Chapter 32

“R-right… Thank you for the guidance.”

Elysia forced a reluctant smile, and the mage gave her a polite bow in return.

“Then, please take your time exploring the Tower. Once the Deputy Tower Master confirms the appointment, he’ll find you himself.”

Finally, Elysia passed the checkpoint with ease and stepped boldly into the Mage Tower.

“Now, let’s see… where should I start?”

She looked around with an excited expression.

The last time she had visited during the day, sunlight had streamed through the windows. But at night, the Mage Tower felt completely different. Candlelight and ornate decorations lit up the entire building with a warm glow.

Somewhere nearby, a gentle violin melody flowed through the air. Its calm, warm tone added to the cozy atmosphere.

Despite the late hour, mages were bustling about with scrolls and books in hand, busy with research. The quiet liveliness of the night was oddly fascinating.

‘It’s like the hopeful version of a university library during finals week.’

Since the thought came to mind, maybe she should go check out the library again?

Elysia made her way toward the library she had seen last time. She had been curious about it for a while now.

∥“Especially the sofas—I was really curious about those!”∥

So you’re just looking for a place to crash lololol
Do you even care about the books at all lol

∥“Hm, well, I’m not planning to sleep yet, so I might as well see what kind of books they have.”∥

With light steps, Elysia walked between the bookshelves. Sure enough, the scent of old paper greeted her as she entered the library.

Passing the large wooden tables and velvet sofas at the center, she stood before a towering bookshelf and tilted her head back.

“Let’s see what kinds of books they have…”

The books were neatly arranged, every spine perfectly aligned.

And that wasn’t all—each book had a tag with a number beneath it.

∥“Number 524 A23B… ‘A Mage’s Guide to Simple Botany and Herbalism’… The classification here seems surprisingly well-organized.”∥

Looking closer, she noticed each book had a unique number. It reminded her of the classification codes she’d seen back in Korean libraries, and Elysia’s face lit up with interest. The chat reacted the same way.

Whoa you’re right, why does this look just like our system??
I was in the library club, this looks super familiar! Is religion in the 200s and history in the 900s??

Apparently, someone in the audience knew a lot about libraries.

Following their suggestion, Elysia checked the 200 and 900 sections.

∥“Oh wow, you’re right! The 200s have theology and scriptures, and the 900s are filled with this empire’s history books!”∥

The uncanny accuracy made her marvel.

Yes! And earlier you picked up number 524, which was about botany, right?
In Korea, the 500s are for science books! But here, the 500s are filled with magic texts!

∥“Interesting… So in this world, magic has replaced science in the classification system. But why does it still resemble ours? Is it just a coincidence?”∥

Maybe one of the game developers copied the Korean classification system and implemented it here.

As Elysia wandered between shelves, something even more bizarre struck her.

But seriously though… isn’t something weirder going on here?
How can there be this many unique books in a game?

The bookshelves stretched on endlessly, filled with volumes of all sizes, covers, and titles. Topics spanned philosophy, history, religion, magic, art—you name it.

Normally, a game wouldn’t do this. It’d be a waste of time and memory to render a space this detailed if it wasn’t in the main story. Usually, only one shelf might be carefully decorated, while the rest would be copied and pasted.

But this really feels like a real library…
I’d believe it if you told me this was real.
Is the dev team insane?? Lol it’s too realistic.
No way they wrote unique content for every book. It’s gotta be blank pages lol.

“…Wait a second.”

With a serious expression, Elysia opened the book in her hands.

《Fundamentals of Relativistic Magic Theory – Recompiled from Hetalph’s Lectures》

Flip flip flip!

She rapidly turned the pages. It had been a random selection—but…

The contents were no joke.

Densely packed logic, plausible arguments carefully written, unfamiliar formulas presented clearly. The progression was natural, the structure neat.

It was a real book. A book so well made, she could believe it would actually let her cast magic if she followed it correctly. The realization sent chills down her spine.

Thud, thud, flip flip flip!

Elysia grabbed the next book, then another, and flipped through them all.

Same thing. The next one too.

Each volume was packed with solid, well-organized content—not copied and pasted, but all unique. Different fonts, layouts, and topics. They were genuine books.

“Is it even possible to implement this much into a game?”

It didn’t feel like just a game anymore… it felt like she had really entered another world.

Elysia closed the book with a stiff expression.

Even if this place is technically inside a game… at the very least, to me, it’s real.
But still, I don’t want to believe I’ve actually been transported into a fantasy world…

Just as she frowned at her own conflicting emotions—

“Looking for a particular book, are you?”

A strange voice spoke from behind her.

“…!”

Elysia turned around in surprise.

A tall man stood there, dressed in a jet-black mage’s robe.

“Who are you?”

I didn’t even sense him approaching…

Sensing her wariness, the man raised both hands slightly and stepped back.

“…I’m merely the librarian here.”

As he moved, the hood of his robe shifted slightly to reveal his face—and Elysia froze.

…What is with this guy?

Flawless, porcelain-white skin. Jet-black hair in sharp contrast. A face so perfectly sculpted it seemed like a god had carved it by hand. And most striking of all, amethyst-colored eyes that shimmered like jewels between long lashes.

He says he’s just a librarian?

He was too striking, too detailed to be just a random NPC.

Even for a game, his charm and aura were beyond realistic. For a moment, he felt like he could outshine even the main male lead, the crown prince.

Elysia unconsciously tensed and clenched her hand.

Then why… have I never heard of this character before?

Don’t forget—Lady Marigold is a game. Not reality.

Not just a game, but a really famous and popular one.

If a character like this had appeared in Lady Marigold, there’s no way people would’ve ignored him.

Even beyond the crown prince and the main leads, any charismatic character instantly became a hot topic. People would’ve made content, videos, fan art—you name it.

…And yet, no one ever mentioned a librarian.

As Elysia stood frozen, overwhelmed by thoughts and unable to respond, the librarian spoke again.

“You’ve been pulling out books one after another and quickly putting them back. It seemed like you weren’t finding what you were looking for, so I wondered if you might need help.”

He gestured to her hand, which still held the last book she had grabbed:
《An Introduction to Multidimensional Magical Theory》

“Are you interested in multi-dimensional theory?”

“…No, not really.”

“Then perhaps you’re looking for something specific? Something you want?”

Something I want…

For a moment, Elysia thought she caught a playful glimmer in the librarian’s eyes as he said those words.
