Chapter : 02
The Bachelor Meets a God
ââŠA god?â
âYeah, Iâm a god.â
Without flinching at my skeptical tone, the man who claimed to be the god of Earth puffed out his chest and spoke with confidence.
What he was saying was absurd and ridiculously suspicious, but on the surface, there was no gesture of deceit or intention to trick me.
âThatâs harsh. Thinking Iâm suspicious, huh?â
âCan you read my mind?â
âThis is a space I created. It wouldnât be an exaggeration to say thereâs nothing I canât do.â
The man calling himself a god snapped his fingers.
Suddenly, the blank white space around us began shifting, transforming into different scenes one after another.
A lush green forest, a desolate wasteland, the depths of the ocean, and finally the skyline of Tokyo. The scenery changed so quickly that it was dizzying, and then it returned to the original white space.
âSee?â
ââŠI suppose so.â
âAhaha, suddenly polite, arenât you?â
Whether this man was truly a god or not didnât matter; it was clear that he held the control here. Iâd better not be too rude.
âIf you are a god, why have I been brought here?â
âBecause you collapsed just moments ago and died at home.â
Hearing that from a god made me recall the situation from earlier.
I had half-expected it, but it seemed I had indeed died.
âIf only you had a partner, you wouldnât have ended up dying alone at home, undiscovered,â he said.
âThatâs none of your business,â I replied instinctively.
The godâs words were oddly sarcastic, and I couldnât help but speak plainly. I caught myself and hesitated, but the god smiled wryly and said, âYou can speak naturally.â
It felt strange to speak casually to a god, but polite conversation would take too long. I decided to indulge.
âSure, it was a dangerous situation back then, but if someone had been nearby to take me to a hospital, I might have survived. If Iâd been married, none of this would have happened.â
âI knew the risks of staying single. Even if it meant dying a lonely death, I have no regrets.â
The greatest risk of being single is oneâs own health.
Even if you have the will and ability to live alone, you cannot control your health.
If you fall ill or get injured, a single person suddenly becomes unable to move.
Even going to a hospital becomes a struggle, and if you collapse like I did, nobody notices.
But I knew all that. Living with someone I didnât love just for future security was absurd.
I could not tolerate having the rest of my life wasted just for the sake of one small insurance.
I preferred a short life filled with freedom and enjoyment rather than a long, stressful life with someone else.
In fact, even hearing from a god that I had died, I felt no regrets.
I died at thirty-five, far earlier than the average life expectancy, but I lived stress-free, exactly as I wanted.
I am satisfied with that outcome.
ââŠYouâre truly steadfast. People who end like this usually have at least some regrets,â he said.
Regret comes from having somewhere in your heart a desire to marry and live longer. The one who cannot analyze themselves rationally is at fault.
âBy the way, why was I summoned here?â
âAnother god took a great liking to you and asked me to bring you here.â
âAnother god?â
âThe god over there. Heâs called the Lone God, Hitorigami.â
When I looked in the direction the god pointed, there was a man standing alone in the white space. He had black hair and black eyes, his long bangs partially covering his face.
The lone god who liked me? He wore a hood and exuded a gloomy aura.
ââŠIsnât he far away?â
âYeah. Come over here,â said the Earth god.
But the lone god shook his head.
So even though he liked me enough to summon me, he didnât want to interact directly?
âThatâs typical. He always prefers being alone,â the Earth god muttered.
âCould it be that the Lone God loves solitude?â
âExactly. Heâs a god who loves loneliness above all. He seems to have liked you because you possess a firm and strong will for solitude.â
The Earth god explained, and the Lone God nodded slightly.
ââŠâŠâ
However, he only nodded and did not speak.
Shouldnât this be the part where the Lone God explains why he summoned me?
ââŠSo what does the Lone God want to do with you, Dokurakujo?â
When I asked, the Lone God called the Earth God over and whispered something in his ear.
Why not just speak normally when weâre this close?
âI see⊠It seems the Lone God wants to invite you to another world.â
âAnother world? Like the fantasy worlds in manga or anime?â
âExactly. The world managed by the Lone God is different from modern Japan. It has skills, magic, and fantastical creaturesâŠâ
The Earth God confirmed, and the Lone God nodded again.
It seemed the Earth God would continue as the mediator.
âNormally, when people are reincarnated, their personality and memories are reset. But in your case, they will remain intact as you are reborn in the Lone Godâs world.â
Ah, so this is the typical âreincarnation into another worldâ scenario. I had watched enough of those anime to understand.
âI see⊠What if I refuse to be reborn?â
âIn that case, your soul will turn to dust. You are already outside the cycle of reincarnation, so your existence will cease entirely.â
The Earth God said this casually, but it was terrifying.
Thereâs no changing the fact that I died. Thereâs no way I can return to modern Japan.
So it seems accepting rebirth in the Lone Godâs world is the only option.
âThe Lone God, not wanting to toy with you on a whim, will grant you some advantages so you can live comfortably in the other world.â
âLike the skills and magic you mentioned earlier?â
âYes.â
âCan I get any kind of power?â
âThere are limits to what can be granted, but the Lone God says heâll give you as much as possible.â
âI have some questions before receiving these powers. Can I take some time to ask them?â
âThatâs fine,â they both nodded.
