Summary
Illece is a noble lady in name only—her family is poor and crumbling.
Her father, who’s addicted to gambling, tries to sell her off to a man she’s never even met.
“I’m not some livestock to be bought and sold at the market.
I’d rather run away than be sold.”
To escape a political marriage, Illece Licentia runs away in the middle of the night.
But just as she’s about to be caught and dragged back by her father, she spots a carriage and throws the door open without thinking.
“Don’t worry, I’ll get you to safety.”
Inside is a noble-looking man with shining platinum blond hair and cool, bluish-gray eyes—he smiles gently at her.
“I’m Cassis. You can call me whatever’s comfortable.”
Why is this perfect man being so kind to me?
Did I run from a wolf only to end up in a lion’s den?
