CHAPTER 20
I Am a Shameless Person
Unfortunately, there were two uninvited guests in this beautiful scene.
They were Gabriel and Herond.
‘I did say grilled vegetables taste better, but I never said to grill the vegetables that go inside sandwiches!’
To humans, it would have sounded like nothing more than meaningless chirping, but to Redemberg Lu Edeltein, the Demon King, its meaning would have been clearly conveyed.
However, Herond’s tearful plea was lightly ignored.
Herond felt wronged.
No matter how important love was, was it really fair to treat someone who had stayed by his side for so long this coldly?
‘This is truly too much, Your Majesty!’
Still, he could not bring himself to complain directly to his master.
After all, his opponent was the Demon King.
Herond instead ground his beak toward the easier target, Ehilie.
‘How dare you steal His Majesty’s attention from me. Just you wait, human!’
Meanwhile, Gabriel watched the two’s emotional display of affection and thought to himself.
‘What a loving couple. Ah, wait, didn’t they say they’re not married yet?’
‘…They haven’t forgotten that I’m here too, right?’
* * *
After many twists and turns, breakfast finally ended.
After barely finishing the sandwich made with Rek’s sincerity, Ehilie made a firm decision.
She would never let Rek cook again.
“This is a flavor I’ve never tasted before.”
Surprisingly, Gabriel ate the sandwich very well.
He truly had an impressive appetite.
“Since we’ve finished eating, I’ll be going now. Thank you so much!”
Gabriel bowed deeply and headed for the door.
Startled, Ehilie rushed over and grabbed his arm.
“Wait, Gabriel!”
“What is it?”
“Well, um…”
She should have thought in advance about how to deal with this situation from last night.
Blaming her careless past self, Ehilie desperately turned her brain.
A way to keep Gabriel in this house for a while…
‘Ah, right! This is it!’
“I’ll help you find your lost memories.”
“…What?”
Looking flustered, Gabriel hesitated before carefully asking.
“Ehilie, are you a doctor?”
“Uh, no, I’m not.”
“Then how will you help me recover my memories?”
“Well, I’m not a doctor, but I’m kind of like one.”
A saintess or a doctor, either way.
“Someone who’s like a doctor but not a doctor…”
Tilting his head in confusion, Gabriel suddenly exclaimed.
“Ah! You’re a pharmacist!”
“Yes! That’s right!”
Ehilie nodded brightly with a smile.
“Can amnesia be treated with medicine?”
“Of course. Just trust me.”
“Thank you, Ehilie. How long will it take to make the medicine?”
“Hmm, about a week, I think.”
“A whole week?”
Gabriel looked troubled.
“I can’t trouble you for that long…”
“It’s okay. And I’m partly responsible for you losing your memory. You can stay here comfortably until you recover.”
“What? What do you mean?”
Ehilie froze.
‘Right. He doesn’t know what happened before he woke up.’
Just as she was wondering how much to explain, Rek stepped forward and stood in front of her.
Though Gabriel was tall, Rek was even taller by a head.
His red eyes, which looked gentle when gazing at Ehilie, now appeared threatening.
Rek tilted his chin toward the badly fitted door.
Following his gesture, Gabriel’s eyes widened.
“What happened to the door?”
“Why do you think?”
“Did I do that?”
“Yes.”
Gabriel’s face darkened.
“The back of your head did that to it.”
“…What?”
“Rek, that explanation is too short!”
Unable to stay silent anymore, Ehilie stepped in.
“What happened was…”
She summarized the situation briefly.
“…So I suddenly chased you and threatened you?”
“Yes.”
“And while Rek was trying to come in, the door fell on my head?”
“That’s right.”
After reviewing her words seriously, Gabriel lowered his head.
“Ha…”
At his deep sigh, Ehilie grew nervous.
Technically, Rek was the reason he lost his memory.
‘No, wasn’t it Gabriel’s fault for standing there in the first place?’
Instinctively, Ehilie took Rek’s side.
Just as she was thinking, Gabriel spoke.
“That’s a relief.”
“What?”
“Thanks to that door, I was stopped from threatening you. I don’t remember why I did such a shameless thing, but I apologize sincerely.”
“No, you don’t have to apologize…”
Beside her, Rek nodded arrogantly.
“Rek, thank you for stopping my wrongdoing.”
“I’ll fix the door myself.”
“Of course you should.”
Somehow, everything ended neatly.
* * *
Gabriel left to chop wood for a new door, and Ehilie began cleaning the messy kitchen.
“Is there anything I can help with?”
“No, it’s okay.”
Even so, Rek kept lingering around her.
“…Rek, shouldn’t you be going home?”
“Where would I go?”
“Your home.”
“Home?”
Raising his eyebrows, he smiled.
“Isn’t this my home?”
Ehilie was stunned.
“No, Rek. This is my house!”
“Yes, it is.”
“…What?”
“That’s what I said.”
Before he could say something stranger, he spoke first.
“A married couple is one body. Your house is my house.”
Ehilie was speechless.
“Rek, we’re not really married, and we’re not even dating.”
“Yes. I know.”
Before she could finish, he stepped closer.
“Ehilie.”
“Please answer honestly.”
“About what…?”
“Do you know that man?”
“You mean Gabriel?”
“No.”
“Then you let a stranger stay here alone with you?”
‘I trusted him because I knew the original story…’
“He didn’t seem like a bad person…”
Rek moved closer and brushed her hair gently.
“Many people commit shameless acts behind kind faces. I’m one of them.”
“You’re not like that.”
“No. I am shameless. I pretend to be kind while waiting for a chance to win your heart.”
Ehilie couldn’t meet his burning gaze.
“Ehilie, I’m not generous enough to let the woman I love stay alone with a man I know nothing about.”
So close that she could feel his breath.
Overwhelmed, she muttered.
“…O-Okay. I get it, so please step back.”
Rek stepped away, returning to his innocent face.
Blushing, Ehilie fanned herself.
She was glad no one was watching.
* * *
Watching everything, Herond ground his beak in anger.
Seeing his lord act so sweet in front of Ehilie was still hard to get used to.
But something else mattered more.
‘How dare you not feed me?’
He had already lost His Majesty’s attention, and now even his meal.
He could not endure it anymore.
Having starved since last night, Herond’s purple eyes burned with vengeance.

Get revenge just because of snack huh petty Herond 🌚
