Chapter 54..
The Heat-Haze Princess’s Resolve
“Even so, I don’t think there’s any effective way to obtain proof that your mother-in-law and the others are involved beyond this plan. The perpetrator from the incident two years ago and the one from the attack a month ago are both dead, so there’s no decisive evidence left. It will be difficult to find new proof now. But if we act for future incidents, we might be able to gather evidence bit by bit as they happen.”
Christophe nodded with a face full of anguish.
“Indeed… that’s probably true. Still, I don’t want to put you in any more danger. If I were to lose you as well, I would—”
“Father. I want to clear my brother’s name. Even if it means putting my own life at risk.”
At the resolute, frost-bright tone of her words, everyone fell silent. Each person held onto an uncompromising feeling and fell into thought for a while.
It was Yoan who broke the silence.
“…All right. If Felicia wants that, I will make it happen. No matter what, I will protect Felicia.”
“Lord Yoan…”
Felicia turned to Yoan with an expression of relief and gratitude.
(As I thought, Lord Yoan always understands and tries to respect my wishes. He really is a comfort.)
“But under no circumstances do anything reckless. I won’t let you go somewhere my eyes can’t reach. That I will not concede.”
Yoan sealed the warning with a nod as he looked at her with eyes full of trust — he knew well that if left to her own devices Felicia would sacrifice herself.
“Of course. Thank you, Lord Yoan.”
Alexis and Christophe swallowed their complicated feelings and nodded as well.
“I swear I’ll do everything I can to protect Felicia.”
“I’ll keep a close watch on Yvette’s movements, too.”
Their resolve to achieve the goal hardened. Everyone’s feelings aligned and they turned their faces in the same direction.
“Then let’s work out the concrete plan.”
With Yoan’s words, the strategy meeting began.
