Episode 53
âThe holy relic is fake.â
With that one sentence, the atmosphere instantly turned cold.
âDuke Winterlen, even if you donât like the result, this is blasphemy,â the emperor accused Lennox.
And it wasnât just the emperorâeveryone in the hall looked like they didnât believe Lennox.
âItâs good I brought this,â Lennox said.
At his signal, Pippin came forward carrying a scale identical to the one Helios was holding.
âThis one is the real thing.â
âThatâs impossible.â
âThen letâs check. Donât you agree, Princess?â
Ignoring Heliosâs protest, Lennox looked at Alice.
If the holy relic from the temple was fake, who could have swapped it? Of courseâit had to be the temple.
Alice looked at the two men suspiciously.
âFine. Iâll verify it myself.â
Helios held both scales in his hands.
âMy name is Alice.â
Both pointed right.
âI am a commoner.â
Both pointed left.
âItâs hard to test truth with facts everyone knows. I should say something only I know.â
She crooked her finger at Helios.
âIâll whisper a secret to the relic. Inject your divine power into both.â
âYes, Your Highness.â
âEveryone, cover your ears!â
ââŠâ
âFather, you too.â
When she was sure everyoneâs ears were covered, Alice whispered,
âI like Mini-myu, the childrenâs play. I like it a lot.â
The two scales tilted in opposite directions.
âI like righteous heroes.â
Again, opposite directions.
âThis one is the real one,â Alice said confidently, pointing at the scale Lennox had brought.
The real relic had marked the first statement as true and the second as false.
âI swear on the royal familyâs nameâthis is genuine.â
People murmured in shock.
And the bigger bomb was about to drop.
âNow, letâs keep going,â Alice said. âDuke Lennox Winterlenâdo you love Estelle?â
âYes.â
The same answer as beforeâbut this time, the real relic showed truth.
Everyone was stunned, Lennox included.
What?
He almost asked out loud but held his tongue.
The relic had just declared that Lennox truly loved Estelle.
Alice then asked, her voice trembling, âEstelle, do you love Lennox Winterlen?â
âYes,â Estelle answered, same expression and tone as earlier.
The relic tilted to false.
âWhatâŠ?â
âHow can that be? You said this was the real relic!â
The hall erupted again.
Estelle forced herself to stay calm. She had thought Lennox had tampered with the relic to make it show âtruthâ earlier. But he hadnât.
In fact, Lennox had planned for everything to tilt toward âfalse.â His original goal was:
- Reveal the real relic.
- Prove the templeâs relic was fake.
- Shift everyoneâs attention away from Winterlen.
But things had gone sideways.
So Lennox switched tacticsâby acting shameless.
He snatched the relic from Helios.
âI confessed first,â Lennox said flatly. âBut she refusedâbecause of her bad reputation for killing her husband.â
People nodded, listening closely.
âI told her I didnât care. I even offered to marry her for just one year in exchange for a large sum of money. If she still had no feelings after that, she could leave.â
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
âBut she still doesnât like me, so I must not be enough yet.â
Alice was horrifiedâa cold man like him, begging for love?
She asked about rumors from Hazel Langster. Lennox dismissed them as lies from enemies. Hazel, panicking, blurted out that she saw him draw a sword at his wife.
âThat? Oh, that was when Daniel Nultia was bothering her. My wifeâs too kindâshe even defended him.â
Finally, Lennox snapped, âHow many times do I have to say Iâm the only one in love here?â
Silence fell.
âAnyway, the real issue is the temple giving out fake relics,â Lennox said. âShouldnât that be punished before worrying about my marriage?â
Aliceâs face went pale. âI canât believe this!â she cried, and fled.
The emperor ran after her.
Lennox then turned to Helios, grilling him about the fake relic. Helios claimed he was new to the position and couldnât explain. He then suddenly started coughing and, looking frail, said he needed to return to the temple.
Lennox smirkedâhe knew Helios wasnât that weak.
Helios asked to take the relic with him.
âWhy should I trust you?â Lennox shot back.
Helios gave up and left with another priest.
When things settled, Estelle spotted Duren standing awkwardly and called him over.
âDuren.â
âHuh?â
Lennox also waved. âCome here, son.â
Me? Son?
Duren looked confused. Lennox nodded. But Duren still seemed unsureâthat wasnât his name.
âA son,â Lennox repeated, making a small circle with his thumb and index finger.
Duren stared at the circle⊠then suddenly ran over andâ
Plop!
âstuck his nose right into the circle.
âHere!â he chirped.
You did not just do a famous reel with your son đ€Łđ€Ł
