LSR – Chapter 15

LSR - Chapter 15

“Krung, let’s go!”

Grrrroooowl—!

Tania charged through the maze-like underground prison on the back of her four-legged demonic beast.

She already knew where Rosemary was located—she’d memorized it when entering the prison—so there was no need to waste time wandering.

By now, the underground was swarming with demonic beasts Raspie had brought in.

Thankfully, Tania had rubbed Raspie’s scent onto herself beforehand, allowing her to move freely among them without being attacked.

As she sped toward Rosemary’s cell, she glanced briefly at her surroundings.

The air rang with screams drenched in despair and terror—people convinced they were moments from being killed by the demonic beasts.

The guards and staff had either fled or been eaten alive; there was no trace of them left.

Only the prisoners remained, huddled in their cages, hands clasped together as they desperately prayed to be spared.

They seemed terrified the beasts would rip through the cages at any moment.

But that risk had already been accounted for—Raspie was controlling the demonic beasts to prevent just that.

Knowing how desperate these people were made Tania feel all the more anxious to hurry.

“…Once I rescue Rosemary, I need to link up with Raspie right away.”

She wouldn’t be able to save everyone by herself.

The original plan had been to rescue Rosemary and immediately escape with Raspie.

But now that she was here in person, her heart had changed.

She couldn’t bring herself to turn away from the people trembling in fear—people who’d been dragged here against their will, just like her.

Focusing on getting there as fast as she could, she soon reached the cell where Rosemary was being held.

Short black bob. Small frame.

Tania leapt down from the demonic beast and quietly checked Rosemary’s condition.

The girl was curled up in the cage, hands clamped over her ears, her face buried in her knees.

As if willing this nightmare to pass already.

“Rosemary.”

Tania called her name, but she didn’t hear. Her hands were pressed too tightly over her ears.

In the end, Tania pointed at the cage and gave the beast a command.

“Krung, tear it apart.”

The beast lunged forward and with a crunch, ripped the cage apart.

The loud noise right in front of her made Rosemary flinch.

“P-Please… Just don’t let it hurt…”

She wasn’t even begging to be saved—just hoping she wouldn’t die in pain. It spoke volumes about the fear she’d endured.

Tania simply watched her quietly.

When no pain came, Rosemary finally dared to crack open her eyes.

Tania had waited patiently for her to look up first. When she did, Tania offered her a gentle smile and extended a hand.

“Hello, Princess. I’m here to rescue you.”

Rosy-pink hair. Clear amber eyes.

Rosemary blinked, dumbfounded, at the tiny girl before her—someone who looked even younger than herself.

But the way this girl called her “Princess”… she overlapped perfectly with the prince on a white horse from her storybooks.

Granted, the little pink-haired girl in front of her wasn’t a prince, and she’d arrived on a demonic beast instead of a horse…

But that didn’t matter. What mattered was that she had come to rescue her.

“…Who are you?”

“Me? I’m Raspie’s friend. He asked me to come save you.”

Rosemary’s small shoulders trembled. At the mention of her brother, her wide eyes welled up with tears.

“Did you really come because my brother asked you to?”

“Yup. I promised I’d save the princess.”

“…Then… does that mean I’m not going to die? I won’t be sold to those awful people?”

Tania’s chest tightened.

Just how terrified had this small child been, to assume death was inevitable?

Wanting to comfort her, Tania smiled even more casually.

“Did you know? There’s no such thing as a hero who fails to save a princess.”

And even if she did fail—she’d just rewind time and try again.

As long as she wanted to make it happen, there was no such thing as impossible.

Maybe that confidence transferred to Rosemary.

She stared at Tania as if mesmerized, then slowly reached out and clasped her hand.

“…Thank you for saving me.”

“It’s too early to say that. You can thank me once we’re out.”

Tania grinned, then ordered the demonic beast to break the restraints on Rosemary’s wrist.

Rosemary’s ability was super strength.

But she hadn’t awakened yet—if she had, she wouldn’t have been captured in the first place.

“Mary, can you walk?”

“Yes, Miss Hero!”

…Miss Hero?

Tania blinked in surprise, then shrugged. She had, after all, just played the part of a hero rescuing a princess.

“Alright then, Princess. Listen up. First, we’re meeting back up with Raspie. We’ll rescue everyone else after that.”

“O-Okay!”

Tania lifted Rosemary onto the beast’s back, then climbed up behind her.

Then she charged forward, searching for Raspie—who was presumably still raising hell somewhere nearby.

The underground had been built like a maze to prevent escape, making it harder to locate him than expected.

She was still darting through the underground when—

“There! That’s the bastard who brought the beasts! He’s an Abiliter!”

“Doesn’t matter if he’s dead—just kill him! Kill him, and the beasts will stop coming!”

Tania bit her lip and veered toward the source of the shouting.

It wasn’t long before she spotted a group of guards charging straight at Raspie.

He tried to fend them off by sending demonic beasts to block the way, but some of the guards were Abiliters themselves—this wouldn’t be easy.

Then, as the chaos raged, someone slipped through the crowd and crept up behind him.

“Raspie!”

Rosemary shouted, panicked. Raspie reflexively turned to counter—but he was outnumbered.

“Got him!”

Strong hands twisted his arms behind his back, and a gleaming blade was pressed to him.

“Let go of me!”

He struggled with all his might, gritting his teeth, but his attackers pinned him down without mercy.

Tania was about to rewind time, thinking she was already too late—

When an old man in a mask suddenly appeared out of nowhere and muttered darkly,

“Ganging up on a child… Don’t you have any shame?”

The next moment, his figure vanished—and reappeared like magic, right beside Tania.

“Where’d the brat go?!”

“H-He’s over there—with the VIP!”

By the time he was visible again, he had Raspie with him—snatched straight from the guards.

He’d used his ability to rescue Raspie in a flash, and ignored the stunned stares of those around him as he turned to Tania.

“Consider this payback for saving me from that beast earlier.”

Tania blinked in surprise at his sudden appearance, but sighed in relief all the same.

“…You do realize my wish from our bet is still valid, right?”

“Haha! Fine. If we meet again, I’ll grant your wish.”

The old man laughed heartily, then added with an air of indifference,

“I’ve freed all the people trapped underground. That makes us accomplices now, doesn’t it?”

“…Why now, of all times?”

“I suppose I got sick of being an adult who avoids responsibility. And—seeing you made me realize something.”

“What’s that?”

“That if no one finds out, no one can accuse me.”

It was an outrageously arrogant thing to say, but Tania—knowing who he really was—couldn’t help being glad he’d joined the fight.

With his ability, he could probably wipe this place out single-handedly.

“Grandpa, in that case—can we go ahead and escape now?”

“Sure. If you don’t want to see anything nasty, I suggest leaving quickly. I plan to erase all evidence.”

“Thanks for your help.”

Tania gave a polite bow, then helped Raspie—collapsed beside the old man—onto the beast.

“Let’s go, Raspie.”

Now that the old man had resolved to destroy this place, getting out fast was the safest option.

As Tania rode away on the beast, she glanced back and revised her opinion of the man once again.

“With someone like that, having family might not be the worst thing.”

The man who raised me as his own daughter was murdered. Deciding to use my save & reload ability, I turned back time to a previous safe point. The problem is, out of my four time slots, he’s only alive in the one where I’m seven. Welp, it is what it is. Repeating some life is no biggie, so let’s start over. * * * Elysion, giving off a weird vibe, pulled me aside. He’d been a close friend even pre-reset. Is this happening?

“I love you, Tania. I’ve liked you for a long time.” “Ah, I’m finally getting a confession…!” Overcome with excitement, I immediately loaded the save point so I could hear his confession again.
[Time Slot 1 Loaded.] [Time Slot 1 Loaded.] [Time Slot 1 Load…] [Time Slot 1 …….]
I’m not sure how many times I replayed his confession. Elysion’s face turned so red that it looked about ready to burst, he parted his lips with a troubled look. “Tania. If you want, I can tell you as many times as you’d like, but could you at least give me an answer to my confession first?” “What...?” Shockingly, he remembered everything I did. Instantly, everything I’d done in front of him flashed through my mind. Like I would often look at his face, muttering to myself about how handsome he was. And how every time I wanted to see him, I would go up to him and touch him, making him distressed. And most importantly, how I had just turned back the clock by twelve freaking years just because I wanted to.  I really didn’t think he would end up remembering all of that.
