SPTM

Episode 1

A pair of pale, slender legs padded softly toward the bed. Moonlight streamed through the window, painting the room silver.

To sneak into a man’s bed at this hour—a man who’s neither her husband nor her fiancé—how shameless. If anyone saw her, they’d call her a temptress, a creature of lust.

She crawled across the bedsheets like a queen spider stalking prey. Beneath her, the man lay perfectly still, his eyelashes resting gently against his cheeks as if deep in sleep.

She hovered over him, her long golden hair cascading down. Her gaze traced the damp strands of his black hair, his sharp brows, the proud bridge of his nose—until it finally settled on his lips, plump and slightly parted.

A sweet whisper slipped through them:
“Richard Aberdeen, my knight. Asleep?”

She listened. His breathing remained steady, but an unspoken tension thickened the air. Their breaths tangled, her pulse quickening until she couldn’t tell whose was whose.

Then—his eyes opened.

Crimson irises, dark as blood under the moon, locked onto her. A thrill shot through her at the hunger in his gaze. She was all he saw.

“Veronica… why are you in this room—?”

The man staring up at her, dazed, was her cellmate. Her escape partner. She traced his jaw with her fingertips and murmured:
“You were waiting for me. I knew you weren’t asleep.”

Instead of denying it, his ears flushed pink. If he’d truly been startled, he wouldn’t be lying there so defenseless. Playing coy even when he’d anticipated her arrival—how mischievous.

“You came here dressed like this?” he scolded, though his eyes snagged on her translucent negligee, the silhouette beneath unmistakable.

Richard’s pupils dilated. The faint scent of her perfume coiled around him, intoxicating. When he tried to sit up, Veronica pressed a single finger to his shoulder, stopping him.

His Adam’s apple bobbed.

She held his gaze, letting her own smolder until his resolve crumbled. Heat spread where her skin touched his, his breath turning ragged.

“Hah… Wh-what are you—? Stop!”

“Shh. You know why I’m here,” she purred, sliding her hand lower. “We can’t escape this prison without your… cooperation.”

“I-I’d already agreed—”

“Do you really hate this?”

Richard clenched the sheets, his brows furrowed in torment—yet he couldn’t bring himself to push her away. The sight made her want to torment him further.

On impulse, she nipped at his cheek.

His chest heaved. The heat between them was unbearable now.

“Ah… This is wrong,” he groaned, even as his hands circled her waist, yanking her against him. “This is your fault, Veronica. You corrupted me—so take responsibility.”

His hypocritical whimper almost made her laugh. Pathetic. But she knew the truth: this man was already her prisoner.

They didn’t need candles. The moon laid everything bare—the sinewy veins of his arms, the way their shadows fused together.

Later

The peace shattered with a splash.

“Ghk—cough! Cough!”

Icy water slapped my face, jolting me awake. I gasped, disoriented, blinking up at the silver bucket now empty at my feet.

Black leather boots. My dripping lashes lifted to follow them upward—until a voice, low and mocking, cut through the haze:

“Tsk. Sleeping in front of me? That hurts, Rosé Valentine.” A pause. “Or should I say… fake saint Veronica Valentine?”

Saint? Right. Memory crashed back: Fortress Prison. The underground torture chamber. And the man before me—

Kyle Casnis, the warden.

Clad head-to-toe in black leather harnesses, he looked every inch the torturer he was. His lemon-yellow hair and golden eyes should’ve been bright; instead, they felt predatory.

I scowled. “You… didn’t let me sleep.”

My wrists and ankles burned against the chair’s restraints. Bastard. If he was going to wake me, he could’ve been gentler.

Kyle tilted his head, amused. “Still defiant? At this point, you should accept your position.”

I glared, my jaw tight. Silent hatred was all I had left.

He knelt, bringing us eye-level. “Or are you just slow? I told you—behave, and I’ll be nice.” His calloused fingers brushed my soaked hair aside, lingering where my damp clothes clung transparently to my skin.

I spat in his face.

The saliva slid down his cheek. The room froze.

Then—

Oof!* Mmph—!”*

His hand fisted in my hair, yanking me into a brutal kiss. I thrashed, but the restraints held firm. When I bit down, he pulled back, wiping blood from his lip.

“You’ll regret that,” he said, almost conversational.

“Y-you lunatic!” I wheezed. “Since when do wardens do this to prisoners?!”

Kyle blinked. “Why not?” He leaned in, his breath hot on my ear:

“You’re a witch.”

I had no retort.

He was right.

was a witch.

And this was my cage.
