Chapter 137
“I didn’t want to be this generous, but just knowing you’re alive made me sick. So I came to show mercy.”
“…!”
She couldn’t believe he really came to kill her. Her eyes widened. When Dedrick gestured, Pavle handed him a teacup.
Dedrick offered her a fancy teacup that didn’t fit a prison. Delani’s lips trembled.
“You used to like drinking tea with my mother.”
“W-well…”
Seeing Delani turn pale, Dedrick calmly said,
“Drink.”
“I-I won’t if I don’t want to…!”
“You will.”
Tears filled Delani’s big eyes. Dedrick added,
“If you want to escape this pain.”
Finally, tears fell from her eyes. Delani was paying for what she had done.
She had killed Somerset with her own hands, been betrayed by the son (Alex) she abandoned after cheating, and now the poison she used to kill the hated concubine was back in her son’s hands.
“Hahaha… Ahahaha!”
She laughed like a madwoman, losing her sanity.
In the end, Delani lost herself and raised the cup. Without hesitation, she drank.
“One more cup.”
Dedrick motioned, and the cup was refilled.
“One more.”
“…”
Unable to hold back, she poured the rest from the teapot into her mouth and laughed wildly.
“That’s crazy.”
Milos clicked his tongue, and Dedrick watched her fall apart for a moment before turning his back and leaving the underground.
“Cough! Hack!”
Faint coughing sounds came from behind him.
The musty underground air disappeared, replaced by the fragrant flowers of the Grand Duke’s castle, wrapping around him.
When he reached the main building, he stopped. Marilyn was sitting on the stairs playing with flowers.
Seeing Dedrick, she happily ran to him.
“Didi!”
“Mary.”
She rubbed her face against him, then looked up, smiling brightly.
“Welcome back!”
Hearing her, his heart tightened. He felt tears coming and choked on his words.
“I’m back.”
He smiled at her.
Finally, they could smile brightly without worries.
***
Today, my body felt strange. I blinked while tightly hugging the sleeping Dedrick.
My mind was clear, and my body felt lighter than usual. I slipped away and sat up.
Dedrick noticed immediately and hugged my waist, burying his face in my stomach.
“Not sleeping anymore…”
His sleepy, low voice was so sweet.
I gently stroked his hair.
Delani soon died after losing her mind in the underground prison. After Delani, Somerset, and Gemma all met their tragic ends, Dedrick’s insomnia disappeared.
Nothing threatens us now.
“Didi, from today you start your official heir training, right?”
A lot had happened. All servants loyal to Delani and Somerset were fired, and the Grand Duke’s castle was staffed with new people.
Axel left the castle.
Carlos, the Grand Duke, postponed Dedrick’s training so he could rest.
For one or two years, he planned to stay here and slowly pass the position to Dedrick.
There was other news too. Eugene kicked out the Marchioness and her brothers and confidently became heir. Perez, with Dedrick’s help, framed the concubine for poisoning and executed both the concubine and the first prince.
Attempting to kill royalty was a death sentence, after all. Shortly after, the emperor died, and Perez became the new emperor.
Perez became busier and couldn’t visit me, only sending regrets via communication stones.
Why did my thoughts wander there again?
Anyway!
“Didi.”
“…”
He rubbed his head against my belly like a spoiled child.
“Didi, something feels strange.”
Dedrick suddenly sat up like a spring and looked at me.
“Where… Mary?”
His usually steady eyes shook strangely, staring exactly at my horns.
“Why?”
I nervously touched my horns, eyes wide.
“My, my horns… my horns!”
Dedrick carefully touched my once broken horns.
“They’ve grown.”
“All of them?”
“Yes, all.”
I heard that when the horns fully grow, you’re healed.
I jumped up immediately.
“I need to go see Bris!”
I grabbed Dedrick’s hand and pulled him out of the wardrobe. He stood there confused.
“What are you doing? We have to go.”
“…Me too?”
“Of course!”
Why would I share this great news alone?
Seeing me look puzzled, Dedrick hesitated, then shyly smiled, covering his mouth.
“…Of course.”
Suddenly, he frowned.
“You can’t go in those clothes. Change and come out.”
“Oh.”
I realized I was only wearing a thin garment and went back into the wardrobe. After changing into a light dress, I took his hand and came out.
“Let’s go.”
Before we could leave, Novembris suddenly burst through the door.
“Bris?”
“You feel different…”
His breathing was rough as if he ran here right away. His golden eyes looked at the horns on my head.
“As expected! Your horns are fully grown!”
Novembris stepped closer and reached for my horns. Dedrick flinched but stayed quiet to let him check.
“How do you feel? Are you sure they’re fully grown?”
“Yes. How’s your body?”
“Light. Much more energetic than usual.”
“Hmm…”
He examined my body and pressed my horns.
Novembris pulled the scarf and said,
“Marilyn, put your horns away and step back from each other.”
We obeyed, letting go of hands and stepping back. When I pushed my horns down, there was a knock on the door.
Knock knock.
“Yes, sir?”
“Come in.”
A servant entered, caught my eye, and quickly bowed.
He definitely saw me.
I glanced at Dedrick, then at Novembris, who motioned for me to say something.
“Um… I want a simple breakfast today.”
The servant immediately replied,
“Shall I prepare sandwiches?”
I didn’t say who I was, but the servant knew. The only person who could be in Dedrick’s room was his fiancée.
Besides, our meals were always prepared in his room every morning, so even if they didn’t know our faces, they figured it out fast.
Putting that aside, I was surprised.
“He answered.”
“…Yes?”
The servant was confused. Dedrick gestured.
“Call Milos, Pavle, and Sir Jacob.”
“Yes, and for the lady’s breakfast…”
“That can wait.”
“Yes.”
The servant left, and I covered my mouth, amazed.
“He saw me, really! Even without touching Didi, he saw me!”
“Congratulations, Marilyn.”
Novembris congratulated me.
“This means only one thing, right? I’m completely healed?”
“Yes.”
“Didi, I’m healed!”
I jumped and hugged him. He wrapped his arms lightly around my waist and held me tight.
“…Then, does that mean we have nothing to worry about? Even if you return to the earth normally, your soul will be fine, right?”
“Yes, of course.”
Finally relieved, Dedrick buried his face in my neck, breathing shakily.
“Then I’m the only one left.”
“What do you mean?”
I looked at him confused. Dedrick only smiled gently.
At that moment, the door suddenly opened and Milos came in.
“You should knock!”
When Pavle tried to take Milos out, Dedrick stopped them.
“It’s fine. Where’s Sir Jacob?”
“He’s coming. Why?”
Jacob arrived soon, and the room became lively. I let go of my arms around Dedrick and stepped back.
“Milos.”
“Yes, Lady Marilyn.”
“Pavle?”
“Yes?”
“Sir Jacob.”
“Yes, speak.”
I looked at the three with shining eyes.
“I’m apart from Didi right now.”
“…What?!”
Milos reacted the most strongly. Pavle and Jacob looked surprised and kept switching their gaze between me and Dedrick. Milos stood between us, amazed.
“You’re really apart! What’s this? Are you healed?”
“As you can see. I’m not an invisible ghost anymore. People can see me now!”
Yay for the babies 🙂
Hurray! Looks like everything is solved 😊
