Chapter 7Â
 The Holy Sword Gran Avere
I was beyond shocked.
The Holy Sword⊠actually talked to me!
And apparently, it even has a nameâGran Avere.
Wait. Gran Avere? Thatâs⊠the title of the novel this whole world comes from!
I had no idea that was a hidden plot detail.
I honestly thought the author just picked the title because it sounded cool.
But now that I think about itâŠ
In the novel, there was never any mention of the hero Abel talking to the Holy Sword.
The text just said something like, âHe felt as though he were being called.â
ăThat is because the heroâs magic power was nowhere near as great as yours.ă
(Oh, really?)
ăIndeed. In the first place, the heroâă
(Ah, sorry! Talk later! Iâve arrived at my brotherâs room!)
ăWâWait! Listen toâă
Sorry, Mr. Holy Sword, but my brother takes priority!
Ahh, my beloved âoshiâ (idol) is dazzling again today.
His silver hair catches the light so perfectly that it looks as though he himself is glowing.
Maybe my brother is actually an angel who descended to earth.
âNii-tama!â (Big brother!)
I let go of Dorothyâs hand and ran toward him. He knelt down a little and opened his arms wide.
Yay! Time for a brotherly hug!
I dove into his arms and rubbed my cheek against his warm stomach with a happy âpofun.â
ăChild. Hey, child. Are you listening to me?ă
Ugh, the Holy Sword is so noisy.
Donât interrupt my moment of bliss with my brother!
In my mind, I imagined slamming a shutter closed between us.
I still need to ask about the Golden Lycoris later, so I shouldnât cut the connection entirelyâjust mute it for now.
ăWait, what are youâă
Click!
Perfect. Silence achieved.
âHow are you feeling today, Leti?â
âVewy good!â
âThatâs wonderful.â
Oh, my dear brother⊠I love you so much.
And you smell so nice.
Waitâno! Stop sniffing! Heâll think Iâm weird!
âSince the weatherâs nice today, how about we play in the garden?â
âAi!â (Okay!)
Lately, my favorite game is âMoko Toss.â
Itâs like playing catch, but instead of a ball, we throw Mokoâthe soft, fluffy creature thatâs always with meâback and forth.
Since Mokoâs round and light, it doesnât hurt if he bumps into me.
And he always hops back into my hands on his own, so I donât even have to move!
Plus, Moko himself looks like heâs having fun being thrown. Itâs a triple win!
After about ten throws, itâs snack time.
Since I canât sit properly in a chair yet, we spread out a blanket on the lawn.
The ducal manorâs garden is so huge it feels more like a park, so itâs basically a picnic!
âIs it tasty?â
âAi!â
I munch happily on the cookies the family chef baked just for meâcrisp, crumbly, and melting softly in my mouth. Still warm from the oven.
Ahh⊠the joy of eating snacks facing my beloved brother!
And this garden⊠itâs a location that even appeared in the novel!
A sacred place!
A sacred place and my oshiâtogether?!
This is perfection!
âThe ones with nuts are still too early for you, Leti. You can try them when youâre a little older.â
No, brother, thatâs not it!
I wasnât staring at the cookiesâ
I was staring at you!
Still⊠your nut cookies do look delicious. Iâll have the chef make them for me when Iâm older.
âAi.â
I nodded with a bright smile. My brother reached out and brushed a few cookie crumbs off my cheek with his finger, thenâ
He brought his finger to his mouth.
âMmm. Sweet.â
Your smile is sweeter than any cookie, brother!!!
Ahâthis is bad.
My magic powerâitâs swellingâ
âLeti!â
A surge of mana exploded inside me, making all my hair stand on end.
Moko immediately clung to me, trying to absorb the excess magic, but it wasnât enough. The pain wouldnât fade.
Iâm sorry, brotherâŠ
Your beauty has surpassed my tolerance limit!
I canât⊠breatheâŠ
But if I die here, my brother will be traumatized!
No wayâI canât die like this!
But itâs⊠so hard to breatheâŠ!
Somebody helpâ!
ăChild! Are you all right?! Child!ă
That voiceâ
It was the Holy Sword.
Youâre a sacred weapon, right? Then pleaseâ
Save me!
