Chapter 18 Clearly, He Doesnât Care About Nan Xiao
Xie Chengyuâs tall figure loomed like a wall, blocking Nan Xiaoâs path. She froze instantly, unable to move.
Avoiding his face, she stared at the wallpaper beside him and asked, âTalk about what?â
She had a rough guessâlikely a warning not to provoke Xu Ruoxin again. But what came out of his mouth was:
âYou care a lot about me and Ruoxin, donât you?â
ââŠâŠâ
Under the lights, his skin looked pale and flawless, his features sharp and cold. Those eyes, fixed on her, seemed calm but carried a razor-like clarity, as if they could cut straight into her heart.
Nan Xiaoâs heart pounded wildly. Her palms, clenched into fists, had begun to sweat.
She must never let Xie Chengyu discover her feelings. If he knew, sheâd have no pride left at all. That would make her too pitiful.
So she forced herself into composure, answering evenly:
âOn paper, weâre still husband and wife. So when Xu Ruoxin called you âhusbandâ in front of everyone, I felt humiliatedâthatâs why I was angry. Nothing more.â
Is that really it?
Xie Chengyuâs brows faintly drew together, then smoothed just as quicklyâso fast he didnât even realize.
âOur matter will be over soon. When that time comes, weâll both be free. Just endure a little longer.â
He spoke coldly, then turned and left, without sparing her a single glance.
Nan Xiao pressed her hand to her aching chest. His protective attitude toward Xu Ruoxin was all too clear. She couldnât afford to keep indulging in illusions, or sheâd sink deeper and deeper⊠She ruthlessly crushed down the thoughts she shouldnât have.
Leaving the old residence, Xie Chengyu drove to a luxury complex in downtown Beicheng.
After parking in the underground lot, he rode the elevator upstairs and knocked lightly. The door opened quickly.
âChengyu, youâre here! Didnât I add your fingerprint? Why didnât you just come in?â Xu Ruoxin greeted him happily.
âNot used to it.â
Entering the living room, he glanced at her clinging to his arm. âAre you feeling better?â
âMhm, much better. I just overworked myself filming while pregnantâthatâs why I fainted. Iâll need more supplements these next few days.â
âMake a list of what you need. Iâll buy it for you.â
âHeehee, youâre the best.â
Xu Ruoxin led him to the sofa, then skipped into the kitchen to cook.
Xie Chengyu leaned back, exhaustion weighing on him. Fingers pressed to his forehead, he felt drowsyâbut in this unfamiliar environment, he couldnât fully drift off.
Half-asleep, a faint fragrance wafted into his nose, warm skin brushing his own. His eyes snapped openâto a blur of pale flesh. His pupils contracted sharply.
âChengyuâŠâ
Xu Ruoxin froze, startled heâd woken so fast. She bit her lip, then leaned in closer.
âDonât mess around.â He pushed against her shoulder, his gaze dark and heavy. âYouâre pregnant.â
She paused, then whispered with a hint of grievance, âI asked the doctorâyes, the first three months are off-limits. But there are other ways I can please you. Iâm willing to do anything for you.â
Her voice was soft, sweet, designed to hook any manâs heart. Xie Chengyuâs breathing faltered, but in his eyes flickered a flash of fleeting disgust.
He shoved her away, his tone like ice. âI donât need it.â
His aura was overwhelming as always. A mere lowering of his voice could chill anyone to the bone.
Goosebumps prickled across Xu Ruoxinâs skin. She watched, wide-eyed, as he stood and left without the slightest hesitationânot even a backward glance.
What was happening?
It wasnât just tonight. Even back when they were together years ago, he had never touched her. Though he provided for her generously, cared for her materially, she always felt he kept her at a distance.
And it wasnât because he couldnât.
On the contraryâsheâd tested before. He absolutely could. With his training and physique, he was undoubtedly capable.
But he simply refused to touch her. He seemed to actively resist intimacy, even marriage itself.
The other day at the hospital, she had invited him to move in together. He rejected her under the excuse of Nan Xiao. At the time, she thought it was just a pretext.
Xie Chengyu wasnât a kind man. He was ruthless, cold-blooded. For people he didnât care about, he could be utterly merciless. Otherwise, why would he have left Nan Xiao alone, ignored, for three years?
To test her suspicions, she had called him âhusbandâ in front of everyone today. Sure enoughâhe hadnât denied it.
Clearly, he didnât care about Nan Xiao at all!
