CHAPTER 07

Chapter 2: Only Mine

I opened my eyes on a bed with a hard cushion.
But compared to the cave floor, it felt soft like feathers.
I think I slept a long time. My head was foggy, and I couldn’t focus.
What was I doing? I needed to escape. From the cave. But… where was the cave again?

“The cave… ah.”

Then everything came back to me.

The enemy’s surprise attack.
Father’s death.
The fall of our family.
The kidnapping.
And all the things that happened in the poison cave.
Even the very last moment.

“Ugh…”

Actually, I didn’t remember the very end clearly—
I passed out back then.
But I could still feel it in my heart.

I was powerless.
But everyone inside me—my brother, my sister, even Tiber—
They used all their strength to protect me.
I still carry all their memories.

They could have taken over my body if they wanted to.
They all had things they wanted to do. Dreams. Goals.
But no one did that.
Instead, they all left my body willingly.
Thanks to them, I’m still me.

“Ah…”

I held my head with both hands.

Empty.
Only traces remained.
It felt like they were still with me, but I was alone.

Tears flowed.
I cried and cried.

What should I do?
How can I make up for the loss of everyone I loved?
Who should I destroy to stop this pain?
Would revenge even help?

I don’t know.
But still, I have to try something.

“Young Master Ray!”

Suddenly, people burst into the room.

“You’re awake! Thank goodness! This place is safe!”
“Don’t worry. No one will hurt you. We’re from the Sword King’s Investigation Team.”
“Please don’t cry, Young Master. Even I feel like crying now…”
“Get help! He’s awake after ten days!”
“Call a healer!”
“You’re safe now. It’s over. You’re in the Investigation Team base in Clest. No matter what happens, we’ll protect you…”

Why are they being so nice to me?

The answer was simple:
I’m the only one who survived that horrible event.

I should’ve died.
But I lived.
And that’s not something to be happy about.

My decision was already made.
But for them, this was just the beginning.
Some people will feel joy.
Some will feel sadness.
And others… might hate me.

I woke up after ten days in the city of Clest.

It’s the second largest city in the North,
About two days southwest from Granble Village and four days from the border.

“Fifteen days ago, the Granble village and mansion were destroyed by an enemy ambush.”

Once the panic calmed down, a team member explained what happened.

The Sword King’s base found out about the attack a day later.
The delay was because the village was wiped out completely.
No one survived to tell the story.

Later, they learned that some enemies had taken prisoners.
So they sent troops to chase and rescue them.
There were many battles after that.
They pushed forward through ambushes and enemy lines.

Seven days after the attack, the first search team found the poison cave.

The cave was horrifying.
No one thought anyone survived.

“But then… Young Master Ray was found alive.”

The team member who found me even cried with joy.

“It must be a blessing from the heavens. The whole country is shaken right now, but your survival has given us hope. You are the one success in this terrible tragedy. Everyone was praying you would wake up safely.”

Yes.
Now this whole story has become about me.
The only survivor.
The last hope of the fallen Granble family.

But some people must be thinking…

Why him? Why Ray Granble?

Wouldn’t it have been better if the oldest son Rajix or the second daughter Lily had survived?
They were both star students at the Academy.

And Ray Granble?
Oh, that one.
The shame of the Sword King’s family who couldn’t even use aura.

Sigh…

I couldn’t help but fall into these thoughts.
Just then, a healer came to check on me.

“Young Master Ray, you need to rest.”
“Is something wrong with my body?”
“Your body is fine. But your heart… your mind needs time. You should stay calm and quiet for now.”
“Yes. I understand.”

But honestly, I felt okay.
No more strange voices or visions.
Not like in the cave.

Everything that happened there felt like a dream now.
Though I’m only 14, I’ve already lived through a nightmare I’ll never forget.

The people I loved…
They all died because of the Poison King’s followers.

How big is this Poison King group anyway?

They’ve been our enemy for centuries,
But I don’t know much about them.

I need to learn.
Only then can I fight.
Only then can I kill them.

Even if I’m like an egg trying to crack a rock—
I still have to try.
Because I can’t live without doing it.

Suddenly, I saw a vision before my eyes.

“Ugh…”
“Are you alright, Young Master?”
“Yes. I was just thinking… I’d like to be alone.”
“Of course. Please rest.”

The healer left, and I looked straight at the vision.

It showed the future I wanted—
A future where I throw away my humanity for revenge.
A monster that kills all enemies.
A future where I win, but lose everything else.

The visions were blurry.
Nothing was clear.
No full answers—only little hints.

Was this really the future?
Or just a possibility?

It didn’t matter.
The point is… I couldn’t see the exact steps.

How could a powerless 14-year-old like me become that future?

I didn’t know.

But one thing was clear:
First, I had to enter the Academy.
