Chapter : 09
The Single Noble Enjoys Relaxing Outdoors
Ranked 2nd in the daily overall rankings. Thank you very much.
After taking on a gathering request at the Adventurerâs Guild, I had come to a forest east of the royal capital.
There was absolutely no crowdâonly the lush green trees and the faint breaths of flora and fauna.
Taking a deep breath, I could smell the scent of soil and grass.
â…The air is really fresh.â
The high-quality oxygen seemed to circulate through my whole body, making my blood feel alive and vigorous.
The sky peeking through the gaps in the trees was perfectly clear, creating a beautiful contrast with the greenery.
Humans have lived in nature since ancient times. So, itâs only natural to feel calm when surrounded by a natural setting like this.
It felt like being freed from the noise of the city. Nature doesnât chatter like humans, and that was exactly why it felt so good.
As I walked, enjoying the scenery, I noticed a plant with oval-shaped leaves at the base of a tree.
âThatâs Kirk Grass.â
Kirk Grass is a wild herb found in forests. When boiled, it neutralizes the smell of meat and fish and has antibacterial properties. Itâs like bamboo leaves in my previous lifeâalways in demand.
I pinched the stem at the base with my fingers and collected them one by one.
However, as I continued gathering, they started forming a bundle in my hand.
Normally, I would store them in a pouch, but I have something even more convenient.
Itâs a magical item called a Magic Bag.
Magical items, or treasure tools, are usually discovered in dungeons.
They range from robes that can make the wearer invisible, rings that allow instant teleportation, flying capes, bracelets that let you breathe underwaterâtheir effects surpass technological limitations. The Magic Bag, capable of storing objects regardless of their weight, is one such treasure tool.
Unlike magical devices, treasure tools cannot be reproduced with modern magical technology.
Thatâs why treasure tools fetch high prices, and adventurers often delve into dungeons hoping for a big payoff.
âStill, itâs amazing every time I use it.â
It looks like an ordinary shoulder bag, yet it swallows items far beyond its apparent capacity.
Some say it was created by an ancient mage, but even I, who inherited magical aptitude from the Divine God, cannot comprehend its structure. Clearly, it is fundamentally different from a magical device.
Yet, thatâs precisely whyâŠ
âTreasure tools are full of romance.â
Treasure tools contain techniques impossible to reproduce with ordinary magical devices.
The Magic Bag is no exception. Even if someone told me to create one as a magical device, I wouldnât know where to start.
The Magic Bag doesnât allow infinite storage, but itâs incredibly convenient.
I love treasure tools that provide comforts that magical devices cannot.
âThose are button mushrooms.â
While collecting Kirk Grass, I noticed yellow mushrooms growing on the shaded bark of a tree.
As their name suggests, they were round like buttons, hence the name âButton Mushrooms.â
They can be boiled or grilled and grow year-round. Their demand is high, and gathering requests for them are common.
Honestly, these items donât fetch much money, but any excess can be taken home and used as food. It never hurts to gather plenty.
As I busily plucked the button mushrooms from the tree, a rustling sound came from behind a bush.
It was faint, but clearly not the sound of leaves in the wind.
I immediately turned around to see a monster with black fur and white fangs.
âA Black BoarâŠâ
It glared at me with hostile intent for entering its territory, snorting roughly.
Black Boars are omnivorous, but they especially like mushrooms.
Seeing me gather its favorite food, it probably decided I was stealing its meal.
âI havenât exercised much recently, so this is perfect.â
Even a monster like a Black Boar is no problem for me.
I drew the sword at my waist. The boar kicked the ground with its hind legs and charged.
An impressive start dash. Though smaller than me, its curved fangs looked deadly. One stab would be fatal.
But that is only if it hits.
The Black Boarâs charge is straightforward, so dodging it isnât difficult. Its habit of scraping the ground with its hind legs gave away its timing.
I sidestepped to avoid the charge and prepared for the boarâs U-turn.
âF-Fugiii!â
However, that wasnât necessary.
âThe fangs must have gotten stuck.â
Apparently, its fangs were lodged into the tree where the button mushrooms grew.
Its proud, sharp fangs had turned against it.
Right in front of me, the boar struggled to pull out its fangs while sticking its rear toward me.
âIt wasnât even a proper workout, but I canât just let it go.â
I swung my sword at the immobilized boar.
After dismantling the Black Boar, I categorized its hide, fangs, meat, and magic stones, stored them in the Magic Bag, and continued walking.
As I progressed, the spacing between the trees gradually widened, and I faintly heard the sound of water.
Walking straight ahead, the dense forest atmosphere faded, and a lake appeared before me.
A large lake nestled in the forest. Here, the trees had no dominance over the water, and its clear surface calmly asserted its presence.
This is my favorite spot.
Whenever I come to the eastern forest, I spend relaxing time here.
The view is excellentâI can see the sky and distant mountains.
Ducks swam leisurely, and colorful birds rested on fallen logs.
There were no signs of aggressive monsters, and the air felt overall calm.
Just as I was about to relax here, I noticed a tent set up diagonally to my right, with a man slouched deeply in a chair beside it.
His face was obscured by a book placed over it, so I couldnât make out his features.
ââŠSomeoneâs already here.â
I felt uncomfortable. I had thought this spot was only for me, but now a stranger was here.
Yet, this isnât private propertyâitâs a forest anyone can enter. I couldnât complain.
From his perspective, I would be the intruder.
Even if I moved, this lake is my favorite spot, and I didnât want to waste the day returning to the capital.
If he were part of a noisy group, Iâd leave immediately, but since it seemed to be just him, there was no problem.
With that in mind, I pulled outdoor supplies from my Magic Bag.
I set up a windproof tent, hammered the stakes, and unfolded a chair on a flat area.
I couldâve just sat and read my favorite book, but I decided to prepare lunch as well.
I reached into the Magic Bag and pulled out a long black cylinder.
This is a smoking device I created.
I love smoked food and, in my previous life, often smoked foods outdoors during camping and mountain climbing.
I had often used a portable smoker, which I replicated with this device.
The principle is simple: put chips in the cylinder and ignite them with a magical device.
Then, by pressing a button, the internal wind magic stone activates, sending smoke through a tube.
I arranged the food to be smoked, closed the lid or boxed it in, and the smoke would do the rest.
I had prepared the ingredients in advance: seasoned eggs, cheese, bacon, nuts, and peanuts.
I cut them into proper sizes, placed them on a plate, and boxed them.
Once I inserted the tube, all that remained was to operate the device.
The fire ignited the applewood chips, releasing a fragrant, reddish smoke.
The smoke traveled through the tube, covering the food evenly.
Satisfied, I closed the lid of the box.
After allowing time for the smoke to work, the food would be perfectly smoked.
Confirming the device was working, I sank into my chair and began reading my favorite book.
