkâbut not too late to travel.
Then she suddenly declared:
âSo just sleep over.â
âWhat?â
Out of nowhere?
Blushing, the princess raised her voice.
âI-I heard about pajama parties!
Itâs when friends sleep in the same room, eat snacks, tell secretsâthings like that!â
She said it all at once, then quickly turned her head away.
But I saw itâher ears were glowing red.
âThey say itâs something all friends do!â
âThe pajama party?â
âItâs not that I wanted to or anything!â
She added quickly, looking at me for a reaction.
âSo⊠are you really going back to your townhouse?â
I barely held in a laugh.
She was trying so hard to act cool, I couldnât possibly say no.
âSheâs too cute.â
It felt like abandoning a grumpy kitten on the street.
âOf course not.â
I shook my head.
âI want to have a pajama party with you too.â
Her face lit up immediately.
âYay!â
She excitedly rattled on.
âWhat snacks do you like? What drink should we have? Want to play cards? I have chess too!â
âAnythingâs fine, as long as Iâm with you.â
At that, the princess looked at me quietly.
Then softly mumbled:
âA-ActuallyâŠâ
âYes?â
ââŠI wanted to.â
But her voice was too smallâI couldnât hear what she said.
I looked at her, puzzled.
âI-I wanted to have a pajama party with Lady Ansi too!â
She blurted it out with her eyes shut tight.
Then turned and scolded me:
âIâll be in the bedroom first! Hurry and wash up and change, okay?!â
With thatâ
The princess dashed off to the bedroom.
I stared after her, stunned.
âWait, Your Highness⊠If you run off like that, what am I supposed to do?â
Luckily, she sent a maid to help me.
I bathed, changed into clean, fluffy pajamas, and was led to her bedroom.
âAh, youâre here?â
The princess greeted me with a pouty face.
And just like that, we spent the evening together, rolling around on the bed, chatting.
We played cards, chess, ate snacks, and shared silly conversations.
Then, casually, she asked:
âSo⊠Lady Ansi, are you really not interested in your ex-fiancĂ© anymore?â
She said âex-fiancĂ©â vaguelyâas if she didnât even remember Gregoryâs name.
Which she probably didnât.
But anywayâ
âYour Highness, of course not.â
I answered seriously.
âIf I still had any feelings left, I wouldnât have sent the breakup letter in the first place.â
Even if she was the princess, I wouldnât let her pair me with Gregory again.
She nodded, satisfied by my firm response.
âGood. Looks like youâve finally come to your senses.â
I mean she’s not gonna pair you with your ex, her brother, however…
I love it. I can absolutely imagine her ordering her brother to marry Laritte as if it’s obvious
I see the cogs turning in your head, eva..
looks like her true nature is showing~
Their friendship is so cute <3
