Episode 34
Estelle had once seen that man secretly talking with Helios.
âBrother Roman, weâre here to investigate the deaths of her ex-husbands.â
âYou really think she killed them with those tiny arms? She looks like an ordinary woman to me.â
Roman smirked sleazily, clearly underestimating Estelle.
âWell, with that face and body, who knows? Brother Helios, be careful. You never know.â
âBrother RomanâŠâ
At the moment, Roman was wearing a servantâs uniform, but Estelle recognized him. He was one of Heliosâ close men.
Why he was disguised as a merchant before and now hiding as a servant wasnât clearâbut one thing was certain.
âSniff sniff.â
âGet away! Iâm busy!â
âWho are you, mister? Iâve never seen you before!â
âHey, hey!â
Little Duren tilted his head while looking up at Roman, who waved him off aggressively.
âYou filthy little bastard! Canât even understand words, just like your lowborn mother!â
Estelle had to get him out.
She rushed toward Duren. As she approached, Duren turned around and smiled brightly.
âMama!â
Estelle tried to grab him, but Duren gently tapped her and said,
âMama, listen to me.â
So, Estelle picked him upâthough he was heavy, she managed.
Now Duren was almost at eye level with Roman.
âDoo-dooâŠâ
Before Estelle could step backâ
Duren balled up his tiny fist.
âIâm not a little rat!â
Wham!
He punched Roman right in the faceâhard enough to make him stumble backward.
âUgh!â
âThings only look small from far awayâlike stars!â
âDoo-doo is big, right?!â
Duren wasnât trying to hurt himâhe thought he was proving a point and looked proud of himself.
Romanâs nose throbbed painfully, and his face turned red.
âYou little rat!â
Roman forgot he was facing a child and a woman. Enraged, he raised his fist to strike.
Estelle hugged Duren tightly.
Her hands were still tied, so she couldnât defend herself.
Then suddenlyâ
âToo⊠noisy.â
A shadow fell over Romanâs head.
â…!â
It was a tired voice.
A thin, pale woman with long black hair streaked with white and sunken cheeks appeared.
âYou⊠you’re a priest, right?â
With glowing red eyes, the woman casually grabbed Roman by the collar and threw him.
Crash!
Roman hit the wall so hard it cracked, and he didnât move again.
âPriest. Die.â
The woman looked at Estelle with cold, empty red eyes.
Gulp.
Estelle swallowed hard.
She felt like she could be crushed like a piece of paper.
âIs this a dream?â
The woman soon looked away from Estelle.
âNo way a pretty woman like you would be hereâŠâ
She mumbled as she walked past.
Thud.
The door shut behind her, and Estelle finally relaxed.
âMama?â
Duren looked up, worried. Estelle put him down.
The room was a mess.
Estelle recognized the woman.
âThat was Glesia WinterlenâDurenâs aunt.â
âAuntie?â
She was Duke Lennoxâs older sister.
âMaybe she shared some mandrake potion with me. Sheâs really⊠strong.â
That was the only way this made sense.
âEstelle! I heard a loud noiseâare you okay?!â
Lennox ran in, then froze.
âDid⊠you do this?â
âNo!â
âI thought it was the mandrake’s power, but maybe not.â
Clearly, a lot needed to be explained.
Roman, who had fainted, was dragged to the underground prison.
He would be interrogated later to find out why he snuck into the castle.
Estelle had a guess.
âMaybe itâs because of me.â
There was no solid proof that she could control Magi, so maybe they were here to find evidence.
âIf Helios still hasnât given up on me, then⊠it makes sense.â
Estelle recalled how everything with Helios had gone wrong from the start.
âThe engagement with Baron Ingram is canceled. What a coward, calling it off last minute.â
Baron Ingram, like her other ex-husbands, was rich and older.
Even though plans had changed, Count Bellonsa didnât seem upset. In fact, he had a new plan.
âHe introduced you to his ex-wifeâs nephewâBaron Kreuzen. A young guy with sharp business skills and lots of money.â
âHow old is he?â
âTwo years older than you. Young enough to be full of himself.â
âHeâs too young.â
âDeath doesnât care about age.â
âPeople are starting to think Iâm connected to my husbandsâ deaths. Shouldnât we slow down?â
ââŠâ
âIf I marry him and he dies, no one will believe it was natural.â
Estelle begged to avoid another marriage.
She didnât want to kill anyone anymore.
âThatâs why I checkedâhe has a chronic illness. Perfect.â
He was too perfect. Estelle shouldâve been suspicious.
âHe has no other relatives, so all his wealth goes to you.â
âButâŠâ
âEstelle, this is the last one. I promise.â
Bellonsa sounded gentle, but Estelle had no real choice.
Either kill the manâŠ
Or sleep with him and officially become his wife.
Although she inherited a lot from her dead husbands, all her wealth was tied to Bellonsa.
Without marriage, she couldnât be financially independent.
So Estelle agreed.
On the wedding day, she saw her new husbandâs face for the first timeâHelios.
He looked more normal than she expected.
âMaybe I can talk to him?â
She planned to secretly offer him a deal:
- Pretend to sleep together on their wedding night.
- Once married, she would help launder his money.
- After that, they would divorce peacefully, and she would pay him well.
She didnât want to kill anyone anymore.
And she didnât want to sleep with a stranger eitherâthis was her best option.
But Helios never came to the wedding room.
So she went to find him.
Thatâs when she saw him secretly talking to someone.
âBrother Roman, weâre here to investigate her ex-husbandsâ deaths.â
Helios⊠was a priest.
If he found out Estelle could use Magi, sheâd be called a witch and executed without trial.
Estelle panicked and ran.
She bumped into her cousin Mathias.
âMathias! We need to cancel this marriage!â
âAre you crazy?!â
âHeâs from the temple!â
âWhat?!â
If Estelle were found guilty, the Bellonsa family would also be in danger.
Desperate, Mathias thought fast.
âTell the priest that his thing is small.â
âI havenât seen it! How do I know?â
âI donât know either!â
ââŠâ
âJust say it! Itâs a valid reason for divorce. Weâll handle the rest!â
Estelle did exactly as he said.
âItâs⊠small.â
Helios never even showed it, so he couldnât defend himself.
Yet he accepted the annulment quietly.
Maybe it really was small.
But Estelle thought he was suspicious all along.
Later, she found out he had no illness either.
He had faked everything just to marry her.
That loose end still haunted her.
So now, Estelle made a bold decision.
âLetâs consummate the marriage.â
Good boy dudu..punch him again
