Episode 10 — Demolition Is Experience

“Village chief?”

Aren checked the title that had suddenly appeared before his eyes.

Aren’s mind was still spinning.
If he could, he would’ve asked Kim Min-soo what was going on —
but then he realized he didn’t even know the guy’s in-game ID.

“Ugh… I’ll ask him at work tomorrow.”

“A little, yeah.”
“Understandable. Then please take a look at this.”

Alfredo snapped his fingers lightly.

Aren exhaled softly.
He could now picture the situation.

The house he built was the Village Chief’s House,
and by becoming its owner, he had automatically become the new village chief.

All he wanted was to own a simple house.
He hadn’t expected to be handed an entire village.

“So what do I even do with the taxes?”
“That’s entirely up to you. You may invest them in the village—or keep them for yourself.”
“I can… keep them?”
“You’re the village chief, after all.”

Aren rubbed his chin in thought.

“So basically, this land belongs to me now?”
“Yes, sir. The entire territory is yours.”
“Hoh…”

He couldn’t hide his intrigue.
After all, who wouldn’t be thrilled to own free land?

“Wait, my house has a level?”

Aren looked toward his house.
Come to think of it, Lex had appeared right after he finished building it,
so he hadn’t had time to properly inspect it.

filled with decay and eerie silence.

Aren picked up his hammer.
The first step was to demolish the crumbling, dangerous buildings.

“What are you doing?”

“You need to eat first.”
“Why are you holding a hammer… Village Chief?”
“Why else? You’re here to help, right, Alfredo?”
“You may call me Alfredo, and formal speech is unnecessary.”

Sensing danger, Alfredo’s words trailed off—
but it was already too late.

“Then you’ll help me with this, right? Those houses over there…”

Aren grinned.

“We’re going to tear them down — together.”

At least he wasn’t alone in this.
With quiet resignation, Alfredo lifted his hammer.
First mission: demolition.

“This isn’t exactly what I signed up for…”

Still, he swung the hammer.

Bare-chested and sweating, Alfredo slammed the wooden mallet down again and again.
Aren had even crafted the hammer for him.

“How did it come to this…”

He was supposed to be a butler, a counselor, someone who guided leaders toward greatness.
He had pledged to help his master become a wise and noble chief—
and yet, his very first task was demolition work.

“This isn’t how I imagined it…”

A sigh escaped him.
He wasn’t sure whether he was a butler or a construction laborer anymore.

He glanced toward Aren, who was energetically smashing old walls and clearing rubble.

That comforting lie was all he had.
Alfredo raised his hammer again.

He had no idea what kind of backbreaking chaos awaited him in the days to come.

Aren frowned as he noticed Alfredo just standing there, watching.

“They’re shaking because I’m exhausted!”
“Ah…”

Fair enough.
In real life, a job like this would be done in minutes with machinery.
Doing it all by hand was grueling work for a beginner.

“Haaah…”

Alfredo slumped down, completely drained.
His once neat, formal attire was now drenched in sweat and dust.

There was something oddly familiar about the sight.
It reminded Aren of the workers who’d stayed up all night helping his father in the carpentry workshop.

“But still, Village Chief… you’re really something.”
“What do you mean?”
“How are you so good at tearing things down? I swing and swing, and nothing happens.”
“Experience.”
“Experience?”

Aren smiled, hefting his hammer as he approached a nearby wall.

He ran his hand along the old wall, then suddenly swung the hammer with precision.

The wall collapsed in a chain reaction, crumbling into dust.

and now, he could demolish buildings with practiced ease.
