Chapter 62
The man spoke firmly.
āEstelle, Iām your real father.ā
āā¦ā
āI found you too late. Iām sorry⦠Iām really sorry.ā
The man, who claimed to be Estelleās biological father, tried to come closer.
As Estelle instinctively stepped back, she noticed Lennox.
āDuke, when did you get hereā¦?ā
āI came as soon as I heard the news.ā
Lennoxās gaze moved to the uninvited guest.
The man, who had been about to reach for Estelle, quickly put his hand behind his back.
āIs he your biological father?ā
āThatās what he claims. Iām going to find out if itās true.ā
āEstelle, why do you talk so coldly? I came because I am your real father!ā
The man looked hurt.
Lennox ignored him and asked Estelle:
āLetās hear it together. Thatās fine with you, right?ā
āā¦Itās fine.ā
āWhat?! Even if youāre married, this is a private matterā¦ā
āI wasnāt asking you.ā
Lennox cut him off.
āMy wife says itās fine, so Iāll stay. You can pretend Iām not even here.ā
He said the first part to the man, and the second part to Estelleāhis tone and expression completely different for each.
āHave a seat.ā
āOh⦠okay.ā
Lennox politely pulled out a chair for Estelle.
She sat down, and Lennox sat beside her.
The man hesitated, then took the seat across from them.
Estelle knew this conversation was extremely personalāsomething Lennox didnāt need to know.
And yet, just having him beside her made it easier to breathe.
She looked straight at the man and spoke in a low voice:
āTell me why you claim to be my father.ā
āWas your motherās name Selene?ā
Estelle didnāt answerāshe gave no reaction at all.
The man continued.
He told her he had met Selene in a remote village where he was the local lordās son and she was a maid. They fell in love and promised to marry, but his parents didnāt approve.
They sent him abroad to study. He wrote letters, but never got repliesālikely because his parents interfered.
When he returned, Selene had disappeared. People told him she had stolen money and run away, so he gave up.
Years later, before his mother died, she confessed that Selene had been pregnant and the theft story was a lie to make him give up.
After hearing this, he searched for Selene again, which led him to the Bellonsa Countās family. There, he found only Estelle.
āPeople must have told you that you look like your mother, right?ā
āThatās just words.ā
The man hurried to take something from his pocket.
āNo! I have proof! We exchanged rings when we promised to marryālook!ā
It was a ring similar to the one Estelleās mother used to wear, but without engraved initials.
He insisted that if he had known about the pregnancy, he would never have left for his studies.
Estelle studied himāgold eyes like hers, light brown hair, drooping eyes, a gentle face.
āI havenāt asked your name yet.ā
āTom. Tom Newman.ā
āMr. Newman, Iāve heard enough. Please go for today. Iāll contact you later.ā
āW-wait!ā
Not wanting to leave empty-handed, Tom quickly added:
āHow about we do a test?ā
āA test?ā
āI knew youād doubt me, so I found a skilled doctor. He can check if weāre related just from a single hair.ā
He glanced nervously at Lennox, whose eyes were cold and threatening.
āAlright. Letās do that.ā
Tom happily promised to return tomorrow with the doctor.
After he left, Estelle leaned back in her chair.
āDo you believe him?ā
āNo.ā
āThen why agree to the test?ā
Estelle looked at Lennox, her golden eyes tired.
āHave you ever waited for someone you knew would never come?ā
āNo. I donāt waste my time.ā
Estelle smiled faintly.
āI have. When I lived alone with my mom, I dreamed that my father would visit with gifts. But he never came⦠and my hope turned into anger. I swore that if I ever met him, Iād never forgive him. Silly, isnāt it?ā
āNot silly at all. Iāve thought the same way before.ā
āWhen?ā
āMy real father cheated on my mother. Back then, I had the same thoughts as you. Am I silly?ā
āNo. Itās natural.ā
āThen so are you.ā
Estelle felt they had grown a little closer.
āI donāt care if Tom is real or fake. Now that heās claimed to be my father, Iām not letting him go easily.ā
She remembered her motherās ring:
Sā”C
The heart was between S and C. The C must be her fatherās initial.
Tom Newmanās name had no C.
So he definitely wasnāt her father.
The next day
Tom returned with the doctor.
āHello, madam. Iām Dr. Jerry.ā
Tom explained proudly that Jerryās method could determine family relations with a single hair.
Jerry took one hair each from Estelle and Tom, then put them into a flask of clear liquid.
āIf it turns green, youāre related. If nothing changes, youāre not.ā
The liquid turned green.
āEstelle! You are my daughter!ā
Tom tried to hug her, but Lennox blocked him.
āWhere do you think youāre touching? Sheās my wife.ā
Tom backed down, intimidated.
The doctor laughed loudly.
āThis method has never been wrong! And look at your eyesātheyāre the same! Rare color, isnāt it?ā
Tom agreed, then looked at Estelle.
āIf you called me āfather,ā Iād have no other wish.ā
Estelle muttered quietly:
āHow amusing.ā
Estelle let Lenny break these imposterās hands too
Wait is C for Claude ? He could not come because he was in coma ? And he made the magic toolš±š±
Count belonsa. You are dead .. hee is a powerful manās daughter and a duchess ..
