ELND Chapter 2

ELND Chapter 2

Rebecca Twins.

Cedric’s ex-wife, and the incredible woman who made him swear off women forever.

She was a minor villain who only appeared briefly at the beginning of the novel.

Even then, her role was merely to assist the real villainess of the story—her former maid, Camilla.

Why only at the beginning?

Because in the early chapters, Rebecca is forcibly divorced by Cedric and locked away in a high tower.

‘She might’ve been a minor villainess… but to me, she was way crazier than the main villain Camilla.’

Rebecca’s obsession with Cedric was beyond imagination.

Possessive to a fault, she wanted to know everything about her husband Cedric.

And she hated anyone who got close to him, regardless of gender or status.

In short, she was obsessively, madly possessive.

And the height of that obsession?

Their marital relations.

But Cedric, long disgusted by her madness, never agreed to her proposals.

Eventually, Rebecca tried to force him into intimacy by summoning a dark sorcerer and offering up a half-demon as a blood sacrifice—only to get caught in the act.

For the wife of the Duke of Twins—the leader of the half-demon race—to use one of their own as a sacrificial offering?

It was a scandal powerful enough to shake Cedric’s ironclad reputation, and it erased what little mercy he had left for her.

Rebecca was divorced and locked away in a tower without windows, never to appear again until the novel’s final arc.

‘It would’ve been a mercy if that was the end of it.’

The true villainess Camilla continued her schemes to ruin the heroine, Lobelia.

The problem?

Rebecca’s father, Duke Bold, started helping Camilla in her wicked deeds.

When this came to light, Cedric’s rage exploded.

During the process of executing Camilla and Duke Bold, Cedric discovered that Rebecca had secretly been aiding them even before she was locked in the tower.

He misunderstood it all as Rebecca plotting to reclaim her position as Duchess and punished her with a special sentence of his own.

‘She barely appeared in the novel and spent all her time locked in a tower—how is that fair?!’

Now that I was in Rebecca’s shoes, it felt incredibly unfair…

But being Duke Bold’s daughter and having helped Camilla commit her crimes in the early story—it was only natural that Rebecca got caught in the crossfire.

“Anyone who bears a grudge against Rebecca, no matter who they are, shall not be punished for executing her themselves.”

As soon as Cedric made the proclamation, half-demons gathered at the base of the tower where Rebecca was held.

They broke down the tower, fired flaming arrows, and cursed her name.

Rebecca’s crazed laughter as her face melted in the fire, and her final words, still give me chills.

“Hic! Khh… Cedric will always… be my man… Heehee!”

It showed just how pathologically obsessed she had been with Cedric.

Around the middle of the novel, the heroine Lobelia, unaware of all this, worried that Cedric might still be hung up on his ex-wife.

To which Cedric coldly replied:

“If heaven and hell truly exist, I’ll make sure I go to heaven. Because she’s definitely in hell.”

In short, Rebecca was the woman Cedric never wanted to meet again—even in death.

Two Days Since I Was Dropped in This Strange Place

I still couldn’t fully believe it, but I had no choice now but to accept the truth:

I had fallen into the world of the very novel I’d been obsessed with for a while.

Not as a normal villainess like Camilla, no.

But as the mad dog of obsession—Rebecca.

The woman who quietly rotted away in a tower while the main couple fell in love, only to die in a blaze of someone else’s wrongdoing at the very end!

“Ugh… this is infuriating.”

I downed the champagne I had just asked the maid to bring me. Then I glared up at the ceiling.

No—through it. Toward the heavens.

‘Seriously, what is this nonsense? I tossed five hundred won into that fountain—where did that wish go?!’

Grinding my teeth, I forced myself to calm down and leaned back against the sofa.

A sigh escaped me.

“One more glass of champagne, please.”

It was still broad daylight.

But who cared?

‘I could be locked in that tower and dead any day now—might as well drink all the expensive booze while I can.’

I anxiously bounced one leg as I waited for the next glass.

Alcohol was essential if I was to drown this anxiety and find inner peace.

But ten minutes passed, and the maid still hadn’t returned.

“Why is it taking so long?”

I muttered without thinking.

Strangely, all the maids in the room flinched at once.

And not just that—they avoided my eyes, pale and trembling.

Well, to be fair, it made sense.

Rebecca’s jealousy and tantrums hadn’t spared the servants. Their fear was justified.

‘Yeah… best not to even make eye contact with a mad dog.’

Still, I sprawled back onto the sofa and continued to wait.

‘This damned duke’s mansion. It’s unnecessarily huge—even fetching a drink takes ages—’

That’s when a brilliant idea struck me like lightning.

“Right! Why didn’t I think of this sooner?”

I shot to my feet.

‘I’ll just divorce Cedric myself before I get thrown into that tower!’

If I divorced Cedric and became useless to them, Camilla and Duke Bold would have no reason to keep tabs on me.

I’d naturally drift away from both villains—and Cedric’s hatred wouldn’t come my way either.

‘And since I’d be leaving of my own will, no one could claim I orchestrated Camilla’s downfall just to reclaim the duchess title.’

It was a rough plan, but a plan nonetheless.

Now I needed to figure out exactly when in the timeline I’d landed.

‘Cedric and I are still married, and Camilla—my maid—is on a month-long solo vacation, so…’

Camilla, the real villainess, was currently on a secret trip with Henry, Lobelia’s husband, whispering sweet nothings behind her back.

Even when they returned, Lobelia wouldn’t discover the affair for a long time.

In fact, the story only truly begins when she catches them in the act.

‘That means… I’m still well before the start of the original plot.’

A stroke of unbelievable luck. The sooner I divorced Cedric, the better off I’d be.

‘And if I lie low afterward, even when Camilla and Duke Bold’s crimes come to light, Cedric might spare me.’

Plus, I’m still the duchess. I’ll get a huge divorce settlement.

Everything around me was proof—the gold accents on the walls, ceiling, and furniture, the luxurious art pieces.

The overflowing collection of fine dresses, shoes, jewelry, and gems.

‘Once I’m free, I’ll never settle for one man again. I’ll date whoever I want and live for me. Duty? Responsibility? Screw that.’

I wasn’t going to sacrifice anything for anyone else anymore.

Every coin I had would go toward my own joy.

‘And that glorious life? It all begins with my divorce from Cedric!’

There was just one lingering worry.

The hatred the half-demons held for Rebecca seemed too intense to be blamed solely on the dark magic ritual.

Probably because the original Rebecca, even after being locked up, never once repented.

But I had no plans to sacrifice anyone. So I pushed that worry aside.

‘Maybe I’ll ask for a mansion by the beach in the settlement? Weekend garden parties with an ocean view?’

My lips curled into a smile.

Just then, a shadow fell over the table.

I looked up to see a maid standing there, face deathly pale.

“Y-Y-Your Grace… here’s the champagne you asked for…”

She trembled as she reached for the tray.

‘Geez… am I that terrifying?’

She looked barely twenty.

Though she tried to grip the champagne firmly, her shaking was impossible to hide.

And then—disaster struck.

The glass slipped from her sweat-slicked hand.

CRASH!

The crystal shattered, and champagne splashed all over my dress.

“U-Ugh… Oh no…”

The maid looked completely stunned.

When our eyes met, her face turned ghost white.

“H-Hiiiek!”

She gave a strange, frightened squeal as she shook uncontrollably.

On the day I witnessed her husband’s affair, I possessed the ex-wife of the male lead’s possessed manic. “Rebecca, I would have told you not to touch my body without permission.” I divorced him at once with one condition I stay in the mansion next door for the time being for the sake of my life. By the way… ” I regret the moment I divorced you. And my folly that I knew nothing about until your heart left me. Rebecca, I want to win your heart back.” “Your Highness, you said you would live next door for the time being, but you didn’t ask me to regret it?” “You’ve been struggling, because of me…” With those quiet words, Rebecca let go of their clasped hands. “…How about you, Cedric?” At that moment, instead of my departure, all I had to do was stay with Cedric… *** There was only an unexpected sense of emptiness. ‘Rebecca is gone. And with another man.’ The image of man and woman holding each other in their arms kept disturbing my mind. Soon, a thick tendon bulged above the back of my clenched hand. ‘Rebecca, you can’t leave me yet.’ Even if she did, it would be this way now. At least for the time she promises to stay in this castle. I had to give myself the slightest chance to catch her. “Answer me, really, did you try to run away with another man? You did it to punish me because you can put up with it.”
