Prologue
#1. I Got Reincarnated into a Military Romance Fantasy, But I Donāt See Any Romance
āSoldiers, welcome to the Imperial Border Defense Corps.ā
I looked up at the man standing on the platform with a stunned expression.
The same bewildered look could be seen on the faces of everyone else here.
āOur Border Defense Corps carries the grave responsibility of protecting the borders of the Adolb Empire. The fate of this empire and the safety of its citizens rest in your hands.ā
Why on earth am I here?
āJudging by your expressions⦠you still have a long way to go before becoming excellent soldiers. But with training, each of you can gain enough strength to defend this empire.ā
Training? Somehow, I had a bad feeling about this.
āNow, I wonāt waste any more words! You have a busy day ahead! Move out to your respective units!ā
Everything around me felt completely unfamiliar.
The parade ground stirred up dust with every step, the man in uniform standing on the platform, and people my age filling the ground.
And all of them wore either dumbfounded expressions or awkward postures, just like me.
As I glanced around, not knowing where to go, my eyes met those of a boy standing right in front of me.
He had jet-black hair and reddish-orange eyes.
His eyes tilted upward at the corners, his lips tightly pressed together, giving him an impression that was both haughty and fierce.
ā¦Wait.
This is the military, and thereās a black-haired boy with orange eyes in the middle? And he looks cat-like?
Somehow, the description seemed strangely familiar.
āAh.ā
A lightning-fast realization flashed through my mind.
Of course. Ever since a few days ago, certain words had been sounding familiar to me.
So thisā¦
I must have reincarnated into the military-themed romance fantasy novel, āFour Maniacs Are Obsessed with Me.ā
So, that Four Maniacs Are Obsessed with Meāabbreviated as ā4MOāāfollows the classic structure of a romance fantasy.
The heroine, living in the Adolb Empire, is actually of a different race from the citizens, a so-called ānon-human.ā
Non-humans are distinguished by their striking appearance and extraordinary physical abilities.
But the most important point is that non-humans, after being annexed by the Adolb Empire in the past, were magically bound by contracts and therefore were fated to serve in order to protect the empire.
The heroine, previously working as a maid, is also bound by contract magic and ends up enlisting in the Border Defense Corps.
The Border Defense Corps guards the empireās northern frontier, where monsters occasionally appear, so physically capable non-humans are assigned there.
There, the heroine meets four male leads, and, as in any romance fantasy, all four become obsessed with her.
āThe male lead characters are predictable, obviously.ā
The author designed the male leads in very classical ways:
-
Male Lead 1: Silent, fierce, a bit crazy. Cold to others but kind to the heroine. Fire element.
-
Male Lead 2: Cool, composed, perfectionist, speaks little. Ice element.
-
Male Lead 3: Gentle and soft, but secretly scheming according to the latest trend. Crazy in his own way.
-
Male Lead 4: Puppy-like younger man, very cute. But becomes crazy if anyone touches the heroine.
In short, itās just a classic F4 structure with the āobsessive maniacā twist.
The reason the male leads become interested in the heroine is also very classical:
āYou⦠you resemble the one who died long ago.ā
Right. The heroine resembles someone who was a colleague of the male leads in the Border Defense Corps but died in battle a few years ago.
Since that āsomeoneā was the male leadsā first love, they project their obsession onto the heroine.
āNo matter how I think about it, my life is doomed.ā
Have I reincarnated as the heroine of this romance fantasy?
No. Not exactly.
āYou⦠you resemble the one who died long ago.ā
Right. I reincarnated as that personāthe one who died.
The dead first love of the male leads. XX.
āHaahā¦ā
I sighed unconsciously as the rattling cart carried me along.
I was being transported to the unit I would serve in, along with my ābatchmates.ā
Seven of them were on the cart, excluding me. Each one had the same dumb, bewildered look.
They were all sighing deeply, and one boy even shed a few tears.
āGo ahead, cry while you can.ā
A male voice spoke in a tone that seemed to view us as pathetic. Judging by the uniform and the way he had been observing us, he was clearly a senior.
āWhen you get to the unit, there wonāt be any time to cry.ā
I mentally pictured the future.
Since I had reincarnated into a romance fantasy, I would naturally follow its rules.
First, I didnāt want to die as the ādead first love,ā so I needed to escape this unit.
Later, when the male leads searched for me, I could just say, āObsessed with me all of a sudden? Huh, did the story change?ā
āHm, but still, I hate obsession.ā
Sure, obsessive male leads are popular for a reason, but that was not my tasteā¦
Then, the cart jolted violently and finally stopped.
āHey! Get off, recruits!ā
We clumsily disembarked, looking bewildered.
The senior waiting for us in front of the cart immediately frowned.
āGood grief! You lot are hopeless! Are you even awake?ā
ā¦Wait, somethingās wrong.
āThese recruits donāt seem worth anything at all, XX!ā
No, this isnāt a mistake. Anyone can tell this is weird.
āUgh, I have to manage these idiots⦠Hey, arenāt you getting off?!ā
No, no. Usually in romance fantasy, they donāt have lines like this. This was supposed to be a military romance fantasy.
āShall we start by dunking your heads into the mud on the first day?ā
ā¦Okay, I take back what I said earlier.
Obsessive male leads or not, it doesnāt matter.
Avoiding the original plot? Who cares now? Iād rather just get obsessed over by the male lead.
āXX, this is just the military.ā
What the hell. Give me back my romance fantasy.
