Episode 7 â âA New Homeâ
âWaaah!â
Eireâs eyes sparkled like stars as she looked around the amazing new place.
âEire, remember what we do when we visit someoneâs house?â
âHello! Eire came to visit! Thank you for inviting us!â
Eire gave a polite little curtsy to Harin. Michael nodded proudly, looking pleased.
âHow did this even happenâŠâ
They were now in Harinâs apartment â a high-end place in Hannam-dong, overlooking the Han River.
And the reason they were here was simple:
Michael had said one sentence.
âWe donât have a house.â
Whooshâ
In the middle of Seoul, white dust still blew where a big hole had been left in the ground.
Harin had originally wanted to send the father and daughter home safely, maybe even pay for a taxi since they looked like they didnât have bus fare.
But when she asked for their address, the answer was:
âWe donât have one.â
âDidnât you used to have one?â
âNope. Never did. Just⊠donât have one.â
Harin looked at little Eire, who was clutching a small blanket, and sighed.
Those innocent eyes that looked like they held all the worldâs jewels blinked up at her.
If Harin turned her back now, she could already see what would happen â the father and daughter would probably end up sleeping under a cardboard box near Seoul Station.
âNo way. My conscience canât allow that.â
And thatâs how Harin ended up bringing them into her home.

âHmm. Why is your house built so high? If that octopus monster from before hits it once, wonât it all collapse?â
Michael asked while looking around the spacious, clean apartment.
âThis building is made from a special mixed stone material. It can withstand strong attacks â it even has built-in mana shock absorption.â
Michael nodded, seeming to understand.
While the adults were talking, little Eire wrapped herself in her fatherâs golden cloak and spun in circles.
âHiya! Tiger Strike! Babara, it looks the same, right?â
âOh, thatâs my girl.â
âHehehe, Eireâs got five special moves now!â
Harin sighed quietly as she watched them.
She had thought about sending them to a hotel, but quickly realized she couldnât. Their sense of ânormalâ was just too off.
They had never even ridden an elevator before, and Michael had pulled out a sword at the cleaning robot in the lobby.
It really felt like they had come from another world.
âWhere are you two from? Your Korean is perfect, butâŠâ
Harin finally asked, unable to hold her curiosity.
âAsteria,â Michael answered.
Asteria? She had never heard of such a country.
Even back when she was young and could memorize every flag and national anthem, sheâd never heard of that place.
âAsteria? Thatâs a new one.â
âYouâve never heard of Asteria? You should study history more.â
Crunch.
The plastic cup in Harinâs hand crumpled a little, but she kept her polite smile. After all, there was a child watching.
âOh ho, I see. My bad. So, what did you do there?â
âMy dadâs a Holy Knight!â Eire shouted proudly.
âTo be exact, I was the Captain of the Holy Knights,â Michael added.
Harin stared at him blankly.
A Holy Knight Captain? That wasnât even a real job.
Sure, after the Gates appeared, some crazy hunters went around claiming to be âGodâs messengers,â but this man didnât seem delusional⊠just different.
âAnd Iâm a Saint!â Eire declared, jumping onto the sofa.
Harinâs expression darkened further.
âIs their family motto something like âLive your fantasyâ?â
She looked at Michael again.
Now that she thought about it, the power heâd used earlier wasnât like fire or wind. It had felt like light.
Could he really be a Holy Knight?
No⊠impossible. There was no such thing as divine power in a world without gods.
âMaybe itâs just a high-level hunter skill. Something only S-ranks can use.â
Still, she found it hard to believe Michael was truly S-rank.
But the breaking news said otherwise:
[Who is the mysterious hunter who defeated the A-rank Deep Sea Kraken in one minute?]
He had disappeared before the reporters arrived, so all the news headlines were filled with question marks.
âTo kill an A-rank monster that fast⊠heâs definitely above A-rank.â
Harin sighed and massaged her neck.
âNo point overthinking it. What matters now is I let them in â so theyâre my responsibility for now.â
âUm, my house isnât super fancy, but I do have a cozy guest room. You can stay there for a while, if you have nowhere else to go.â
âOkay,â Michael said flatly.
Harinâs eyebrow twitched.
âExcuse me?â
Michael yawned and smacked his lips.
Not even a thank you! Just pure audacity.
âAre all S-ranks this shameless?â
âDaddy! Youâre supposed to say, âI hope weâre not troubling you!â Like this!â
Michael turned his head slightly and repeated, tonelessly,
âI hope weâre not troubling you.â
It sounded like a robot reading from a script.
For a brief moment, Harin really considered kicking them out.
Then little Eire came running up, tugging on her sleeve.
âPrincess Harin, can Eire and Daddy stay here just for a little while?â
Harin felt her heart explode.
All her irritation vanished in an instant as she looked at the little girlâs innocent face.
She tapped Eireâs cheek softly.
âOf course you can. After allâŠâ
Her gaze moved to Michael â not quite friendly, but thankful nonetheless.
âYou saved my life.â
Even if it hadnât been on purpose, she owed him. If Michael hadnât shown up when he did, she mightâve been dead.
Michael nodded seriously.
âHmm. I did do something big, didnât I? Iâll gladly accept your hospitality.â
ââŠ.â
Harinâs polite smile froze. This guy⊠really didnât know the meaning of modesty.

That night, the father and daughter settled into the guest room.
âSaint, huh? âCutest girl whoâll save the worldâ? Thatâs what it said?â
âYup!â Eire replied, babbling as she told her dad everything that happened that day.
After listening quietly, Michael sighed.
âI guess Dal-yong was right. A personâs face really shows their nature. That bastardâcalling himself an angel when heâs the real demon.â
âHuh? Whatâs âface readingâ?â
âIt means people act the way they look.â
Eire didnât fully get it, but nodded anyway â because her dad suddenly looked serious.
âDaddy looks⊠sad.â
Michael didnât speak for a long time, just staring out the window, lost in thought.
Then Eire whispered,
âThey said I have to save the world. Does that mean Saints save the world?â
She was only four.
At that age, you still have to bend your thumb down to show your age on your fingers.
Saving the world sounded way too big.
âI can maybe save Daddy⊠but not the whole world.â
Her tiny lips drooped sadly.
âAnd why does the world even need saving? Is it sick?â
Eire stared up at the ceiling, deep in thought, but of course couldnât find an answer.
Then Michael pinched her cheek gently.
âDonât worry, Eire. If you ever have to save the world, Daddy will save you.â
Eireâs big eyes turned toward him â and then he kissed her forehead softly.
âSo stop thinking and go to sleep, my little girl. Tomorrow weâll eat strawberry cream bread.â
âStrawberry cream bread!â
Eire giggled, already forgetting all her worries.
To a four-year-old, strawberry bread was much more important than saving the world.
There was plenty of it in the kitchen â Harin had bought lots, saying cute Eire could eat a hundred if she wanted. (Michael said maybe not a hundred.)
âIf I sleep fast, tomorrow will come faster!â
Eire snuggled into her dadâs arms and closed her eyes.
A big, warm hand gently patted her back.
âThere are no bad people here. Daddyâs safe now. Everythingâs okay.â
And soon, she drifted off peacefully.
***
But that peace didnât last long.
âAhh!â
Eire jolted awake in the early morning, drenched in sweat.
âNo⊠please, noâŠâ
She reached out with trembling hands and grabbed her fatherâs.
Tears welled up in her big eyes.
âWhy? Heâs not here anymore⊠but whyâŠ?â
She curled up and cried quietly.
In her dream, once againâ
she saw her father die.
Killed by a man with hair shining like the sun.
