Chapter 2
The First Day of Possession in This World.
Jia lay blankly on the bed, mumbling to herself.
“…Wow, a strange ceiling.”
Waking up to an unfamiliar ceiling — wasn’t this a classic cliché? But that wasn’t the only surprise.
“And this ceiling… it’s not just unfamiliar. It’s full-on Western medieval fantasy-style, isn’t it?”
She scanned the ornate decorations above and was even more dumbfounded. Most people in her position would start panicking — Was I kidnapped? Is this a museum or a hospital? Am I dreaming? — but Jia was different. She muttered in a dry, slightly stunned voice:
“…Don’t tell me this is possession or reincarnation or something?”
Jia could come to that conclusion because she was an avid reader of web novels.
This is exactly how web novels usually begin.
As many readers know, there are three common tropes in modern web novel openings:
Regression, Possession, Reincarnation.
Known collectively as “RePoRe”.
Going back in time, taking over a character in a book, or being reborn — that’s how the stories usually start.
The common triggers are getting hit by a truck, drowning, fighting with the author, or being the only one who read a particular novel, right?
Those are typical possession triggers. Like dying in an accident and waking up inside a novel. Something along those lines.
“But… nothing like that happened to me?”
Jia had always been cautious and obeyed traffic rules. She’d never crossed a street without checking both ways. So she definitely didn’t get hit by a truck. She hadn’t experienced any kind of danger recently either.
Hmm, the other common scenario is getting sucked into a game. Like being the only one to receive a rare game, or achieving a unique feat in a game that leads to possession.
That was what Jia suspected had happened.
“Because that fits me perfectly…”
Before her possession, when she lived in Korea, she had a rather unique background.
She had been the top-ranking player in the famous RPG Seyros Saga, known by the username “Lizi.”
Other players often joked whenever they saw her:
Wow, still #1 globally for years?? Crazy!
Be careful — people say the #1 player might get possessed by the game, lol
Are you already possessed? You never eat or sleep, just play games nonstop
How can you be that good otherwise?
Because she heard this kind of joke all the time, Jia had grown familiar with the idea.
She’d constantly been achieving “first-ever” or “impossible” feats in-game and maintaining the top rank for years. Even her guildmates and friends had started teasing her about possession.
You’re literally like a web novel protagonist: ‘I Alone Am Rank 1’, lol
You’re the real deal though — #1 for real
One day, you’ll wake up inside Seyros Saga, won’t you?
After hearing it so often, she’d inadvertently prepared herself mentally.
But still…
…To actually get possessed for real?
Even with all her mental prep, the fact that she had been possessed was still a shock.
Most of all…
This isn’t even Seyros Saga!
Right.
The game where Jia had been ranked #1 was a monster-hunting RPG. But this wasn’t that world.
The floating notification window confirmed it:
Hello, #*$@()!
Welcome to the world of Lady Marigold!
Lady Marigold.
That was a popular romance fantasy dating sim created by the same developers as Seyros Saga. It was still a game — but of a very different kind.
A dating game?
…Not combat?
Let’s be clear: Jia’s specialty was monster slaying, not sweet, romantic fluff.
And to make matters worse… my current appearance…
Jia glanced around the room, then turned to a large mirror.
Staring back at her was a girl with dazzling red hair and golden eyes — a classic cat-like beauty.
She recognized the character.
The worst villainess in the game — Elysia Semperion.
“…And I’m not even the protagonist? I got possessed as the villainess? Is this one of those villainess-possession stories?”
Getting possessed as a villainess instead of the main character — that was another popular genre. Jia had read a few of those too.
Lying on the bed, lost in thought, Elysia (formerly Jia) poked at the floating window in front of her.
“Fine. Let’s say I am possessed. Then what? What am I supposed to do now? Am I just supposed to live here?”
…!
Crackle!
The notification window shimmered as if startled by Elysia’s reaction. But Elysia wasn’t backing down.
“I’m just as freaked out as you are!”
Imagine suddenly being yanked from your house into some alternate world — who wouldn’t be flustered? She had been trying to act calm and knowledgeable, but her mind was definitely in chaos.
“I worked so hard for my real life! What happens to it now? Is it just… gone?!”
Yes. Her real life mattered.
She had lived intensely, worked hard, and hustled nonstop. Sure, she had her game addiction, but aside from eating, sleeping, and playing, she poured everything into work. She never wasted a moment on herself and only used games to relieve stress.
She’d started her own business in college and slowly grew her assets over the years. Things had just begun to take off after all that hardship.
“And now it’s all just gone?! I have to live here as a villainess?! For real?!”
How could something so terrible happen to her?
Shaking with frustration, Elysia quickly scanned the notification window.
There has to be a way to contact someone…
Like customer support. A help menu. Some way to reach a game administrator.
She noticed a tiny question mark button above the close button. Hovering over it, a new message popped up:
[?] – Help / Customer Support
Let’s try the help button first.
The familiar interface gave her a small sense of comfort. Elysia clicked “Help” with cautious hope.
Ding!
A list appeared.
Help
FAQQ: How do I log out?
Q: How do I buy cash items?
Q: I want to see the skill list.
“This is it!”
The very first item — “How do I log out?”
Maybe logging out would send her back home. Elysia clicked it with hope.
Q: How do I log out?
A: Simply say “Logout,” and it will process via voice recognition. Alternatively, go to Menu > Logout.
It was a standard, boring answer. Still, Elysia cautiously spoke:
“Logout…?”
Suddenly, her vision turned blood red.
!!! LOGOUT FAILED !!!
Error Code: 4444444444444…!!!!
@#!! XDDDDDDDayE!!!!ERORRRRRCODE>!$$$$!
“What the hell?!”
The fancy room faded away. Darkness engulfed her like a void.
A panicked Elysia looked around.
Error has occurred
Err0r h4s oCcurred
dp러가 발_ㅏ
Her vision was a black abyss, filled with glitchy text and floating error messages.
A terrifying sight — as if the whole world had been devoured by a system failure.
Frozen in shock, a distorted notification window popped up:
■■ ■■■ cannot process n0rmAl l0g0ut. 😀
Please contact cust0mer serv1ce.▶Return
▶Stay?Stay?Stay?Stay?Stay?Staymf?
“R-return! Let me return!!!”
Elysia frantically tapped the Return button.
✅ Successfully processed.
Beep.
The room slowly returned. The chandelier lights. The fancy bedroom. Elysia bit her lip.
“…What the hell is this?”
Logging out was a nightmare!
Of course, if logging out were so easy, she wouldn’t have ended up possessed in the first place.
With a shaky hand, Elysia pressed the Customer Support menu.
[Customer Support] – You may now begin voice chat with a representative!
Would you like to start?
“Yes!”
This might be my last hope.
She waited anxiously.
Connecting…
Connected to Admin 01. Please ask your question via voice chat.
Finally, a sparkling chat window appeared.
Admin: Hello, valued customer!
Admin: How can I assist you today?
It really connected…
That gave her some relief — at least something was moving forward. Without delay, she explained her situation.
“Um, excuse me! I can’t log out!”
Admin: Your inquiry has been received.
Admin: Searching for solutions…
Admin: You are not recognized as a normal user. Normal logout is unavailable.
“…What do you mean, ‘not a normal user’?”
Her situation was abnormal from the start. She didn’t just log into a game — she had been possessed by it.
If she logged out the wrong way, she might literally die.
She hesitated briefly, unsure what to say next, and then—
Admin: It’s okay. There is a way.
