Episode 7Â
Licht tilted his head slightly at her strange question.
Luckily, Ayla didnât wait for his answer and just kept talking.
âWhy arenât you that beggar?â
âBeggar?â
âYeah, the beggar! You look just like himâŠâ
ââŠâ
âI still need to get my money back from himâŠâ
She sighed with a gloomy face.
âIs she dumb or just too kind? Who lends money to a beggar?â
Licht, who didnât realize that he was the beggar she was talking about, couldnât make sense of her words.
After all, heâd been trained as a prince since childhoodâheâd never make a deal that didnât bring him profit.
âAnyway, why are you hurt?â
âIâm hurt?â
âMm-hmm.â
Normally, he wouldâve just said âno,â but with Aila, he hesitated. Then he shook his head.
He wanted to lie to her, but the truth wasâhe wasnât hurt anywhere.
âIâm not hurt at all.â
âNo, you are.â
Ayla was oddly firm. She placed her hands gently over his chest, right above his heart.
Suddenly, Lichtâs body bent back sharply.
âGhhâ!â
It was the same reaction he always had when someone touched the cursed spot on his chest.
He grabbed her wrists, but couldnât stop her. His body arched back, then relaxed againâ
and the pain that had been crushing his heart began to fade away.
For the first time, he could breathe easily. The burning pressure in his chest was almost gone.
His red eyes wavered with confusion, while Aylaâs face remained perfectly calm.
âYou should feel better now.â
âWhat⊠did you just do to me?â
But instead of answering, Ayla yawned and flopped down against his chest.
âIâm sleepyâŠâ
Licht flinched, but he quickly tried to shake her awake. She didnât move.
Her breathing was deep and steadyâsheâd already fallen fast asleep.
He stared at her in silence, then gently pushed her off him.
She rolled over onto the soft bed, sleeping peacefully.
âSeriously⊠Iâm burning up here because of you!â
He exhaled deeply, feeling both frustrated and helpless.
âHow can you sleep so soundlyâafter doing this to me?â
Even though he raised his voice slightly, she didnât stir at all.

The next morning
ââŠIâm insane.â
Ayla gasped and covered her mouth with both hands.
Even though Licht didnât move, she knew he mustâve heard herâhe was lying right next to her, after all.
Her lost memories had returned.
But instead of being happy, she felt uneasy. Something about them felt⊠incomplete.
âIâm sure something else happened after I asked him who he was⊠but thenânothing. I just blacked out.â
It felt as if someone had cut out part of her memory and stitched it back together roughly.
Still, she was relievedâat least she hadnât done anything too indecent.
But⊠touching the Crown Prince like that?!
âUgh, damn that alcohol! My worst enemy!â
The memory was so vivid she wanted to bury her head in the pillow.
She couldnât even look at Licht properly, her face hot with shame.
But she had to pull herself together.
She was the heroine of this story now, and her goal was to change the male leadânot fall for him.
If she got any more tangled with him, things would only go downhill.
âIf I just apologize quickly, everything will be fine. Itâs not like we⊠did anything weird that night.â
Yeah, right.
A flash of memory hit herâher hands on his bare chest.
âI mustâve lost my mind. Who touches royalty like that?!â
She wanted to faint, but if she did, thatâd only prove she remembered everythingâso she stayed calm.
âItâs better if I pretend I donât remember the embarrassing parts.â
She forced her expression to return to normal.
Of course, she knew it probably wouldnât fool Licht.
Still, she thought there was a small chance he might let her off easy.
After all, he hadnât been angry last night⊠heâd even seemed a little amused.
âDid he⊠find me cute? No way. Probably just my imagination.â
Whatever it was, sheâd take the chance.
But what she didnât know wasâLicht had been watching her the whole time, noticing every bit of her scheming.
He could see right through her. Her little plans were practically written all over her face.
Clicking his tongue softly, he finally spoke.
âSeems like I made a mistake.â
âHuh?â
âIf Iâd known youâd try to run away so quickly, I shouldâve let you keep misunderstanding things last night.â
Her eyes widened. Heâd caught her thoughts exactly.
Licht chuckled quietly.
âYes, that look. Thatâs the one.â
She immediately wiped the expression off her faceâbut it was too late.
He leaned closer again, bracing one hand beside her head.
His shadow fell over her face, dark and heavy.
Her shoulders tensed instinctively.
âI think I have a thing for that flustered look of yours.â
Aylaâs skin prickled.
âUgh⊠pervert!â
She cursed him silently. If only sheâd been born into a higher noble family, sheâd have told him that to his face.
At that moment, she decidedâshe had to escape from this shameless prince.
âYour Highness, Iâm afraid Iâve remembered nothing from that night, even though you so kindly tried to help me.â
âHm?â
Licht raised an eyebrow. He quickly realized what she was doingâtrying to slip away.
The amusement vanished from his face, replaced by cool seriousness.
âAyla Kabellet.â
Her shoulders stiffened. His low voice carried a weight that pressed down on her.
âIâll forgive your rudeness from last night.â
She didnât believe a word of it.
The Licht from the original novel was never the type to forgive someone whoâd crossed him.
If anything, heâd use that as leverage to make them serve him.
âLetâs just see what he says next.â
Maybeâjust maybeâheâd treat her differently.
âI want you to be my personal healer.â
Yep. She knew it.
âWhy me?â
âYou know the reason.â
Of course she did.
âBecause Iâve read the novel.â
Licht was unconsciously drawn to herâit was part of the storyâs setup, their âdestined connection.â
Thatâs why sheâd tried so hard to avoid him.
âBut now that connectionâs pulling us together again.â
And worse, after last night, he mightâve realized she was the one who could break his curse.
âIf I remember right, our compatibility was said to be almost perfectâŠâ
That must be why she kept losing control around him.
âStill, no matter what the story says, I wonât accept it!â
She put on an innocent face.
âThere are plenty of skilled healers in the palace, Your Highness.â
âNone whose energy matches mine.â
âEven if our energy doesnât match, treatment is still possible.â
âTrue,â he agreed with a nod.
Then he sat back down across from her instead of right beside her.
Ayla frownedâshe could tell he was shifting into negotiation mode.
âOh no. Heâs going to make this official.â
Licht, a master of negotiation, was now taking her seriously.
If this turned into a real debate, she knew sheâd lose.
âI wonât accept, no matter what terms you offer.â
âReally?â
âYes.â
âWhy?â
