Chapter 1 ā āBanished? Thank You Very Much!ā
āI, Prince Marx, hereby declareāSibel Vias! From this moment on, our engagement is annulled!ā
The princeās sharp voice echoed through the grand hall of the royal palace.
It was in the middle of a party. When I, Sibel, approached His Highnessāwho was spending time with my stepsister instead of meāhe suddenly shouted that with great excitement.
āā¦Why is that, Your Highness?ā
Even though my engagement was being broken off, I tilted my head politely and asked for a reason.
āYou began bullying your stepsister, Annika, ever since it was revealed that she is the true saint, didnāt you?ā
āBullyingā¦?ā
I looked at my tearful stepsister, who clung pitifully to the princeās arm, and tried to think backāhad something like that ever happened?
When I was six years old, my real mother passed away. The following year, my father remarried. His new wife brought her own daughterāAnnikaāwho was the same age as me.
In this kingdom, a saint is born once every hundred years. It is said that her mere presence brings peace to the land.
Seven years ago, when I was ten, the royal prophet declared that the daughter of Count Vias was the new saint.
Since I was the countās only official daughter, everyone assumed I was the saint. Because of that, I was chosen as the princeās fiancĆ©e.
But just a few weeks ago, my stepmother suddenly claimed that the real saint was actually her daughterāAnnika.
Apparently, I was a fake because I never did anything āsaint-like.ā
I had never seen it myself, but my stepmother insisted she witnessed Annika using a holy power that only a true saint could wield.
She didnāt tell me what kind of power it wasājust that she was afraid Iād try to copy it and lie.
āDonāt play dumb! You pushed her down the stairs and poured wine all over her dress!ā
āOhā¦ā
āThere were plenty of witnesses!ā
Prince Marx, with his long golden hair tied behind him and striking blue eyes inherited from the king, glared at me as he said this.
Ah, yes. That incident.
Itās true that something like that happenedābut the details were rather different.
Annika was the one who bumped into me on the stairs and fell down on her own.
I even grabbed her arm right away, so she didnāt fall far! Surely the witnesses saw that?
As for the wine incidentāagain, she bumped into me! Some wine splashed from my glass onto her dress, yes, but my dress ended up much dirtier than hers.
āThereās no point in arguing. Youāre dangerous. We canāt have someone like you around Saint Annika! Therefore, I hereby exile you to the frontier land of Tori!ā
āā¦Oh my! To Tori?!ā
Even though I wasnāt upset about the broken engagement, I couldnāt help but raise my voice at the name.
Oh⦠could it really be that Tori?!
Tori was a region plagued by dangerous monstersāand currently guarded by the First Knight Order.
āThatās right. Youāll work at the knightsā dormitory. Theyāre short on hands.ā
āMy, the knightsā dormitory!?ā
Oh⦠what a dream come true!
āThis decision is final. Even if you apologize now, I wonātāā
āThank you very much!ā
āā¦Huh?ā
I almost jumped for joy.
Trying my best to stay composed like a proper countās daughter, I bowed elegantly and gave my heartfelt thanks to His Highness.
