Chapter 3 Did You Take the Medicine
In the past three years, it wasnât that Nan Xiao hadnât tried with Xie Chengyu.
She painstakingly studied cooking, bringing food to his company every day, wanting him to eat a hot meal after work. But he never touched any of itâhe wouldnât even come out to see her.
She spent her hard-earned manuscript fees to buy clothes for him, one after another. But later, Zhou Wen gently reminded her that Xie Chengyu had never worn any of them. They were piled up in the corner, gathering dust.
These things left Nan Xiao deeply discouraged. She thought perhaps it was because he found her ugly.
Before the wedding, Xie Chengyu had seen her photo: a plain face marked with two ferocious scars. Even she felt disgusted looking at it, so she could completely understand his feelings.
So she thoughtâif she became prettier, she could go to him again.
Xie Chengyu himself was perfect in every aspect, and only a woman of equal standing could stand by his side. She could understand all that.
But what she never expected was that all her three years of effort would be in vainâbecause Xie Chengyu already had someone else.
âMiss Nan also here shopping?â
Xu Ruoxin withdrew her hand and said with a smile.
Nan Xiao was about to answer, but Lin Yan cut in:
âNot Miss Nan, sheâs still Mrs. Xie. Please show some respect.â
Nan Xiao had only signed the divorce agreement that very morning. It would take one month of the divorce cooling-off period before it became effective. So what Lin Yan said was correctâand Xu Ruoxinâs face darkened.
Xie Chengyu gave Nan Xiao a faint glance and said:
âCome here.â
Nan Xiao didnât know what he wanted to say, and she grew nervous as she followed him into the nearby corridor.
Xie Chengyu lowered his gaze to her, his voice ice-cold:
âControl your friend.â
Nan Xiao clenched her fists.
That was rather rude toward Lin Yan. But just now, Lin Yan really had kept provoking that woman. Was this because Xie Chengyu had seen his beloved woman being upset, and grew displeased?
She tightened her fist and said:
âI know. Just now, Lin Yan only misunderstood something. She didnât mean anything else, you donât have to worry.â
Finishing, Nan Xiao held herself steady and left. At this moment, she was instead glad she was wearing a maskâthis way, Xie Chengyu couldnât see her pale face.
In the parking lot, Lin Yan fumed:
âThat pair of dogs is too disgusting! I really want to kick them both!â
Nan Xiao gave a small smile, patting her shoulder, telling her not to be angry, though her own gaze grew dim.
âActually, Xie Chengyu hasnât done anything wrong.â she said bitterly. âHe just doesnât love me.â
Lin Yan understood these truths. If it was only that he didnât love Nan Xiao, then Nan Xiao walking away happily with tens of millions could be considered a good thing. Butâ
âThat incident a month ago, you still wonât tell him?â
Those words made Nan Xiaoâs face turn pale.
Outsiders thought she and Xie Chengyu had only met twice, but in truth, it had been three times.
A month ago, Xie Chengyu had been drugged. In a daze, he went to the old Xie family residence. Nan Xiao happened to be there, caring for Old Madam Xie. That night, she and Xie Chengyu ended up together.
The next morning, Nan Xiao rushed off to handle work, leaving early. After she finished, she had intended to tell him what had happened.
But then Old Madam Xie suddenly took a turn for the worse and passed away within two days. The entire Xie family was thrown into chaos.
By the time the funeral was over, Xie Chengyu had gone abroad for more than half a month. Just as he finally returned, she was handed a divorce agreement.
âEven if I told him, so what? He would only add another number to the divorce settlement.â Nan Xiao smiled bitterly.
Lin Yan sighed and hugged her.
âThen let it be. Hold on to the moneyâthatâs enough. From now on, Iâll have your back.â
âOh right, did youâŠâ
Lin Yan suddenly rememberedâafter that night, Old Madam Xie had passed quickly, the whole family in chaos. She didnât know if Nan Xiao had taken any medicine.
But just then, Nan Xiaoâs phone rang. Lin Yan closed her mouth, deciding to ask later. In the end, she forgot to mention it at all.
