Chapter 6Ā
Ā āDr. Robertā
Dorothy, who replaced Miranda as my maid, is such a kind girl.
She has brown hair and gentle brown eyes, and her soft, warm personality makes her adorable.
Apparently, she has several younger brothers and sisters, so sheās very good at taking care of children. Thanks to her, my daily life has become much more comfortable.
She even reads me picture books, so my speaking skills have improved a lot.
I still have a bit of a baby lisp, but now I can finally express my endless love for my big brother properly!
āMy lady, you seem to be in high spirits today.ā
Dorothy smiled at me through the mirror as she brushed my pink-gold hair.
āIām gonna pway wif nii-tama (big brother)!ā
āThat sounds like fun.ā
By now, everyone in the mansion knows how much I adore my brother.
Whenever heās around, Iām all smilesāthereās no way anyone could miss it.
Ahhā¦
I never knew that living with someone you adore could make life so wonderful.
I wake up in the morning, greet my brother in the dining room, then admire him as he studies.
After lunch, I observeānot stalkāhim while he practices swordsmanship.
Every day is pure bliss, a rosy dream!
Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with excitement that I nearly faint, but thanks to an excellent doctor and Moko (my stuffed animal companion, or maybe pet?), I manage to survive.
My attending physician, Dr. Robert, is apparently quite famous for his research on magical overload.
His own daughter died from magical overload, so heās devoted his life to developing a cure.
If only I could speak properly, I could teach him the formula for the antidote myself!
But the problem is⦠In the novel, the hero Abelās hometown was only ever described vaguely as a āremote village.ā
Right after Abel obtained the Holy Sword, that village was destroyed by monsters, so no one ever learned exactly where it was.
If I could just find out the name of that village, we could create the antidote long before it was discovered in the storyā
and maybe even save the villagers, including Abelās parents.
In the novel, Leticia dies from magical overload right before the antidote is found.
That means I have about nine years left before the time limit.
I must find the cure before then.
āThere, all done. You look lovely, my lady.ā
Dorothy tied a big ribbon on top of my head. I turned to the mirror and checked.
Yep. Not as cute as my brother, but stillāadorable child achieved!
My pink-gold hair and violet eyes look nothing like Father, or my brother whoās his spitting image.
But in Motherās portrait, she looks just like me. So someday, Iām sure Iāll grow up to be beautiful like her.
āDoro-chee, fank you!ā
Jumping down from the chair, I hurried toward my brotherās room.
āMy lady, Dr. Robert said you mustnāt run suddenly. Letās hold hands and walk together.ā
āO-tay.ā
Ah, right.
Iām not allowed to do anything that makes my heart race too much.
When Iām older, I might be able to exercise a little, though.
Wait a minute.
Dr. Robert⦠isnāt he the same as the school nurse from the novel?
The one who lost his daughter to magical overload and started teaching at the academy so he could continue his research freely?
In the story, the student Abel was also suffering from magical overload when he was young. After hearing about it, Dr. Robert thought there might be a cure somewhere and went to investigate Abelās hometown.
There, in the same cave where the Holy Sword was found, he discovered the Golden Lycoris.
Its pollen became the key ingredient for the antidote to magical overload.
The novel didnāt have an illustration of it, but in the anime, it appeared brieflyā
and come to think of it, if you aged Dr. Robert a bit, heād look exactly like that same school nurse!
Which means⦠if we can just get the Golden Lycoris pollen, we can make the antidote!
I have to find Abelās village, no matter what!
Hmm⦠The place where the Holy Sword rests isnāt particularly famous.
Even Abel didnāt know the cave existed until the sword called out to him.
Wait. If the Holy Sword has a will of its ownā¦
Then maybeājust maybeāit would answer if I called?
āHoly Sword, Holy Sword, where are you right now?ā
Just kidding, of course.
Thereās no way it would actually respond from somewhere so far awayā
ćDid you call for me?ć
ā¦Huh?
Who just spoke?!
