I searched for “Rex” on Naver. Just typing “Rex” brought up the Silicon Valley venture capitalist Rex as an auto-suggestion.
It turned out he was the most famous anonymous venture investor in Silicon Valley.
And it seemed that Kwon Hyuk-jun was trying to track him down to carry out a semiconductor materials development project.
“If I play this right, maybe I can use it too,” I muttered to myself.
Judging by the fact that an article had even been released, it seemed like Hyuk-jun was obsessed with finding Rex. I decided to ask Kwon Su-hyuk about it. With that thought, I began compiling information about Rex.
Just as I was about to get serious, my phone vibrated.
[Stop overthinking and go to sleep. You’ll grow taller that way.]
“…I swear, he’s like a ghost.”
It was a message from Su-hyuk.
I had saved his name as “Husband,” and after staring at the screen for a long moment, I replied before returning to bed.
[Got it. Good night, Husband!]
Even though the situation wasn’t funny at all, I couldn’t help but smile faintly.
It was a strange night.
A few days later.
With Oh Dae-ho absent, Shin Yang Trading had activated its emergency protocols.
Word spread like wildfire within the company that he had collapsed because of me.
With both the chairman and vice chairman out of commission, Shin Yang Trading would soon hold a board meeting to appoint an acting CEO.
Alongside dealing with the company issues, I visited Su-hyuk’s penthouse to strategize for the matchmaking meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
It was my second visit, but the grand house still felt overwhelming.
“Did they only bring in the essentials? It’s so empty.”
There wasn’t even a TV in such a vast space.
As I glanced around the empty house, Su-hyuk handed me a coffee and sat across from me.
“The rumors have probably reached Kwon-sung already.”
I nodded slightly, grateful, taking the coffee.
“If they hear I’m a violent daughter-in-law, it’ll be a bonus for me if they reject me. Su-hyuk doesn’t have to enter the Kwon household, and I don’t have to switch husbands either.”
“Then you won’t be able to get revenge?”
“No, revenge is a must. You give back what you’ve received.”
Su-hyuk smirked knowingly at my fierce response.
“….”
Looking at his arrogant face, memories from a few nights ago unexpectedly flashed through my mind.
“Feels good, Yuseong-ah?”
…Shin Yuseong, it’s broad daylight. Calm down.
I coughed awkwardly, trying to erase the embarrassing thought, and continued.
“Anyway, tomorrow is our chance to meet Chairman Kwon Seong-jae, so we need to arrange a meeting while we can.”
Su-hyuk naturally had to get me into the Kwon household and create an opportunity to face Chairman Kwon Seong-jae. After all, the chairman wasn’t someone you could easily meet, even if you were a prospective daughter-in-law.
“So… Su-hyuk, do you know anything about the venture investor ‘Rex’?”
I had been searching tirelessly for Rex, but he was elusive. If even Kwon Seong couldn’t find him, how could I?
It might have been a flawed plan from the start, but Su-hyuk probably knew more than I did, so I asked casually without expectations.
“Rex?”
“Yes. Hyuk-jun is looking for that investor. If we could use that as a pretext to arrange a meeting, it would be perfect… but he’s so hard to find.”
There was another reason I needed to find Rex.
As I was about to explain, Su-hyuk, who had been standing by the window, spoke dryly.
“That’s me.”
…Did I hear that right?
Blinking in surprise, I watched as Su-hyuk slightly turned his head.
“I’m Rex, the venture investor.”
Sunlight streamed through the large window, casting a halo behind him.
The glare made me squint.
What… is he a god?
Su-hyuk walked toward me and handed me a business card. I stared at it, wide-eyed.
It read, in English: Venture Investor Rex.
“I knew he was impressive, but…”
I hadn’t imagined him to be this extraordinary. I had assumed, just by looking at the penthouse, that he held a high position in some underground organization.
But Venture Investor Rex…
‘I really misjudged him.’
I hadn’t mentioned it before because I assumed he wasn’t exactly “clean,” but it turned out to be my prejudice.
“Rex I knew… could it really be… Su-hyuk?”
He nodded indifferently at my question.
“Wow… really…”
I couldn’t believe it, so I chugged my iced coffee. Even after that, I covered my mouth, trying to calm down, and stared at him.
“….”
My gaze bounced between him, my feet tapping nervously.
“What’s wrong? You’re restless.”
“Su-hyuk,” I said.
“What?”
“I really, really love you.”
“…What?”
His eyes widened, rare for him. I didn’t notice that his ears were turning red as I covered my mouth, stifling a laugh.
‘Truly the best partner… and the best husband!’
The thought of the sweet revenge we’d soon drink up made me chuckle uncontrollably. With Su-hyuk as my card, this revenge was bound to succeed.
The next day.
I arrived at an upscale Korean restaurant for the matchmaking meeting.
Following the staff’s directions, I entered a quiet private room.
“Shin Yuseong…!”
The moment the door opened, an unwelcome face appeared.
“Aunt, you’re here,” I said.
After the staff left, I closed the door and sat beside her.
Even after all the chaos, she had attended the meeting—so she intended to push this marriage through to the end. She probably planned to extort money from Chairman Kwon if I became a Kwon daughter-in-law.
I glanced at her.
Designer clothes and jewelry I hadn’t seen before…
‘She might’ve already gotten some out of him.’
She smirked and sipped water placed before her.
Kyung-hee, who had been watching me, could no longer contain herself and stood up.
“Shin Yuseong! How on earth—”
At that moment, the door swung open wide.
“The chairman is coming in.”
Hearing the announcement, Kyung-hee gritted her teeth and whispered,
“You. Stay after the meeting.”
I didn’t respond, instead standing and looking toward the doorway.
And then I came face-to-face with Chairman Kwon Seong-jae.
“Why are you standing to greet me? How forward,” he said.
Even in his sixties, his commanding presence and sharp features remained.
“So, you’re the daughter-in-law-to-be.”
His gaze was intimidating.
“Hello, Chairman. I’m Shin Yuseong,” I said.
Looking directly at him, I realized: Su-hyuk takes after him.
Unfortunately, Su-hyuk had inherited the chairman’s features.
I had considered doing a DNA test with hair from Hyuk-jun to confirm the sibling relationship. But with the chairman’s features, it was obvious at a glance.
I understood why Su-hyuk always wore a mask.
“All right, everyone, please sit.”
The chairman, Ham Myung-sook, and Hyuk-jun took their seats across from me.
As neatly arranged dishes were served and the staff left, Seong-jae spoke first.
“How’s your father?”
I replied,
“There’s been no improvement yet; we’re still monitoring him.”
Byun-oh had collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage, and there was nothing to do but wait for him to regain consciousness.
Seong-jae clicked his tongue, gesturing to Myung-sook about the braised short ribs. She looked at me.
‘Why is she looking at me?’
Despite my confusion, Seong-jae continued.
“You must be very worried. If I have time, I should pay him a visit myself, huh, tsk.”
“Oh… yes. If you do, my father will be pleased.”
I gave a vague reply, puzzled as Myung-sook gestured for me to serve the ribs to Chairman Kwon.
‘Wait… I’m supposed to serve braised ribs to Chairman Kwon?’
As I blinked in disbelief, Kyung-hee quickly stood up and helped me.
Seong-jae smiled appreciatively, noticing the empty seat beside Kyung-hee.
“By the way, where’s Vice Chairman Oh Dae-ho?”
Kyung-hee hesitated briefly, smiling awkwardly.
“Well… there was an accident. My husband is hospitalized too.”
“Oh dear. What happened?”
“Ha ha…”
Kyung-hee trailed off, worried that revealing this might ruin the marriage due to my violent tendencies.
Ham Myung-sook, however, seemed fully aware of the situation.
“Did the new lady cause a big incident?”
“What incident? Do you know something?”
Seong-jae’s question earned a smirk from Myung-sook as she looked straight at me.
“Why don’t you ask the person involved?”
